I would donate my pasta noodle to healthy Italian Women.

Sometimes, the pasta, it wants to be alone.

It's a token amount just to show some support. Italy is a first world country and does not particularly need the money to deal with the earthquake.

patrick767: Italy is a first world country

I live in Italy and I disagree with this statement. They say they are, but the evidence would tend to suggest otherwise.

/don't get me wrong, I love Italy and I love Italians. But life here is... chaotic.
//that said, I think Italy can pay for their own repairs. This is more than enough considering the current state of the US economy.

Americans are charitable. This doesn't mean it has to come from the government.

Even if they do need serious assistance, the other nations in Western Europe are in a better position to help due to geography.

The O man should just print another trillion and throw it at them. What's another $1,000,000,000,000 anyway?

most of the aid is going to come from NGO's anyways... there isn't alot of work for the US government to actually do on this one... it's just a gesture of good will, if Italy asked for anything specific, help airlifting/evacuating people, or anything like that, we'd be happy to get some guys/gals out of aviano to lend a hand.

Funny, we have pledged to give $900 million to help rebuild Gaza, after they attacked Israel which led to the last incursion. Good job there, Barack Hussein Obama.

italy was turning down money, saying they'd pay for everything themselves, the last time i heard (which was this morning, admittedly).

Regardless, $50,000 is an offer they can't refuse.

The $50k is NOT our sum total of all the aid we will give.

The media loves to take our initial offering of aid and run with it as if it that was all we were giving.

They did this same thing for the 2004 tsunami. Took the first bit of aid we offered, then crowed to the world how the USA was being so Jewish. It wasn't true. They never realized that millions more in aid was already in the pipeline.

The same will happen this time. We will give them more money.

/We will also provide personel and equipment and military airlift capabilities if we're asked for them. Screw the media for selling us short.

Couldn't have said it any better myself,

(except for Obama, who has donated less than 1% of his income to charity, and Biden who donated less than .5% of his salary to charity, I guess they think if they give enough of my money away they can keep theirs.

Guess I'm just a forgotten man

/and to you haters, who are gonna say I'm just a butthurt Rep., I don't care what party you are from, if you want to give out other people's money, you had damn well better do it of your own accord. I just find it so odd that so many politicians from both parties are the least personally charitable of anyone, but more than happy to give my money away.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the mafia didn't make sizeable donations of their own money.

That's how a reputable crime organization would work.

...and how much money did Italy send San Francisco after the `89 Loma Prieta quake?

2009-04-06 07:29:53 PM
if you read the article, obama offered material support, which was turned down.

if we've learned anything about disaster relief, both here and in the u.s., money doesn't mean a damn thing if it can't be utilized.

2009-04-06 07:29:56 PM
The 50K for Italian quake relief is the amount immediately available from US Chiefs of Mission to release on their own authority.

More will probably be given once it goes through the proper channels.

By proper channels I mean ripping the money out of your wallet by way of your sphincter.

Besides...who should we support...a democracy, or a terrorist culture that thinks suicide bombings are okay?

You have to be kidding me. We have disaster teams in California ready to go on less than 24 hours notice, equiped with the Very Best in detection equipment and techniques for just this kind of disaster.

Italy should let them in.

Haoie: What do you hate more: Italy or France?

Well, let's see:

When I was in Italy, the people were nice and hospitable. When I was in France and politely asked someone if they spoke English, the response I received was: "Yes, but not to you."

So, I guess I'll go with those farking French.

LOL.

They're from Nimes.

Back in college, I was working on a political campaign, and one of the volunteers asked if I had any French ancestry.

When I told her yes, I asked how she guessed that.

"People in the South of France have tan skin like you do."

Considering that I'm less than 20% French, that's an amazing observation on her part.
