There is no rational reason to allow people to possess semiautomatic assault weapons. At least not without a special permit and license.

This.

The only guy I know with an assault rifle is an ex-military type with quite the armory in his house. He's licensed and fully trained with each weapon.

Though - I can't find a real reason for wanting an M4 carbine.

So you collectors, target shooters, and home defense proponents are irrational fools

More than likely, yeah.

2009-04-20 09:47:45 AM
In nearly all cases, a shotgun (for the home defense crowd) would be far more effective than a semi-automatic.

Collectors - there are some dangerous fish I would die to own as a fish hobbyist, but I don't because they're too dangerous.

Target shooters - why the heck wouldn't you use something more suited for, I don't know, target shooting? Semi = kill everything in a general area. How about some finesse?

2009-04-20 09:48:38 AM
Yes they are irrational fools, but their right to be is guaranteed.

There is no need for people to own one of these weapons, but people buy tons of things they have no need for. I for instance own three Snuggies.

That's what he thinks.

I was watching a documentary recently where the Commies invaded America and the only reason they didn't turn the whole of America into a larger version of Berkeley was that a group of warriors who called themselves Wolverines fought off the invaders using the kind of firepower this guy wants to ban. And if you don't think the USSR isn't planning to do it again if they get half a chance, you're living in moonbat land.

It's sad when a nation doesn't even remember its own history.

Done and done.

Personally, I have my weapons as part of my World War 2 living history display.

I have a handgun permit and C&R license. I get a background check every year and think every firearm transaction SHOULD be made with a background check. Close the "gun show" loopholes.

"There's no rational reason we should allow people to possess semiautomatic assault weapons," Rendell said.

I think Rendell should head up to Perry country and tell all those people to turn in their guns. Heck, it's only a 30 minute drive from Harrisburg...ok, with fast eddie driving, 15 minutes.

Go on Ed. take your case directly to the people. wander into redneck central and tell 'em all the whosis and whatfors! Be a man, stick to your principals and tell it up on the mountain!

They are a kick to fire. You (and the first and second posters in this thread) should give it a try sometime. Y'all are more than welcome to come up and we'll make some noise! Give me enough lead time and I might be able to get you some time with a fully auto Thompson.

BrynnMacFlynn: Semi = kill everything in a general area. How about some finesse?

Semi = One trigger pull, one shot.

Auto = Hit everything in a general area.

There is a "protect the right to bear arms" rally in the PA State Capitol building tomorrow. I wonder if the governor's comments are going to to come up in any of the speakers' remarks?

The sad part is, for every responsible gun owner at this rally there will be at least five guys who masturbate to "Red Dawn." Last year some of them held up a sign calling for the lynching of a Hispanic lawmaker who proposed a so-called "Assault Weapon" ban.

I'm a gun owner and an NRA member, incidentally.

I love talking to hunters with semi-autos.

We had one nutter who brought an AR15 to camp with 30 round clips. Needless to say, we all stayed back that day listening to him blast through all his ammo in an hour hunting "deer". This guy was great. Tactical grips, tactical sights, a tactical vest to hold his clips in, and kneepads. We asked him if he was planning on holding off a Russian invasion.

Awww crap - D_I_A and I agree on something.

2009-04-20 09:56:06 AM
Wait, you mean after all this time, there are still people that think "semi-auto" is a machine gun? And that "assault rifle" also means "machine gun"?

Are these the same people who never rotate their tires because the tires rotate while they drive?

2009-04-20 09:56:32 AM
Dear Everyone,

I'm sorry my governor's a corrupt farkwit. I'm a Democrat and I hate his guts.

Sincerely,
A Pennsylvanian

Hey the new super-deer can be pretty dangerous. Don't doubt they'll jump you and tear your throat out if you turn your back on them.

Only if you can define "assault weapon" first.

Serious collectors often take care to ensure the security of their collection. Nothing pisses someone off like having a prized collection piece stolen.

The people who I am leery about owning automatic weapons are the ones who want it to defend their home. If you want to 'protect' you and yours, save your neighbours and buy a goddamn shotgun. Oh, and buy a decent door and deadbolt.

The problem isn't the hicks with their religion and guns, it's organized crime gun runners. About a year ago, they busted two guys a few blocks from me in Philadelphia for selling AK 47s out of the crate.

what about semi-auto big game rifles that fire a round that is much more powerful than a so-called "assault weapon's" round and which will also cause instant death because it is a soft-nosed bullet that has a similar organ-destroying effect to a hollow point "dum-dum" round?

If it will scare someone shopping for a new minivan, it's an assault weapon.

//Really though, just because some people find something distasteful, unreasonable, irrational, or unsettling doesn't mean it should be banned.

EvilEgg: Hey the new super-deer can be pretty dangerous. Don't doubt they'll jump you and tear your throat out if you turn your back on them.

Seriously. I don't get the big deal over missing a shot. Most of the fun in hunting is stalking the game and setting up your shot. If you miss, the animal deserves to get get away. You've got to earn that meat and trophy.

Now that would make life a lot more entertaining.

To be fair, a Navigator is a farking awesome ride. So smooth and comfortable it's retarded. Too bad it goes through gas like 1980s Robin Williams and blow.

If Rendell is as successful with gun control as he has been with handling our local economy, then I wouldn't worry too much.

no one ever discusses the threat to cops. like the guy with the ak who killed 3 of them the other day. the neo nazi skinhead who thought Obama was out to get his guns?

Now where would he get an idea like that?

BrynnMacFlynn: In nearly all cases, a shotgun (for the home defense crowd) would be far more effective than a semi-automatic.

WRONG.

Shotguns are high recoil weapons with low magazine capacities and require more time for followup shots. They are also incredibly short ranged weapons. Unsuitable for a large portion of the population.

Slugs overpenitrate to a horrific degree and buckshot makes precision shot placement at extended ranges impossible.

If I'm in a SHTF situation, like the LA riots, any hurricane in the last 20 years, etc. I want something with a little more range where I can place my shots more precicely as not to put others in danger.

It's up to gun grabber to justify taking a right away. "because it scares me", and "because I say so" don't cut it. If it does, then I'm in favor of revoking your 1st amendment rights because such stupidity scares me.

If you really want Rendell to back off on gun control, just tell Comcast or Verizon that you'll cancel your account because you'll have to pay to register your guns.

They'll reign him in pretty quick.

The vast majority of shootings happen in under 30 feet of distance, iirc.

Crosshair: Slugs overpenitrate to a horrific degree and buckshot makes precision shot placement at extended ranges impossible.

Buckshot is good, because it won't penetrate very far into other houses and the spread helps you compensate for buck fever.

Crosshair: If I'm in a SHTF situation, like the LA riots, any hurricane in the last 20 years, etc. I want something with a little more range where I can place my shots more precicely as not to put others in danger.

The reason you can't own and operate a minigun in the suburbs is the same reason you can't shout "Fire!" in a crowded theatre without cause. It presents too much of a risk to the public. Yes, you have your rights, but other people have theirs. If you want to get your guns grabbed, watch how fast it happens after some Rambo wannabe empties a 30 round clip at an "intruder" and kills a small child in a nearby house.
