Ender's: No other Americans can possibly getting fed up with this diatribe, I am sure.

I'm not sure what this diatribe you're talking about even is. Do you even know what you're angry about? Because you think we're whiny? Because we occasionally get irritated that we're your best friend and trading partner, but that this doesn't stop Americans from insulting, dismissing, or actively screwing us on a fairly regular basis?

No, you're right, we should just lie down and take it. Then you'd dismiss us for being pussies.

We can't win either way with you, so I guess just piss off. Good luck getting all your friends, family and colleagues to join your insane campaign against the worst neighbor a country could ever ask for, the moist terrible group of people in the world, in fact... farking Canada. Do you realize how stupid you're going to look?

Seriously, though. Yeah, I am one person. Big deal. Just keep talking like I am alone and I am sure it'll stay that way. No other Americans can possibly getting fed up with this diatribe, I am sure.

I'll bet there was a lot of this sort of talk from the Brits when their empire was collapsing too.

Don't sweat it, Ender. These things happen to even the best countries. Even though one day (maybe soon) America will be known as a 'one time superpower', I'm sure everything will work out fine. :)

It's OK America,
We know why you make fun of us. You just can't stand to look at your self and see how bad it really is. We know it's painful, but once you take a long look at your self and try to fix the problems that you have, you will start to feel better and then you won't have to make fun of others. Then everyone in the world will go, "Hey, America seems a bit more grown up these days. Maybe they are not so bad after all"

Also, I'd rather be irrelevant than being the cause of farking up the world. But hey that's just me being a humble canadian.

The U.S. is disliked around the world a lot more than Canada is, if Canada is disliked at all.

Would we prefer to be irrelevant over being disliked? You betcha.

Being hated over being irrelevant works out great for professional wrestlers.

Countries, not so much.

Hrmm, that's ironic. Because when I asked a conglomerate of Canadians what they were so pissed off at and where all the biatching stems from and they responded that it was they thought they were irrelevant in the world compared to America and that all they had were "moose and icehockey" thrown at them everytime a conversation came up. I can understand the frustration, but not the extremes it pushes the Canadian masses to on the internet. For being a country full of people who aren't sheep, you all sure do bleat the same.

You have a point, though. I would rather be irrelevant than despised. So chalk up one point for Canada.

Least you guys admit it, hehe, just as I will admit that America is fairly hated all over the place thanks to Bushco, religion, obesity, or whatever fark all reason you wanna attribute to us. Oh yeah, and that our largest banks were allowed to fail and it has screwed up your financial systems. (Because our economy is just fine and dandy). Just as long as you know that all Americans aren't the fat slobs you like to portray who carry a gun in one pocket and a cell phone with the Republican party on speed dial in the other just as not all Canadians are mounted draft dodgers with one hand in the Stanley Cup and the other in a giant mound of poutine.

That's asking too much, though. That Canada treat America and its people with some remote modicum of decency and/or respect, and I know that. It speaks volumes about your country, however.

As for pointing out your historical inaccuracies earlier, how about the fact that Canada was basically settled by the British after they defeated the French (little thing known as the Seven Years War)? Not sure how in your mind that equates to "bowing to the British during the 1700s" but I'm guessing it has something to do with your stellar education system.

So you are saying that during 9/11 when the US closed its air space to ALL commercial traffic and Canada left itself open to attack by accepting those inbound trans-Atlantic flights that were passed the point of being able to turn around and go back to Europe, that Canada was not treating America with decency and respect?

So you are saying that after 9/11 (when our neighbour, friend, and ally was attacked) when we committed our troops to Afghanistan (the country all your intelligence pointed to as harbouring Bin Laden) Canada was not treating America with decency and respect?

So you are saying that when Canadian soldiers have died in Afghanistan in the war against terrorism, that Canada is not treating America with decency and respect?

So you are saying that when Canada provided aid in the form money, supplies and man power in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina that Canada was not treating America with decency and respect?

Something about a chicken and an egg comes to mind. Who's really to blame? Who started this whole thing first? Did the Canadians start complaining shortly after WWII that there wasn't a memorial in every country for every single Canadian soldier who died? Was it the fact that an American brought up the fact of their close proximity to the United States as being their "security blanket"? Which came first, the chicken or the egg? I dunno. All I know is that we're firmly entrenched in this "America is da debil" and "Canaduh" argument that I am beyond caring anymore.

It was a stereotypical analogy, glad to see you're not too easy to fall for that troll. Oh wait, nvm.

As far as bowing out, well, one group of people couldn't put up with the British and one could, I guess. One fought against the tyrannical taxing system and rebelled, one put up with it and allied themselves with a more powerful world superpower rather than fight a tough fight.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I still haven't seen it to prove the opposite thus far.

You really don't give up when you have your teeth in something do you? Whether you are right or wrong.

First off, the government is the people. I would have thought you would have realized that since it seems to be a popular idea in the States.

Second, when those passenger jets landed in the Maritimes it was the Canadian people that opened their homes to give those passengers places to stay. Don't believe it? Google it.

Third, you don't think Canadian soldiers are people? Great. Want to come up and spit some more on the caskets of our dead soldiers when they come back from Afghanistan?

Knew that was coming. So are you saying that the Canadian people and government show nothing but respect to Americans?

Good for those people who housed the stranded passengers. You can continue to point out examples of decent Canadians, but I have never met one myself. The only ones I meet are on the internet. They're all assholes to Americans here. Read this thread and find out.

