Wait...that's illegal! He shouldn't have been able to do that. Isn't it illegal? For a felon to be able to concealed carry? Why, that's against the law. How could it happen?!?

BUT BUT BUT felons aren't allowed to own guns. We all know it is unpossible for somebody to do something we have a law against.

Chicago Police officials said the incident is under investigation.

And the result of the investigation (shakes magic 8 ball) some civilian jail employee farked up NOT the Chicago PD.

Exactly. Clearly this is a case of society having failed this poor convicted felon, who was just starting to think about turning his life around. Even just arresting him shows how we're oppressing him - how we, sadly, have become THE MAN. I am ashamed that we put this poor man through this anguish and pain. The arresting officers probably didn't even ask him how HE felt about the situation.

That or they made up the whole gun thing - like you said, it's illegal for a felon to own or touch a gun or ammunition, so this thing is clearly all a lie. Because if there's one person you can trust to obey a gun law, it's a convicted felon.

The story includes a number of paradoxial claims. As a convicted felon is not legally allowed to posses a firearm, it is impossible for him to have been in possession of one. Additionally, the incident occurred in the city of Chicago, where handguns are banned. I cannot understand how a convicted felon, already legally prohibited from possessing firearms, could obtain a handgun in a city where obtaining handguns is illegal even for citizens who have committed no crimes. Finally, the convicted felon was carrying the firearm in a fashion such that it was concealed, yet Illinois state law offers no provision even for non-felon citizens to carry concealed deadly weapons.

While it is unclear how this incident could have occurred, given that the reported event involved no less than three entirely illegal actions, the solution is clear for those such as the Brady Center: impose further restrictions to deny citizens who have violated no laws access to their Constitutionally protected rights.

WRONG. The police officer is the first person to search the arrested person. If they miss anything, short of something up their body cavity it they'll be disciplined as well.

That whole chain of custody thing is pretty important.

Wow. How the fark do you miss a pistol when you're processing someone? I mean, seriously. Are they these cops really in that much of a hurry?

I'm pretty sure that the video below is used in almost every training regimen for police officers in the country. It's used as a reminder to to thoroughly search prisoners.

warning: this video shows a real suicide and is only included due to its pertinence to the topic at hand. not safe for work or anything

So he went in front of a judge with a loaded gun and didn't shoot him? I thought guns were supposed to drive people into murderous rampages.

You REALLY believe that? Stay tuned, we'll see who THE COPS who investigate THE COPS find at fault.

If only there were some laws against handguns in places like Chicago.

No, these are Chicago cops. What'll happen is some civilian will get arrested for sneaking the weapon into the jail. The civilian will be exonerated, take home millions, and Daley will call a press conference promising "reform."

Whatever company made the gun should be using this as advertising of how concealable their product is!

Depends. Cops ignoring a mistake that puts the public at risk or abuses the public? I can see that happening.

But cops ignoring a mistake that puts their own lives at risk? They tend to frown on that a little more. A cop might be able to tolerate another cop abusing the public, but he's not going to tolerate something that might get himself killed.
