Would me saying that if these people really sincerely don't see anything wrong with taking their multimillion dollar bonuses while they're company is so far in the whole that the light at the end of the tunnel is a dot, then putting a bullet in their head would be a mercy, be bad? I wouldn't pull the trigger myself, I don't want anyone to think that I'd threaten them. I mean I'm not a violent person by nature. But I'd shake the hand of the person that did.

Just one thing, Matt Taibbi ROCKS....
I have been reading his stuff from Rolling Stone and this guy knows how to ROCK....

Working for $1 per year to resurrect divisions of a company you didn't fark up, must look good on a resume. Taking the bonus that the Congress AND President approved (though they did not read the proposal), and giving it to those hurt most by the downturn in the economy = greedy farktard, right?

you should read the article. What hit home as far as I'm concerned was the comment about Jake DeSantis claiming innocence. If he *didn't* know what the hell was going on in his office then he was an idiot. If he DID know, then he was an immortal bastard for not doing something to stop it. either way, he's part of the problem.

That was brilliant. Ought to be published in every newspaper in the country.

If he IS immorTal, then we kinda sorta have a little bit of a problem that makes the AIG mess look like an almost-empty gas tank in a Prius.

I had a long and wordy diatribe on this subject, but after reading the article, I have but only one response:

FTA: Hey Jake, it's not like you were curing cancer. You were a farking commodities trader. Thanks to a completely insane, horribly skewed set of societal values that puts a premium on greed and severely undervalues selflessness, communal spirit and intellectualism -- values that make millionaires out of people like you and leave teachers and nurses, the people who raise your kids and clean your parents' bedpans, comparatively penniless -- you made a lot of money.

You expect that money because you think it's owed to you. But what money? The money is gone. Your boss, if not you, set it all afire. You want the money, but where exactly do you think it's coming from?

Do you just not understand that that money now would have to come out of someone else's pocket? That it would have to come from middle-class taxpayers, real plumbers, people who didn't make millions over the years in equity and commodity trading?

For the love of God, someone buy this man a beer.

So very, very much of THIS^!

Your company has no money with which to pay you a big fat bonus. It is broke. Busted. Empty.

You fail. Life sucks. Get over it.

It's pretty astonishing to realize that these idiots don't understand the basic philosophy they live under. One one hand, they justify their high salaries because they are creating money - they buy low and sell high, and so they deserve a portion of the money made. But on the other hand, once they actually lose money, their rationale for getting paid shifts to "i work really hard". Hey, genius - no one gives a shiat if you work really hard. Lots of people work really hard. You want to get paid based on the effort you put in? Join the communist party and get the labor theory of value built into your new communist utopia.

I love Matt Taibbi in print, but I saw him interviewed on The Daily Show and talking on Bill Maher, and he was kind of a twat-waffle.

Anyway, good article. Fark those idiots.

The true delicious irony that I see in this scenario is that Jake DeSantis is gaining a small amount of fame over this whole little "Poor me, someone rub salve on my biatch-tits!" letter. Opinion is ACTIVELY running against his whining like a little girl.

But hey, good luck on that next interview, Jake DeSantis... surely there are dozens of companies waiting to hire a world-famous little biatch.

Congress and the president farked up and they are both trying to cover their asses by vilifying these people instead of themselves for causing this mess.

Yes some of these people do deserve to be vilified, but there is a LEGAL way to void SIGNED CONTRACTS. Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

No. He was in AIGFP. The cancerous part.

2009-03-29 01:31:57 PM
The issue here isn't whether he deserves the bonus or not, the issue is that the bonus was agreed to and now the government is stepping in to say he can't have it. The government has no right to interfere in private contracts just because a lot of people are pissed off. This is Fark, though, so BLAH THEY MAKE SO MUCH MONEY, THEY SHOULD LEARN A TRADE LIKE SYSTEMS ENGINEERING!!!``11!

I would.

If the world collectively sentenced them to die, I would be glad to execute them. Every CEO and higher up in every crooked firm.

They just burned down the house with all of us in it. They deserve to die.

Wow, the anger in this thread is astounding.

I have a feeling if the tables were turned, and someone promised one of you a big bonus at the end of the year in your job if and only if you busted your ass every day, put in more than 40 hours, nights, weekends, whatever, and postponed other parts of your life, and you did all of those things, and at the end of the year be told "Hey buddy, sorry about that, but you're not getting that bonus now, because people you have probably never met in our other division wasted all our money" you would be singing a different tune.

By your logic, the autoworkers should be held to blame for the executives' poor decisions.

Awesome! I'm sure the unions would love to hear that.

Profitable portions of crooked companies are still part of crooked companies. You can split hairs all you want but everyone at AIG knew their business was in literally gambling money they didn't have on assets they didn't own.

You're a farking idiot.

When I am promised a bonus at work there is the inherent implication that the bonus is, well, a BONUS. You know, for the company remaining profitable, and for individual performance.

These people did do great at their jobs. Their jobs, however, were buying and selling insurance on assets they didn't own, with money they didn't have. Literally they said "We're insuring this for billions" when they didn't pay anything to do so and they don't even own the asset.

Yeah, this is really comparable to auto workers.

And you know what, asshole? Last year I didn't get my bonus, I got farking laid off. Because the economy went to shiat. Thanks to these assholes and the assholes flipping houses and raising housing prices by 2-10 times their actual value.

/yeah there's anger
//idiot.
