Huh, a crooked cop. Who would have thought it?
2003-02-11 02:21:18 AM
Nice headline :-p
2003-02-11 04:49:16 AM
Would that make him a shuttle-cop?

2003-02-11 08:13:08 AM
Oh great, another new Fark cliche. Just what we needed.
2003-02-11 08:13:58 AM
Yeah, a book titled Lord, Why Have I Always Done Such Stupid Freakin' Shiat?.

/nelson muntz
2003-02-11 08:17:30 AM
Perhaps he was going to use it for a bookend.
2003-02-11 08:18:29 AM
Great...not only that, but a new Fark cliche that I don't want anything to do with...

2003-02-11 08:18:53 AM
I guess he did not hear about the amnesty program.
2003-02-11 08:19:17 AM
aaaah, "research"... a page straight out of the Pete Townshend Book of Defence.
2003-02-11 08:19:42 AM
Dumbass. If the research for a book excuse didn't work for a celebrity (who can do almost anything and get away with it), why would it work for the average Joe Sixpack?
2003-02-11 08:21:47 AM

It's "shuttlecock" and "badminton".
2003-02-11 08:21:54 AM
Can someone explain why he didnt die frm the dreaded vapors?
2003-02-11 08:22:13 AM

I'm thinking of writing a book about bank robberies. I'm off to do some research.

I'll let you know how it goes but i may be gone some time (5 to 10 yrs)

2003-02-11 08:22:57 AM
OK...lets put things in perspective. The Dell guy got busted for weed. For some reason cops persue this insane and needless law RELENTLESSLY AND VICIOUSLY, like it was poison that had been manufactured by some big alcohol. So if the Dell guy (as much as I hate him) gets anything for getting caught with some weed. I want this cop vcharged to the fullest of the law. Lets put things in perspective....smoking weed.......stealing a piece of a federal investigation of an air disaster after being warned that you would be punished if you did.
When a cop gets caught breaking the law, they should be publicly flogged and then locked in extreme solitary confinement for 2 months. I wouldn't do anything to hurt a cop, i'm not a terrorist, but man do I hate cops.
2003-02-11 08:25:05 AM
I submitted this after the Challenger explosion with a much funnier headline.
2003-02-11 08:25:07 AM
Slave2grind makes a good point. Make the punishments equal to the crime in a better perspective. Send this dumbass to jail for 2 years, fine him $100,000 and smack him around for stealing that. You would think someone would respect the lives of the people that died on the shuttle. Unless of course at car accidents he steals pieces....
2003-02-11 08:25:16 AM
Good question, Anti_Freak_Machine, in fact, I'm still not sure--if we find a piece of debri, we're
supposed to touch it? The CNNFOXMSNBCABCNBCBBS has been so vague about this....
2003-02-11 08:25:32 AM
nail him to a cross and throw shuttle tiles at him.....
2003-02-11 08:26:49 AM
I don't hate cops, maybe that makes me a minority on FARK. Hell, I even like some cops and have a few friends in the profession.

Now, this particular cop is a jackass. I wonder if that's a distinction many people will be concerned with; this particular cop as opposed to all cops?

Somehow I doubt it.
2003-02-11 08:27:47 AM

2003-02-11 08:29:38 AM
A cop comprimising himself by stealing evidence...NEVER!!!What a tool, I bet he took the shuttle piece and was attempting to enter orbit an hour later!!!
2003-02-11 08:30:37 AM
I hate to break this to you, but when people commit a crime, the cops are meant to 'persue' them. But you are about 15 so I wouldn't expect you to not rant and rave about your beloved "Mary Jane", without which the whole world would explode and the Evil Zombie Horse Nazi Cops would have to go elsewhere to carry on commiting their evil crime of "stopping drug dealers getting richer by exploiting idiots".

Dumb cop anyway.
2003-02-11 08:33:09 AM
Most cops are like the "homo basher" mentality. They will take part in the crime, unbeknownst to anyone else, then get all pissed at themsleves and those they've associated themselves with in the the straight man who will pay for homosexual sex, then beats the hell out of whoever he had it with. Most cops do that too. Don't ask me how I know.
2003-02-11 08:33:26 AM
Lobsterboy, Slave2grind It seems that the level of the crime is fitting. Dell kid will probably get a fine. As for the shuttle thieves: Those arrested faced up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
2003-02-11 08:34:19 AM

