Yeah, the faceless are pretty much masters of the "black band t-shirt" thing.

It's pretty funny.

But they're farking amazing live, WHOA.

/all three of them are... especially at the same time

To clarify, the bacteria weren't just discovered, we've know about them for awhile. Even better it is that we just identified some of the proteins involved in that metabolic pathway.

It is a silly costume band, why make fun of a pop costume band like that? Cher has a bunch of costumes to, and the old ladies and homos love her long time.

Ahahaha! It's funny because Slipknot sucks.

No, I really mean that. The humor comes from the fact that Slipknot, while arguably metal, is so "toxic" as to require some sort of remediation, from sources bacterial or otherwise.

I need a place to discuss metal with other people who like metal and not deathcore.

In other words, no BMTH or Whitechapel, etc.

Any suggestions?

I think the story has their science wrong. The Shewanella I worked on could take water-soluble uranium and turn it insoluble. This would be useful for waste water cleanup, but I think the insoluble precipitate would still be toxic. Eh, close enough.

I guess this is a bad thread to state that I kinda like Slipknot. Also Nine Inch Nails and Tool. That's gotta grate at a few music snobs' nerves.

With that natural ability, these microbes have caught the eye of scientists who'd like to put them to work cleaning up nuclear waste sites.

I gotta bad feeling about this.....

They do seem to draw a lot of bile from people who care way too much about others' music tastes, though.

Slipknot has one thing going for them the other "real" metal bands mentioned here do not: They're not boring. and it's not contrived; They didn't make their music for scene consumption, to inflate the egos of the few people who listen and go "Gee, no one in the world can play guitars this well. It's TECHNICAL. he's like the best on earth. And double bass with no trigger for like two minutes!!! This is REAL metal!" Not like. Death metal/technical metal/fantasy speed power metal fans think.

Oh, and Slipknots lyrics aren't inane-- Corey talks about things people *actually* think about and experience. No dragons and sword fights here. No tanks rolling over Europe during some nuclear holocaust that exists only in the singer's imagination. No Christians tearing across the European countryside on bloody crusades crushing innocent helpless peons underfoot. No governments busting down your door and taking all your stuff because you have no rights any more. No. Slipknot talks about real stuff. From reality.

Dude - all they did was rip off black metal's theatrics, with none of the playing ability, at the perfect time.

Also; your name pretty much lists you as a nu-metal 'tard.

Your argument about "Real" makes me suggest you should go listen to emo - metal doesn't whine unless it's grinding an axe to slaughter your enemies. You have problems?

So what, solve them. That's metal.

If your metal doesn't have violence, vikings and vicious vivisection, it ain't metal.

I've never met anyone who did not like NIN and Tool. Of any age, race, gender, or religion. I mean even the hardcore fundie grandmas around here think Downward Spiral was a great album for what it is. Not that they own it, but when the teenager next door cranks her stereo, they get curious about all that racket and listen to it. No joke!

Southern Ontario is a weirdly tolerant place when it comes to culture.

That really is the pinnacle of the music video format. There's just no point in making new videos after that.

You're shiatting me. You must be. Go mention Tool at all on the Guitar Hero: World Tour GameFAQs boards. And as for NIN, I saw pah-lenty of bile being spewed Trent's way in a couple past music Fark threads.
