The Brevard County Sheriff's Office said a referral will be sent to the state attorney's office for a possible misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

Is this really necessary? C'mon, the kid did something stupid and didn't hurt anyone, not even himself.

Why do I always GIS before reading the thread, WHY?

Bearing in mind I'm savvy enough *not* to GIS jorts, what the hell are jorts.

/jorts, what are they?

Around 1977 I was on a boat that had to be "rescued" by the coast guard when we got to the shore/beach of Stinson Beach I asked one of the squids standing with me (how do we get off?) He said oh you jump so I did. I remember the Ensign standing next to him screaming noooooooooooo and reaching for me as I leap over the side after I did a barrel roll I looked up to see the jr squid getting his ass chewed out my dad and uncle shaking their heads looking at me like I'm (yeah I was) a dumbass & another squid jumping over to make sure I wasn't hurt.

That was a very informative article

Law enforcement is a bully and a protection racket. It goes after the low-hanging fruit like this to keep from getting bored and to justify its existence.

Lemme get this straight. A guy took a bet, jumped off a boat, wasn't drunk, wasn't hurt ... and anyone gives a shiat?

I'd never heard it until now. I guess jean shorts are bad? I don't know.

By observation, it appears shorts that hang half-way off your ass and go down past mid-calf are the style. I don't even see how anyone can call those "shorts", much less have a desire to wear them.

/yeah, and get off my lawn.

I don't see a problem with this particular set of Jorts.

NSFW in a side-boob sort of way (new window)

Now this is why I love FARK, right here. I was unfamilliar with the contempt with which "Jorts" are held, and of their assiciation with Florida State.

Imagine what I will know tomorrow.

Plenty of us non-rednecks mock the rednecks' jorts. And yes, they are bad. They are also everywhere here in Gainesville.

And with that, I leave, because there's way too much Gainesville in this thread.

While there must be an association of some sorts with FSU, it's with UF that the ribbing reaches the proper cooking temperature.

So why was this even reported?

Yes, it is really necessary. It is the Brevard County Sheriff's Office after all, are the biggest bowl of dicks in the universe.

Oh, and why didn't anybody ever tell me that jean shorts were a fashion faux-pas? I'm 26 years old, and I've been wearing them for at least 16 years. First of all, I've never heard the term "jorts" until 2 minutes ago, and secondly, nobody ever made fun of my jean shorts.

What material are my shorts "supposed" to be made of?

Not that it'll change anything... my jean shorts are still in great condition. :-p

Agreed. I see no reason to charge him. Why, because it was kind of an outlandish thing to do? So what? Had he hopped out of his own fishing boat and swam to shore there'd be no issue. The article makes no mention of a big rescue effort. No charge necessary.

This thread is relevant to my interests.

No, not jorts, 15$ dares. Who's got some hot sauce?

I'm not a sailor but flinging yourself off a public business with employees trained to rescue people who fall off...well, it sounds like a clear cut case of teenager-asshole and depending on much chaos he caused, I hope he got charged.

/Not reading the article just to be a dick

Honestly its not even that stupid. The Casino Ships are small boats, and when you are in there by the Jetti it can't ever be more than a few hundred feet to shore.

This is Fark. Anything that is the least bit popular, or done/enjoyed by a significant number of people is unacceptable.

OK, I must claim total ignorance here. I live in Oregon and I will break out 'jorts' (jeez, is there anything that we won't try to make clever) in the summer. I really don't see the humor here. I mean they're hemmed shorts made of denim. I don't wear them hanging off of my ass with my boxer-briefs (brixers?) showing or anything. They don't look particularly ghetto or backwoods. Where's the joke?

/also wears cargo shorts
//cargo shorts actually 'look' funnier with 10 million oversized pockets

2009-04-30 12:17:43 PM
Point of clarificaton: Wearing them past your knees is stupid. Capris pants are stupid. Wear shorts or pants, but make up your mind.

2009-04-30 02:24:18 PM
Jean shorts, Khaki shorts, Madras shorts, basketball shorts, whatever is next.

Generally, I find that the people that criticize fashion the most are often have a poor sense of fashion history and don't realize what it 'in' now was 'out' 20 years ago.

2009-04-30 02:25:54 PM
Jack21221 Well, there *wasn't* anything wrong with wearing them for the first 6 years. And the next 6 years- well, college-aged guys aren't usually known for their sartorial splendor. But after that it's reasonable to say that a grown man should probably not dress the same way he did when he was 10.

(please note: the above comment only counts if you wear your jean shorts all the freaking time. Breaking them out for the occasional picnic/grill-out is probably fine.)