I submitted the article before the explosion with the exact same headline.
2003-02-11 08:35:19 AM
Should've read "punishment for the level of crime is fitting"... (need to wake up still)
2003-02-11 08:35:45 AM
The_marq: Most people are content to verbally bash the police from afar. They'd rather see the police force as some corrupt fiend out to get them. I guess that makes it easier to stomach getting a ticket ("Figures, all those cops suck.").
2003-02-11 08:38:48 AM
Again, if they can accuse him of stealing Federal property, can't he countersue NASA for littering?
2003-02-11 08:41:21 AM
After all, you don't get a ticket if you're not speeding. And 68 in a 65, *is* speeding, right?
2003-02-11 08:42:22 AM
In Texas, if a cop gives you a ticket for going 68 in a 65 you're allowed to punch him in the nose.
2003-02-11 08:42:42 AM
he could try but i think NASA's lawyers
will be more than bosshog could handle
2003-02-11 08:42:53 AM
The poison vapors thing was more to prevent people from stealing stuff. The levels of chemicals contamination would be pretty damn low (if any at all), but it is a better deterrent than saying, "you will go to jail if you steal something, we (the authorita) find out about it, and then catch you with it and/or are able to present a case in court".

Had the shuttle crashed on lift off, the vapors would have posed more of a threat. Most of the dangerous stuff had already burned/dispersed before the debris hit the ground.
2003-02-11 08:43:51 AM
LawTalkingGuy, was this you???? lol.
2003-02-11 08:44:04 AM
Watch as the cop gets probation.

Happens all the time, cops never do time.

Spouses of cops never do time. Even the ones that kill a family of four while talking on their phone in their SUV and drive over four people stuck by the side of the road, then lie about being on the phone despite phone records that say different.

People like you are what is so wrong with the laws in this country today. You think that if someone puts it on paper that its wrong, then by god it must be. If everyone was like you, then we wouldn't have the United States as a country because we would all still be under British rule across the ocean...because I'm pretty sure that I remember it being illegal for our forefathers to defy the crown. But they did. Our country was founded on the defiance of laws and taxes that the citizens did not agree with and so they did not comply. But a tool like you, who somehow puts themself in the position of calling me an "idiot". People like you are sad little people who have their opinions and thats all. You probably go to church and all that happy crappy and are told how to live and breathe and what movies to watch and what music to listen to. And to come from such a sheltered and close minded state, and call someone like myself and idiot. I still can't get over that, you sad little person.
2003-02-11 08:44:52 AM
this 'NASA littering' thing is lame.

Are you charged with littering if you get into an accident and bits of headlight glass goes everywhere?
2003-02-11 08:45:06 AM
NoYouSuck I can't discuss that.
2003-02-11 08:46:33 AM
Like anyone would believe that a cop could write a book. Especially a cop from Texas.
2003-02-11 08:50:47 AM
Hagan showed a piece of what he said was shuttle debris to a colleague after returning home on Feb. 2, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. He claimed he was given permission to keep the items, it said.

Am I reading this wrong, or are they referring to his colleague as "it"?

[image from too old to be available]
"What we're dealin with here, is a total disrespect for the law."
2003-02-11 08:55:43 AM
"I wouldn't do anything to hurt a cop, i'm not a terrorist"

It's sad that in this day and age, you actually have to specify this or suffer the wrath of the thought police.
2003-02-11 08:56:20 AM
Slave2grind Those of us who don't break the law, despite not agreeing with it, tend to have less cause to hate the US legal system. Those with strong enough opinions will vote in their local elections. Those with even stronger ones will protest in some fasion (not just picketing, going to town meetings and such). There are many options for legal opposition to the law that fall short of breaking it. Only the lazy thumb their noses at the law and violate them then wax passionate about how bad the laws are in this country but never get off their asses to even vote let alone do anything else to advance their ideas/beliefs.
2003-02-11 09:02:16 AM
Some people never learn.
2003-02-11 09:06:17 AM
Why are people always shocked when cops do something stupid?
2003-02-11 09:11:46 AM
He prolly tagged it as going 456 mph over the speed limit and took it away as evidence.
2003-02-11 09:14:11 AM
I'll bet that cop has American flags on his personal SUV, & probably one on his house.
2003-02-11 09:14:34 AM
Yeah. I hate cops. I wish there were none. We could return to the days when anyone stronger, better armed or with more friends could steal my stuff, kill me or rape my children. That would be really great. Wooooooot for anarchy. While we're at it can we get rid of medical care as well?
2003-02-11 09:17:19 AM
I submitted this but with a funnier headline
2003-02-11 09:22:59 AM
He's going to Federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.
