While I agree with you in principle, I suspect the 40 volunteers who spent 18 months building the Lego Jesus probably did it during their free time, and that time probably wasn't taken away from any charitable volunteering they also might have done. They probably only worked on it for a little while each day, if that. I'm not a Christian, but I wouldn't begrudge them having a little fun making the thing. Now, if money had been spent on it that could have gone to the needy, yeah, I don't think that would have been right.
