turns out he was too curious

Curious George The Suicide Bomber.
2001-09-05 12:37:51 AM
This is one of the most misleading headlines I've seen.
2001-09-05 01:39:44 AM
Yeah, no kidding Karpage. Just pick and choose any words out of the real headline, and coke it up a bit. Jeez. Playing a little loose aren't we?
2001-09-05 01:40:14 AM
Yeah, Jews for Jesus are about as Jewish as a honey baked ham on Passover
2001-09-05 02:20:32 AM
I think that should say Jews for Jesus. BIG DIFFERENCE. A Jew for Jesus is basically just a Christian.
2001-09-05 02:28:49 AM
Seeing as Jews for Jesus is primarily supported financially by the church, it should say Curious George sues Jesus. That would make an interesting headline...
2001-09-05 04:36:46 AM
Yep, Jews for Jesus, and Messianic Jews are Christians. Most Jews I know refer to them as "Christy Jews."

I believe the actual organization "Jews for Jesus" is funded by the Southern Baptists

I saw these pricks walking around Manhattan. They even look like Christians.
2001-09-05 09:35:09 AM
Indeed, Jews For Jesus are not Jews. They are not a Jewish organization in the least. They are dedicated to converting Jews away from Judaism, by claiming that you can be Jewish *and* believe that Jesus was the messiah at the same time. These are two fundamentally opposing principles. If you believe that Jesus was the messiah, you are not Jewish, plain and simple, you are Christian. Jews believe that the messiah has not arrived yet.

This headline should be changed to reflect that they are suing a different religious organization than anything sponsored by any actual Jewish organization.

I was actually handed one of these pamphlets in Union Square by a member of Jews for Jesus (who, despite PsychickSara's vaguely anti-Semitic remark above, don't "look like" anything more specific than your average New Yorker). At the time I couldn't believe the organization had gotten permission to use the Curious George character...

Djaj, I've always wondered about the seeming incongruity behind Jews for Jesus. Thanks for shedding some light on the topic, although it still has me wondering how they justify their opposing beliefs.

If the gay-rights community used him for flyers, would they call him bi-curious George?
2001-09-05 10:13:05 AM
Mungo: it depends. Some gay people think that people who proclaim themselves bisexual are merely cowards who don't have the guts to come all the way over into the homosexual camp : )

Somebody please explain:

Q: What is a Jewish dilemma?

A: Free ham.

Q - Texas rascist redneck dilemma?

A-Two James Byrd Jr'S and only one pick-up truck .

Q-Who's an A$$HOLE!

Why don't you go back to your Nazi kegger.
2001-09-05 10:37:25 AM
Mrstickerman: well, the "Jewish dilemma" joke you told could easily be construed as being anti-Semitic (although I also have Jewish friends that would think it was funny). As for the rest, I think Chest must've mistakenly attributed the second joke to you as well, and posted his "joke" as a retort to what he thought was a tirade of racist jokes.

Funny how the man in the yellow hat made no comment. I thought for sure he would.
2001-09-05 12:05:11 PM
I was trying to look for that cartoon where the man in the yellow hat goes to a gay bar. Anybody remember it?
2001-09-05 12:17:24 PM
Mrstickerman: Are you talking about Bicurious George?

You know, for as much apathy as I feel about MADtv right now, I really liked their Claymation short "Furious George".
This sort of has nothing to do with the thread, but that hasn't stopped me before.

religion is a crutch for the weak-minded... and a tool of oppression for those willing to wield it.
