The fire provided a little warmth in their time of need. Hell, some would say this fire was the best thing that ever happened to them

Not often a fire raises property value.

Wow, that headline is pure, concentrated FARK, in its most essential nature. Well done.

2009-03-31 09:27:47 AM
Funny headline, but I'm sad for the people. Most of them would have lost everything once before, I can't imagine how it'd feel to have it stripped from you again.

/Debbie Downer is finished.

It's all fun and games until tough guy gets here. This is why we can't have nice things.

This does make you stop and wonder if the fire was a "warning" to that other tent city that Sacramento is trying to close... The proverbial dead horse in the bed?

Maybe I'm just paranoid. After all, it was only a donkey's head I woke up next to...

Well, to be honest, how long will it take to find some mad dog,a shopping cart, and old cans?

Oh wait, I forgot the refrigerator box.

I don`t think it would be as devastating as a family losing everything they own. But this would be getting kicked while you`re down.
Maybe someone had one picture of their kids who disowned them, the one item they saw hope in, and now it`s gone.

"We've" --> "We have". There's nothing wrong with the sentence.

I'll leave it to others to mock you mercilessly. This is Fark; I'm sure there will be plenty of takers.

I think people understand that we've=we have, but generally that term would be followed by got.... when speaking American that is.

I saw a story about this on some news show CBS's Sunday Morning perhaps? and the city fathers seemed none too pleased to have it there, so that's the first thing I thought.

Frankly tho, were I ever in that position, I would NOT want to live in a large encampment like that. I'd go find someplace by myself.

Sounds like these people got an upgrade, with all the Red Crossy goodness. Who's to say they didn't just hide their stuff somewhere else and burn up some old tents ?

It was an awkward sentence to read. In most circumstances there is an official/correct way to do something and then there is the way that most everyone will actually use. Aren't you supposed to write with your target audience in mind?

I think Ponzholio should get a pass on this.

Aw, subby was being VERY compassionate. You know the old saying...

"Build a man a fire and he's warm for a night.
"Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life."

This incident illustrates the importance of timing. First erect the 20-foot chain link fence topped with razor wire around the camp...then set the fire.

/burning, but in hell, I'm sure

Great headline. I'm still chuckling. And really, it sounds like the only casualties were the fleas and lice.

TimeWaste: Funny headline, but I'm sad for the people. Most of them would have lost everything once before, I can't imagine how it'd feel to have it stripped from you again.

I feel the same way.

Although I must admit that I believe within about a month, each of them would have lost everything again anyway, with or without a fire. I'm not saying this because they are inherently bad people or irresponsible or anything, just that it's extremely difficult for one to hold on to one's possessions in such an insecure environment.

You can give a homeless person a coat or a blanket one day and the next week they will have lost it or had it stolen or they will have sold it [insert "they're all drunks and druggies" stereotype here]. That doesn't mean it's wasteful to give them a coat or blanket, because at least they got to enjoy it for a little bit -- and someone else got to enjoy it later.

If millions of Mexicans can support their ever-expanding families with day labor, how am I supposed to feel sympathy for the homeless?

Every day I drive past hundreds of hard working day laborers in the Home Depot parking lot, only to be confronted by homeless people one block over asking for free money. "GOD BLESS"

I hope you chipped in and supported those Christian homeless with your hard-earned dollars and not those worthless Mexicans who are trying to earn their money.
