dj_bigbird: Somewhere at home, I have a great video that was made just before New Years Eve, 1999, it's a mockumentary about some white supremacists that are going to start riots in NYC. It's an amazing bit of filmmaking. Watch this thread tonite (after 8pm or so PDT) and I'll have a link to it.

video. It's an old (1999!) Real video, small screen size, but well worth the watch.

An autopsy would settle this pretty much immediately. Well, except for the tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists that will think the coroner is lying to cover for the cops.

Most Anarchists that make the news are government funded provocateurs paid to cause a rabble in front of the cameras, so that police have an excuse to get all S.W.A.T-Y on the otherwise peaceful protesters.

Theaetetus: Seen that video from Canada at the protest with the three guys who showed up in masks, holding rocks, and wearing the exact same brand of boots as the riot squad? And then after the leader of the protest outs them, they casually walk through the riot police's line and are peaceably handcuffed and escorted away, all without ever taking their masks off?

I haven't. I'll have to take a look. Even if true though, I doubt it's the norm.

pd771: Bored Horde: Wait, people are siding with the riot cops? What the fark is wrong with you people?

Rioters in general are worse than riot cops.

Yup. They go for the purpose of causing damage to other people's property and try to interfere with the people who are trying to SOLVE the problems they're whining about.

i'm all for freedom of assembly and speech. Rioting is NOT a right, at least in the US.

pd771: Bored Horde: Wait, of course you haven't. You have no idea what you're talking about. In a protest of 5000 people you'll have maybe, maybe 50 who are actually spoiling for a good anarchist riot. Far more often what happens is the cops put someone in the crowd to throw the first rock, to get the tear gas thrown in, and then nature takes its course.

I assume you have evidence when you make these kind of claims. Otherwise, you just sound like a moron.

/been in a riot where most people blamed the cops
//saw the idiots who started the trouble
///most definately not cops

The use of agent provocateur is not exactly obscure at this point.
COINTELPRO for early examples.

tombotia: Anyways, this is what you get for protesting your government. Honestly. What did you expect?

THIS!

It is like some kid trying to pick a fight with a very big, very strong bully, and then bursting into tears when they get kicked in the balls.

What did they expect would happen?

The best part was some 'protestor' complaining that it was just like the 'last time' the police treated a bunch of protesters in London roughly.

Get a job.

Rapmaster2000: SwallowTheKnife: Can someone tell me what they're protesting?

Do they want the worlds money all pooled up and re-distributed equally to all nations? ...So it can only cause further corruption and more issues in the third world countries than this whole idea was set up to solve?

Or are they just dirty stinkin' reds?

Or are they just bored and like thinking they're standing for something.

/Probably the last one.

Cool outfits?

Personally, I would go with more of a Road Warrior theme.

My rule would be to shoot the guys with bandanas around thier faces. You would probably only have to shoot one or two, and the rest would run. G20 party protesters are probably not very dedicated.

Sorry, I don't buy this for a second.

If a small group of morons want to try and protest a huge, international gathering like the G-20, expect to get beaten on. The fact that some of them started to riot makes most police responses completely legitimate.

I don't care if the average tax paying fool who is being fleeced by the government has a different opinion, because, well your opinion really doens't mean squat, as evidenced by the government doing whatever the hell they want.

And the police / riot control can do what they want too. Who is going to stop them or hold them accountable? I honestly don't think they touched this guy.

Another example of angry, low intelligence people banding together and then lying when they realized that their attempt at, whatever the hell it was, did nothing, yet again.

Bored Horde: Grass Hopper: This. The Quebec Surete got caught doing this not long ago. Poor police officer in combat fatigues and bandanna claimed some protestor "gave" him a rock and "ordered" him to throw it.

Amusing sideline - he got caught because he was wearing his police issue boots with his disguise. They're not making them any smarter, are they...

They can't hide their size. Anarchists are always skinny, wiry types. Cops are always big and burly.

He was too. There was a great video of this tiny 50-odd year old gent (organiser) ordering this guy to drop the rock he was carrying. Then the police rushed in and "arrested" him. It was at this point it was noticed they were all wearing the same boots.

After the investigation, the Surete admitted he was a cop, but came up with the story that he was holding the rock because some anarchist gave it to him...

