Reality: 152 deaths (as reported by the mexian gov't, which is trying to downplay the severity) are likely caused by swine flu in mexico

WHO: We have only tested 7 of them, 7/7 are swine flu, so the death toll is 7. Maybe we will get around to testing some more later, but till then, don't worry, its only killed 7 people.

Its inane to claim that none of those 145 untested deaths are not swine flu just because they haven't tested them. And why are they still untested, some have been dead for almost a week.

namatad: DrRatchet: The kid was visiting Houston from Mexico City. So yes, from Mexico.

except that he died in the US
in UD medical care, claimed to be the best in the world
you dont think they tried to save him??

and the count is not how many mexicans died, but how many died in what country, but go back to being a troll

I still can't find out which hospital he was at, but the word floating around the Houston medical community is that the child who died had preexisting medical conditions that contributed to his death. Not getting any details on what they were though.

100 people die in the US everyday from the flu. Unless they do a culture on each one it is going to be hard to dispute that we need universal healthcare, which is what this is all about.

Oh yea, the other one hundred something died via bullets from NFA firearms bought at Texas gun shows.

Nor should you, the Hospitals still have HIPAA. Let the family grieve, then they can talk if they want.

The preexisting condition was not immune to swine flu.

/ seriously, I feel for the kid's parents. losing your child has to be an enternal hell for the parents

Well, it WAS a 2-year-old that died in Houston. Townshend might have known.

8 = 2 * 2 * 2 = 2^3

8 - 1 = 7
7 rhymes with 11.

9/11.

I'm not saying WHO is lying, only that the statements they are making are misleading. They only recognize labratory confirmed deaths. If a million people dropped dead in mexico city tomorow, the death toll would be 7 untill they run the tests.

How many non-labratory confirmed cases would it take for you to accept there is a higher death toll than the confirmed cases alone indicate?

Only one death outside Mexico has been linked very strongly to the swine flu... so yeah, 152 in Mexico + 1 Mexican child in a US hospital. (I don't think WHO has counted that one yet either)

No no, this is almost a pandemic, I saw their spokesman on TV saying so. They're in it strictly for the science and benefit for humanity and have no ulterior motives, so we can trust them.

More people a year die from mannequin related accidents. I assume most of the accidents are a result of attempting to fornicate with said mannequins. But if they didn't want it, they wouldn't be standing in the windows in their underwear, now would they?

Also, the media was trying to tell us the reason 150 deaths from swine flu was so much more serious than tens of thousands of deaths from the standard flu was because the swine flu was killing healthy individuals inbetween 20 and 50 whereas the regular flu only typically only kills the very young and very old or those made vulnerable by another condition.

I wonder what the ages of these seven actual deaths are.

This. For the WHO to say they have 26 confirmed cases in Mexico and 40 in the US tells me someone is not running every possible case through the lab.

TigerStar: Yesterday, in the USA, 120 died from the normal flu. Oh, noes!!

At one time there had only been a single death due to AIDS in the US.

In 1918 a version of the Swine Flu killed between 20 million and 100 million people. (new window)

Pandemics have occurred throughout history. It is only a matter of time before one happens again. The 1970 Swine Flu was not it. This one might not be it either. But it is not foolish to take it very seriously.

2009-04-29 01:06:06 PM
netweavr: I wonder if the WHO realizes they're going to cause more deaths via panic, at this rate, then the Mexican Flu will.

They probably don't have your crystal ball, to know in advance how many people Mexican Flu is going to kill.

It's the same subtype (H1N1) as the 1918 flu, just not yet as deadly. The year before the 1918 pandemic, there was an outbreak of a similar, not-so-deadly swine flu. It took it a year to make the evolutionary click that turned it into the devastating version.

So it's very reassuring to know that that's not going to happen this time. Thanks!

This.

"Yeny Gregorio Dávila, Mexico City:

I work as a resident doctor in one of the biggest hospitals in Mexico City and sadly, the situation is far from "under control". As a doctor, I realize that the media does not report the truth. Authorities distributed vaccines among all the medical personnel with no results, because two of my partners who worked in this hospital (interns) were killed by this new virus in less than six days even though they were vaccinated as all of us were. The official number of deaths is 20, nevertheless, the true number of victims are more than 200. I understand that we must avoid panic, but telling the truth it might be better now to prevent and avoid more deaths."
