For civilian use only? So they're giving citizens nukes now?
2003-02-09 09:00:41 PM
...but insisted its nuclear program was solely for civilian use.

anyone else interpret that as "for use on civilians"???
2003-02-09 09:01:02 PM

Of Course nobday cares that this country has Nukes and has had a past series of aggression.
2003-02-09 09:04:15 PM
Just in case anyone asks, Bush will never be able to politically sell a war against Iran to the American people unless some Iranian terrorists start blowing American shiat up again.

I would do this before i go to war!
2003-02-09 09:05:20 PM
Well gee, Kilgore40, that was totally unexpected from someone who has the electronic intifadah linked in their bio.
2003-02-09 09:06:24 PM
Why is it that I can't look at a picture of their PM without thinking that he looks like Steven Spielberg?
2003-02-09 09:06:59 PM

2003-02-09 09:07:17 PM
Wrong Bbcrackmonkey Bush has sold the *concept* of war. With that he can go anywhere.

IMHO rant ahead

First, I wish they'd read the article prior to posting, so as to avoid repeating paragraphs and parts of paragraphs.

Second, I still don't understand why America is allowed to do whatever it wants with nuclear material, but everyone else in the world has to declare every little thing. I'm an American, but until we start giving other countries credit that they'll act like civilized people, we're going to be (a) paying for inspectors in every country in the world, (b) stifilng third world countries' development by keeping them from using a cheap, plentiful fuel, and (c) inspiring more anti-American sentiment when we hold the world to one standard and ourselves to another.

End IMHO rant

Which Clancy novel is the UIR in?

I for one would like to welcome our new terrorist overlords.

Is Farkistan a nuclear power yet? Secret or announced?

"So what we are going to do is replace the plutonium fuel rods with walkie talkies so they are harmless"

Twiddlin, Iran might just acquire nuclear weapons, but I trust them more with nukes than I do Iraq. Iran is pretty notorious for their support of terrorism, but their regime is also coming under increasing pressure from its populace to instill democratic reforms. Pretty soon their revolutionary council will have to give up power.

I have some high hopes for Iran. Let's hope I'm not let down.
2003-02-09 09:11:26 PM
Iran? They're our ally. Iraq's the evil one, ya know.
2003-02-09 09:12:14 PM
"Second, I still don't understand why America is allowed to do whatever it wants with nuclear material but everyone else in the world has to declare every little thing"

If, given these countries past actions, you can't see the difference nothing anyone on here says will help you figure it out.
2003-02-09 09:12:16 PM
Any country that is named after the persian word for "Aryan" has to be a-ok!

2003-02-09 09:12:45 PM
Holy Schmooley! This doth not bode well....
2003-02-09 09:12:53 PM
RobbieFal, nobody who speaks Persian can be an evil man!
2003-02-09 09:13:09 PM
Well, I see it as a pretty safe move. Do you really think we could start one more unagressed war in that region? That would just be ridiculous.
2003-02-09 09:13:12 PM
Um, Iran is inviting in inspectors to make sure that th use of their uranium is legit.

They plan to use it for domestic purposes (like POWER PLANTS, people) and allow it to be moniterred.

Though I don't condoan a war in Iraq, this is a different situation than what is currently going on with Saddam.

For those of you who don't know, Washingtons entire contingency for this 'war' is that Saddam LIES about what he has.

This might just be a wise 'fessing up' move, since the US has suddenly decided to become global 'police'.

Man oh man, was George Washington ever right about not getting involved in foreign policy if we wanted peace.
2003-02-09 09:13:46 PM
No no no!

This means "The America, The" in Persian

2003-02-09 09:14:14 PM
Revolution is ripe in Iran, and I think Bush realizes that

Stop all those Ayatolla's from consolidating their power!!!
2003-02-09 09:14:42 PM
Cyrus the Great was right all along...

2003-02-09 09:15:09 PM
Rdr: Executive Orders is the Clancy book you're thinking of. Now if only we could get the Irani leader to kill Sadam like in EO and get all this bussiness behind us.
2003-02-09 09:15:37 PM
"RobbieFal, nobody who speaks Persian can be an evil man!"

Who's in favor of establish a "good/evil" scale for world countries.

Example.. Iraq

1940s-1970s: evil
1978-1990: good
1990-present: evil

or Cuba

1898-1959: good
1959-present: evil

or France

1900-1938: good
1938-1940: evil
1940-1944: evil (Vichy France)
1940-1976: good (Free France/France)
1976-present: evil
2003-02-09 09:15:49 PM
I was just thinking that Iran wasn't evil enough to be in the axis of evil. I guess I was wrong.
2003-02-09 09:16:20 PM
[image from too old to be available]
So what we're going to do is replace the line "You are not going as a terrorist!" to "You must go as a martyr!"
2003-02-09 09:16:42 PM
Llarken, well of course they say they want it for domestic purposes. For some reason nations that have a vested interest in obtaining nuclear weapons always want nuclear power plants... for domestic purposes.

Glad to hear about the inspectors thing, but really they won't be terribly effective if the Iranians seriously want to circumvent them. The question is whether Iran in the future can be trusted with nuclear weapons. We now have a VERY powerful incentive for making sure Iran becomes a democracy in the future, and a very powerful deterrant from attacking it with military force.
2003-02-09 09:17:02 PM
semi-unrelated question: if i were to create/patent a device that i called "nucular", would i be able to get money out of bush for saying it all the time?
2003-02-09 09:17:09 PM
If Iran goes evil, this should give the Iron Sheik one last run with the WWE title