And I assume you have resounding evidence about police inciting the crowd so that they can start handing out a beat down? A little food for thought. Why would the police incite a riot when they are outnumbered 50 to 100 protesters to 1 cop? An angry mob can over run a riot police force if they all focus on doing it. Look at the 1992 LA riots over Rodney King or the Poll Tax riots in London. I think you're a bit out of line with your facts. Furthermore, anytime the cops have to confront a protesting crowd and have to use force, the cops get hurt too.

If you're going to post resounding evidence, try somewhere other than prisonplanet.com . The other guys at least got me to look because they had linked to actual news sites.

Even though some of the articles posted on prisonplanet and like sites are sometimes BS, that does not mean that EVERYTHING they post is unreliable. The article I linked to had the most detailed information that I could find after a quick search. If you believe that perhaps the source is questionable, you are free to do your own research. Since in this case Prisonplanet stated the same info that is available on any other site, it served its purpose as evidence.

Outnumbered? Not likely. The police have battons, body armour, pepper spray, horses and powers of arrest. They can easily take on the few thousand protesters there, especially as a hundred or so have the ability or inclination to put up much of a fight. This wasn't the poll tax riot, people are far too apathetic these days and the police know that they can get away with pretty much anything.

Of course, it wasn't just the anarchists at Bank getting the shiat kicked out of them. The cops also decided to break up the climate change protest up the road (hippies in tents) with a charge in full riot gear. Maybe they were scared of being overwhelmed by flower power.

Anarchists are complete idiots. When my stepdaughter started to go off about how cool anarchy would be I tried to educate her on it (since she was a teenager, she ignored me). I explained how under anarchy she, as a cute teenage girl, would end up being someone's biatch. She would be used and passed around, then tossed to the side when she was worn out. I tried to show her both historical and modern examples of anarchy. Didn't help. Anarchy is cool.

Teenagers are idiots. Looks like a lot of college students still think and act like teenagers.

Actually, the rioters were the ones who kept him from getting the timely help he needed in order to survive. Look, I have no problem with people speaking their mind. But when protests become excuses for people to act self important, at the cost of private property and, most importantly, people's lives, then those "protesters" can DIAF for all I care.

I thought it was the G8. Or maybe I'm just 18 and remembering the good ol' days of elitism. So in like 3 years we went from 8 to 20? Hrm... Sounds to me like we need to bomb some people back to the stone age. Keep the club small.

Bored Horde: Wait, people are siding with the riot cops? What the fark is wrong with you people?

It's not a matter of siding with the riot cops, it's a matter of evidence. No-one there has any incentive to tell the truth if they were to blame, so each side just points the finger at the other.

In the broader scenario, I think the police are at least partly culpable for the violence, they held people in a police cordon for up to six hours, not allowing any to leave when the peaceful protest was done. I understand that they didn't want an uncontrolled mob swarming the streets of London, but what the hell were people supposed to do for that amount of time without supplies of food and water? It was inevitably going to lead to frayed tempers and was very poor judgement.

2009-04-06 10:20:32 PM
fatimcgee: I don't know...if you're hanging out in an active protest site, dying from being struck by a police baton seems perfectly natural to me.

So if a riot springs up between your work and home and you get caught in it trying to walk home you have no problem with the police pummeling you to death and covering it up? Me neither.

Bored Horde: Gyrfalcon: The latter, and I'll add, at least half aren't even standing for anything, they just want some violence to start so they've got an excuse to throw bricks at the riot squads, break windows, set things on fire and loot. I'd bet even money that over 50% don't even know what "G20" means or why the world leaders are meeting.

Have you ever been to these protests? The cops start more shiat then the protestors. If you notice a big, muscular dude with army boots on, get the fark away from him. Make a hole. He's going to throw something at the cops and give them an excuse to charge the crowd and earn their pay.

Yes. I've been in my share of riots dumbf*ck that's how I know.

And also, I never said who was STARTING the violence, just who was participating. YOU were the one who turned this, as you do just about everything else, into a I-hate-cops thread.

We already know, so why do you have to keep pushing your same tired agenda? You hate cops. Now switch over to some other rant.

Knee jerk, right wing freaks all over fark. People have a right to protest, and when so many liberties are being taken against the population. Greedy capitalists, support and arms for israel, murder in Iraq and Afghanistan and the abuse of our own soldiers, human rights abuses by America, Russia and china. An un-elected PM. Corruption and embezzlement in government. People have genuine anger, and the police are always heavy handed.
