Will he be banninated?

Tune in next time

2009-04-22 06:08:55 PM
he forgot which cable news channel he's on

2009-04-22 06:10:23 PM
I can't stand FOXNews, but Shep Smith was the only national news journalist who did not have his head completely up his ass down here during Katrina and will always be okay in my book.

/Actually, Anderson Cooper did a good job on a lot of the follow-up coverage, too, so he's cool, too. The rest of them were damned worthless.

2009-04-22 06:11:36 PM
That, my friends, is well said. And on Fox...whodathunk?

2009-04-22 06:16:27 PM
Head, meet sand.

2009-04-22 06:18:19 PM
First of all, it's cable.

Second, we're America. Having to watch FOX News is torture in of itself.

2009-04-22 06:21:18 PM
Shepherd Smith is one of the few on FNC who strikes me as an actual journalist. Brit Hume used to, years ago, but he started blurring the line between reporting and pundit-izing, like most others on that channel, and he lost me. And I agree re: Katrina; I remember actually choosing to watch Smith over the other networks during all that.

2009-04-22 06:21:29 PM
TOR-CHA!

I like watching him just catching up.

I agree 100% with everything you say here.

I fully expect him to be fired if this happened on-air.

2009-04-22 06:27:50 PM
Well, at least someone over there gets it. Shep is the least douchey of the guys who are not named Steve Douchebag.

Unfortunately, we DID torture. Nothing we can do or say will ever change that. We DID torture.

2009-04-22 06:29:59 PM
They won't fire Shep over this. They'll just trot it out to pretend they're "fair and balanced."

Shep's been their fig leaf for objective news coverage for a while. And this is on Fox... an on-air crazy outburst that gets lots of Youtube hits is probably contractually obligated.

Action Replay Nick: I fully expect him to be fired if this happened on-air.

Don't count on it. Shep is Fox's golden boy. They'll pay his fine & never look back.

2009-04-22 06:40:01 PM
Shep is starting to lose it. He's suffered those idiots long enough. The money isn't worth it anymore.

2009-04-22 06:40:10 PM
Give'em hell Smith!!!

Glad to see someone on the network still has a soul.

2009-04-22 06:41:35 PM
BobtheFascist: They'll pay his fine & never look back.

I think the fine applies when the word f*cking is used as a noun or verb rather than an adjective, so:

"This is AMERICA. I like f*cking people who don't TORTURE" = fine
"This is AMERICA. Skull f*cking detainees is TORTURE" = fine
"This is AMERICA. We do NOT f*cking TORTURE." = no fine

/I could be wrong

2009-04-22 06:42:04 PM
I can't watch the video right now, but did he say this meaning "we haven't tortured" or "we shouldn't torture"?

Actually, an interesting tidbit. Since this is cable, he can't be fined. I know this because a few years ago I wrote a faux-outrage letter to the FCC about O'Reilly, because his spiffy little graphic in a porn segment had a giant, uncensored cock going into a gaping asshole.

They wrote me back letting me know they appreciate my concern and will consult with Fox on the matter, but no fine or penalty can be imposed because cable television censorship is, for the most part, self-regulated.

I got the impression that it was that "we shouldn't torture."

DamnYankees: I can't watch the video right now, but did he say this meaning "we haven't tortured" or "we shouldn't torture"?

Yeah, the full quote is "We are America! I don't give a rat's ass if it helped! We do not f**king torture!" He was definitely saying that we shouldn't be torturing, not that it never happened.

2009-04-22 06:45:28 PM
We are America. We'd like to think that we don't torture, but we pretty much have in major battle actions, though not as much as others but maybe just a little.

/Now that is more fair and balanced.

Well, right before he says that line he says "I don't give a RATS ASS if it helps." I would say he doesn't like torture and feels we shouldn't.

Shep's a hell of a newsman. It's a shame he didn't watch his tongue there, because if they disappeared Hill over her little gaffe, he doesn't stand a chance on this.

2009-04-22 06:50:34 PM
Good night every body.

Watch the longer clip for context. If he gets canned from Fox it won't be for the language. I actuakky have a newfound respect for the gayest man on TV news. WHo the hell does his makeup anyway? Tammy Faye Baker?

2009-04-22 06:56:08 PM
Someone's about to lose his job for stepping away from the party line. Thinking for yourself is a big no-no over at Fox News.

2009-04-22 06:57:08 PM
cretinbob: the gayest man on TV news

Clearly, you have never seen Will Thomas of Washington, DC's Fox 5 news.

Interesting.

I wish I would've seen that. Would've been some good humor.

2009-04-22 07:14:45 PM
Fox News Channel has come to terms with Shepard Smith over his release and wish him the best in all future endeavors.

/oh, you know it

2009-04-22 07:16:30 PM
This is not the first time that Smith has said something thoroughly rational. I expect him to be on another network within a year.

2009-04-22 07:18:11 PM
I wonder what his new show on CNN will be called?

/If they fire him you know it will happen.

2009-04-22 07:20:52 PM
His mocking of Glenn Beck was epic.

2009-04-22 07:28:14 PM
you know, he is pretty quick witted, he could join Stewart and Colbert on Comedy Central. I mean hell, where else can you actually deal with issues and people these days?

2009-04-22 07:30:23 PM
I always did like that southern boy.

2009-04-22 07:45:49 PM
But wait.... didn't he say it wouldn't happen again after he got caught thinking out loud about getting a blow job from J Lo^?

The best part about that clip is the crew laughing off camera.

WhyteRaven74: you know, he is pretty quick witted, he could join Stewart and Colbert on Comedy Central. I mean hell, where else can you actually deal with issues and people these days?

He still comes of as a douche, but i guess that is why he is allowed on FOX.

As for the torture comment, what got me was the guy next to him who "didn't want to say if torture was right or wrong".

How is this national debate?

2009-04-22 07:57:40 PM
Shep ain't going anywhere. He has good ratings.

juniperwasting: How is this national debate?

There are some very dumb people around these days.

2009-04-22 08:47:46 PM
What was the context of that?

Was it Fox WARGGHARBL or was he really anti-torture.

2009-04-22 08:48:10 PM
She's not my girlfriend! She's my farking friend! Leave her alone, man.

How is gay marriage, something that only affects married gay people, a national debate?

Retards. That's how.

EL_FABREZ: What was the context of that?

Didn't see the second video there. Rough interrogation? So they think it'd be OK yo do something like that to get a confession from a criminal?

================================

The memos were released. They quite clearly stipulated we tortured a whole shiat load of a lot.

Stop defending this Fox News facts-denying asshole
