"I go, 'Yogi, what the fark are you doing here?" The Yankee great, Chamberlain recalled, replied, "You know what? It's too cold for my old ass to be here."

That's friggin hilarious.

/doesn't really sound like an insult to Yogi though

Um, in order for Yogi Berra to be insulted, he first has to figure out what you're saying. An insurmountable obstacle, in most cases.

2009-04-08 09:31:23 AM
You know, if people weren't misguided enough to need athletes as role models, and if the media didn't sensationalize sports to the point they have, this may not be much of a problem...

Can we please keep in mind that the alarming thing is that he could have killed people behind the wheel?

Screw the DUI, every time he strikes out a batter this season, is he still going to react like it's:

1) The first strikout he ever got?
2) The greatest strikeout in the history of baseball?

If so, I'm looking forward to lots of mound charging &/or Jorge Posada getting beaned because his pitcher is a moron.

You forgot what comes after the third out in the 8th inning:

3) The best hold in the history of baseball?

Say, have you met Jason Papelbon yet?

Oh, and to use a phrase from another player New York loves and everyone else hates, enjoy the Pavano sloppy seconds.

At least when Papelbon does it, it's because he got the save, and they won the game.

But yeah, he does look like a jackass. They can't all be Mariano Rivera (no snark).

Wow - he said that New Yorkers aren't courteous if you hold a door open for them, but people in Nebraska are more courteous. We should stick him on a stake and burn his perceptive ass.

Slow news day? He's a kid. I think his dad annoys me more than he does, and all his dad does is sit there and eat.

Joba only reacts like that when it's a big strikeout, not EVERY strikeout.

One of the reasons Yankee fans love Joba so much is because of that fire he shows. New York fans value personality as much as they love stats.

Well, that and Harlan.

Agree on the passion, disagree that he does it only on "important" K's...he shows up the batter almost as much as Eckersley did with his signature "shooting the gun" move.

Still think because it's the American League, Posada's going to pay the price sooner than later.

...and do you think Jorge would just sit there and take it? Posada is a glass box of emotions, he would charge the mound.

There's a reason the Red Sox pitchers throw at Jeter and don't throw at Posada. It's because they know Jeter won't do anything, but Posada is the Yankees' enforcer.

Yeah, it's got absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Jeter hangs out over the plate.

I agree, but he's also the one who's supposed to slap some sense into Jorba, when needed. I predict good times if Kerry Wood is on the mound** for the Tribe & decides to send a messsage.

**& not on the DL, I know...

He calmed down with the theatrics after the "outrage" last year after he pumped his fists when getting a strikeout. Now he just collapses to the ground like a wet rag and points to Jesus Christ in an effort to thank Him for his undeniably super-human skills. I heard that's acceptable.

No, it doesn't. And I don't see how Joba is insulting New Yorkers when he's just stating a truth. If New Yorkers find what he said insulting about their driving habits and lack of overall courtesy...well, then maybe they need to change their habits.

2009-04-08 11:03:32 AM

Professional athletes make up what...one in a million drunk drivers on the road ona daily basis? Yeah...this isn't "much of a problem" already. They just get put on TV when they do it. They are not getting them any more than any other segment of the population I would venture to guess.

I personally disagree. I drive in Lincoln and Omaha all the time, not to mention I-80 between them. All you have to do is turn your blinker on and you'll get let in almost all of the time.

Maybe I'm used to other places. I find Omaha drivers to be nicer than Lincoln drivers. Lincoln drivers on 10th Street (where there are like 6 lanes) are little biatches. I'm used to areas where people will let you cross like 12 lanes of traffic. I've seen more than one person get pissed because I let someone in, and I've tried the blinker thing. Lincoln has some REALLY shiatty drivers.
