The landlords should just install webcams on all their property.

Don't these landlords know that what is on the Internet is private information? It's only for me and my friends and no one else should be looking at it or making judgements based on it, because they didn't have a right to look at it. They should have asked me and my BFFs before they even went on the Internet and they didn't and they looked at stuff that wasn't theirs to look at, so it's a total invasion of privacy and stuff.

i admit that i haven't been paying much attention to facebook lately, but how are landlords looking at their tenants' facebook pictures without their permission?

thomps: i admit that i haven't been paying much attention to facebook lately, but how are landlords looking at their tenants' facebook pictures without their permission?

They're not. You can't see shiat on facebook without permission any more. The tenants gave them permission either by adding them as friends, or being stupid and allowing global access to their profiles.

This is so spookily accurate, 40below, I'm going to have to ask you for proof that you're not farking from a cell phone where you just took naked pictures of yourself to send after algebra class.

Facebook is like myspace with all the stupid removed. As you might expect, there isn't much of anything there.

This. I just set up a facebook account to see what all I was missing (not much). The default privacy setting is friends only.

Unless you set your privacy settings correctly, they can still see the pictures if they are in your network.

Hilarity ensued on my block when the landlord happened by and noticed the tenants were parking their crotchrockets on the porch of the house and had damaged it.

College student / Army tenants don't really grasp the idea that the house isn't there for them to destroy.

2009-04-13 01:52:45 PM
I'm torn.

On the one hand, the tenants are clearly mildly retarded.

On the other, what's so wrong with checking the place out when they leave, and keeping the deposit if it's still beat to shiat? This is a system that's worked for years and years.

If they clean it up satisfactorily, why the hell do you care what they do to the place?

If you willingly surrender your privacy then why complain about not having any.....?

Sorry, but once it's on the Web, privacy is out the window. If it's that private, don't post it. Goes for MySpace/YouTube, too.

If your friend friends someone, they CAN get to your page. Whether you want 'em to or not. Whether yiou knowem or not. If not your page, they can at least get to pics if their friend is tagged in them.

Simple solution- don't post it if you dan't want it out there.

This is why I would never give my landlord my real name.

I always found it hilarious in college when they made you fill out like 20 pages of forms. I always filled them out neatly, so at a glance they look complete. However a closer look shows Hugh Gass lives on 1 Fattarse Avenue.

Ugh. My boss just sent me a friend requeston Facebook. Do not know what to do - can't really say no, can I, but really really don't want to cross the streams of work and personal. Sigh. I feel as though she's put me in an untenable situtation. How can an adult be so lacking in social graces as to not understand the position she's put me in?

This is way easier than the old method of driving by the rental property. I bet this is even quicker than just asking one of your friends that lives near by if the tenants are throwing parties. They're really just taking all the fun out of it.

As soon as the tenants - both in their early 20s - found out they had been discovered, they fled leaving thousands of pounds worth of damage

Sounds like it was a real struggle to "evict" them...

LMAO!
Ok, so I'm not the only retard out there. I forgot to set a couple of entries on my blog to private when I was ranting about the awful things I'd have liked to do to my last landwhoreds- like stealing their car and driving it into the river. They used it against me to keep my deposit. The truly farked up thing is that no matter what I had said when I was venting, THEY were the psychos.

I actually hired a professional housekeeper to go over the place when I was done, we even moved the appliances out and cleaned behind them. I also hired Servepro, the company who specializes in cleaning places that have burned or flooded to clean my carpet- their work was guaranteed. I was even gracious enough to do touch up paint, even though I wasn't required to by law. The landwhored refused a final walk through, knowing that it would keep me from catching anything she might have thought I missed.

She was an old pro at screwing people out of their deposits. I was an honest tenant who normally paid my rent on time or early. She and her humpty-dumpty husband were GREAT at skirting just inside of legal. They made sure I had no proof of their actions, like when the husband, who out-weighs me by at least 100 pounds shoulder checked me behind a police officer's back. They stole electricity from my apartment when I wasn't home- actually leaving the circuit breakers on, because it was my word against theirs. It was a total nightmare.

I decided to just give up. I cost them as many potential tenants as I could and then just got away from the area. I know its not much, but I hope what comes around goes around and they get what they deserve. If I'd have kept my blog private, I might have sued them and won (maybe- its a small town and they have a lot of powerful friends) I'll just say I paid $650 for my stupidity.

/I think there should be a website where you can enter your landlord's name to see if there are any complaints about them before you rent. Is there?
