AlwaysRightBoy: Here's a question for you caturday fans:

I have a 18 year old cat that has a cat problem (well he shiats everywhere but the shiatter) and I say he needs to go the glue farm but my wife says I'm inhumane. I will have to replace $10,000 worth of carpet because of this (can not afford). I will tell you that I have spent over 3 grand on this cat (vet costs after the fact) and love the cat but I have said his time has come to my wife but she will not let go.
/the vet says more medicine.....small wonder
// I would like some input? Am I unreasonable.

Is the litter box in a place that is hard to get to for your cat??? You might try putting a few more litter boxes around the house so your cat has easier access. Make sure they are big enough so that your cat has plenty of room. If they are covered, then get the extra big ones so the hole is big enough for your cat to get through. Older cats get arthritis, so it may be more difficult for your cat to get to or use the litter box than you think. And I'm assuming you clean the litter box out at least once a day. Older cats can get more picky about the smell of their litter box. You might try a different type of litter as well. If you are currently using sand, then go to sawdust, or vice-versa.

But ya, when an animal's behavior suddenly changes it usually means something is wrong. I just had to put down a cat that was 20 years old. One day he started walking funny. It didn't get better after a few weeks. It was probably a stroke. It was affecting his ability to get around the house. I just knew it was time to let him go. Hopefully you can convince your wife that this is best for the cat if you truly think you are at that point.

Good luck.

I thank all of you for your input. I'm really sorry for busting up your caturday (which I love), but my wife will not let go. I guess I will keep cleaning it up, until he goes his way.
I've had five other cats (buried on our property) that have gone in better condition.

kerewo: When I came home from work yesterday morning I found these guys in the dog igloo by the deck. Well, actually only momma, Claire, and the cream one and the dark tabby were there. When I got up that afternoon, I saw she'd had the grey one.

Today there are still only 3 babies. Last night mommy got dry padded bedding, a bowl with dry food and milk, and a heat lamp in "her" igloo. I don't know if she'll keep the babies there or move them.

Those pictures are adorable, but please do me a favor, either move her and the kittens indoor where you can be sure that they will be safe or contact your closest animal shelter and have them take the cats. Yes, mom cats are good at taking care of kittens, but they should be safe indoors, not outside.

It's not the litter boxes (2), he just goes everywhere. He sleeps on the side of the bed of my wife. I had to wake her up the other night because he just shiated right next to her face.
/And she still says I'm inhumane.

swarms909: Oh, I love Lolcats. Don't get me wrong. I love them, and that's why it bugs me that people miss the whole point: they're meant to make people laugh out loud. I'd say about 5% of new Lolcats are at least mildly entertaining. The rest are just "hey, look! i can post a picture on the internet!" I write this because I think people should post responsibly and not saturate the internet with crap. There isn't much space left, and soon, we will only have enough room for porn and spam. Basically, I'm calling for the true fans of Lolcats to challenge their creative wit. To strive for truly great works of Lolcat.

So late to this thread...

bessyglass: pic of cat too fat for box

I've never been able to figure out why cats do this. Anyone have any theories? I can see snuggling into some small comfy little space but cramming yourself into a box so that you're spilling out of the sides doesn't seem comfortable at all.

An example of my old cat:

My husband won't let me bring them in, even though we have a whole unfinished addition Claire could have to herself. Hopefully she will move them to a safer place in a few days. She left the igloo for a while today, so maybe she was out scouting for a place.

You just let the hubster know that if he doesn't shape up, it's sleeping on the couch and sucking on tater tots for him. Bring them in and let him know later.

Check around with the neighbors, she may be someone's kitty who ran off to give birth. You can put a collar on her with a message in it to call you, in case she goes home.

We had this problem with Maoskis, it started about a year before we had to put him down. That's not why we had to put him down, though. We got another litter box, much shorter than the usual box, and it worked like magic. Not sure if, after a lifetime of sharing it with his brother, he got tired of sharing a litter box or if it was arthritis. He still loved to pee on the bathroom rug though. Now that he's gone we can have bathroom rugs...would rather have my cat back.
Hang in there!

I believe the leading theory on this is that boxes (and sinks) are like depressions in the floor of the desert or plains: convenient places for the cats to lurk, waiting for their prey to wander into striking distance.

usually anyway. the only two birds she ever brought in i ended up throwing out because after it died she lost interest and just ate her food instead

We've got a rule here: "What happens Outside, stays Outside."
That goes for birds, lizards, mice...and the dead rabbit they dragged in so as to have their lapin tartare feast on the livingroom floor.
I took it and put it out on the porch...they could eat it there just as well and it's easier to clean up the aftermath.
If they bring one of their 'toys' inside, I'm gonna take it away and dispose of it it appropriately.
Nothing like finding the remains a few days later when it's well on its way to decomposition...

Same here. I learned to never walk around the house without my glasses. Found more than one critter head the hard way.