The last part is just too out there for me to even respond.

Canadians biatch incessantly about America and generally never say anything good about it on the Internet. That's 100% true and that's fine. They also do it while touting the supremacy of their country to any other. That I will also have to learn to deal with. I will just have to accept it as it appears there is no way for you to stop it because you've just been sooooo wronged. Look at what type of humor you are using to respond to tired schtick Canadian jokes, will you?

Canada hahah moose and hockey lolololol Quebec sucks lololol heheheh Alex Trebek.

Maybe a pic of Southpark anti-Canadianism. (really? How seriously do you take that? Does How I Met Your Mother just anger the ever-loving piss out of you?)

Honest question, are these jokes maddening to you? Do they directly insult your national ego? In short, can you take em?

Then you have:

That's a bit of a different type of humor. Not gallows humor, but "I can't wait to watch you burn" type humor. Funny to Canadians? Maybe some. Funny to everyone? Calling America a turd about to go down the toilet is slightly different than making fun of poutine, but maybe I am just an insensetive American.

It kinda does actually -- there's a promo for that show I see a few times a week where Doogie whines some lame Canadian insult, then looks at the sky and screams "WHY DO WE LET YOU BE A COUNTRY?"

Funny to Americans? I'm sure it's hilarious, and actually probably pretty empowering. "Yeah, why DO we let them be a country?" plenty probably ask themselves. "They're pretty lucky we don't just stomp them into oblivion."

When you're the little guy in that silly, historically ignorant and vaguely threatening joke, it's not funny at all. Forgive me if I find it at least a bit offensive. Even when it's veiled as a joke, I admit to being humourless when it comes to being told my country only exists because some other country with a giant army allows it to, especially since we've already sucessfully defended ourselves once against them in a full-scale war.

Even when it's veiled as a joke, I admit to being humourless when it comes to being told my country only exists because some other country with a giant army allows it to, especially since we've already sucessfully defended ourselves once against them in a full-scale war.

Ender's: Calling America a turd about to go down the toilet is slightly different than making fun of poutine, but maybe I am just an insensetive American.

See above. It goes both ways.

I just want to point out you're getting upset by someone who thinks it's perfectly sound advice so sit naked in a girl's living room while they go to the bathroom in order to get laid. (Naked Man)

It's Barney. Almost everything he says is retarded (except for the bro code). He makes most Americans face palm and almost everything he says, at least by me, is taken as patently ridiculous.

Who farking cares if it isn't intended to be serious? Do you tell 'not meant to be taken seriously' racial jokes? No. No you don't. Why? Because you know damned well it isn't right, serious or not. This is no different. Jokes of this kind are hurtful. To a race, or a country. It makes no difference. You are talking about people.

As to what this specific article talks about, and to this thread, let me say this.

Put any argument up you like, at the end of the day, when Americans slag Canada, even in fun, they do so knowing there can be no possible repercussion. We have no such luxury. Canadians are under no illusions regarding power levels between our two countries. Canadians are well aware that in a conflict we have no hope. We are also well aware that your media power dwarfs ours. In every significant way, the US is capable of defeating Canada in a fight.

When Canadians make fun of America, we risk much. When Americans make fun of Canada, they risk nothing. In my book, that makes the Americans who do so cowards, and the Canadians who do so brave citizens standing up to a bully. A bully who has pushed us (and a good chunk of the rest of the world) around and laughed about it for decades. Then, when called on it, has the unmitigated gall to biatch about it.

Wow. Just wow. First of all, racism is a whole other beast. Dunno why you are trying to allegate that to what we're talking about, so I am going to dismiss it as distractive.

So you're perfectly ok with taking Barney from How I Met Your Mother as the barometer for American sentiment towards Canada? That it doesn't matter whether or not it's meant to be serious? That is the crux of the issue, though. I am sorry you can't see that.

Everything he does on that show is taken by Americans to be absolutely moronic. Since it's him saying what you've taken offense to, you need to take that into account. I feel that you're digging for a fight, though. Doesn't matter what I say, you'll look at it in your own paradigm regardless of logic or any of that nonsense and come up with "Americans are slagging us" regardless.

You need to re-evaluate life, my friend. Seriously. Any other Canadians taking offense to this need to as well.

Canadians making jokes against Americans are heros and Americans making Canadian jokes are cowards.

^ I am putting that on a T-Shirt it's so embarrassingly stupid. You honestly think America is going on invade FOR MAKING A farkING JOKE!!? Look at that. Read it. Take your time. Hopefully some modicum of sense will seep into that cave of depresssion you exist in.

Sigh. I can only assume your naivete runs too deep for you to understand the central concept here.

Nevermind then. My bad.

squidsrus: "We are the last group that can be made fun of without risk. Political correctness has made almost every other ethnicity off-limits"

Yeah, get in line behind blacks, Polish, Asians, fat people, skinny people, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, gypsies, tramps, and thieves.

And METHODISTS!

Methodists?? Methodists??? I can stomach Barack Obama, the "Oreo Rookie," the Stalinist who just "insisted" a CEO step down without any evidence of personal malfeasance or even negligence, and I can stomach El Rushbo the Hutt STILL on the air, but Methodists??? Aaarrgghh!! Those damn, dirty Wesleyans make my blood boil! A Triune God instead of the Holy Trinity? Not bloody likely! So there!

Sorry,
I just felt there was some idiocy left to contribute. So far on this thread, Methodists were the only group left unscathed.

...But I do hate them.
