The problem with Punk is that not everyone was sold on him before he won MITB. He won the title in a heelish way (cashing in MITB after Batista killed Edge). He won the title without earning it in WWE fans eyes. The WWE does that, they gave Punk and Hardy the belts and booked them to look bad to shut the fans up.

Edge is a better champ than both. As is Orton. Punk isn't even sniffing their level yet.

Can't blame Punk for not being on their level when Vince refuses to book him correctly. All I'm saying is that Punk's ready whenever Vince gets a farking clue or, much more likely, some top star flunks a Wellness test again.

He does, I don't disagree. He made Benoit, Rey, Punk, and Hardy champs out of spite and booked them to look ridiculous. Jeff Hardy had a hilariously bad run. "My pyro! My face!"

Yeah - Rey was a lucky fluke, Punk was a HUGELY lucky fluke, Hardy was booked like a goof...at least Benoit was booked a LITTLE bit with the Bret Hart "not the biggest, not the strongest, but the best wrestler" push, but there was definitely a ticking clock feeling to the whole reign, you know? After WrestleMania XX and then making Shawn tap to the Sharpshooter in Canada at that year's Backlash, it just FELT like there was a "okay, how much longer to SummerSlam and the Orton push?" feeling to it. Benoit as World champion, if I recall, was wrestling in the middle of the card and had zero main event feuds with the title beyond Backlash.
