colon_pow: study the prophesies. you will be convinced.

google biblical prophesies.

the proof is there.

I went a slightly different route, and googled 'prophecy fulfilled'.

Let's see what we've got:

Quetzalcoatl was described as a white man, with a beard, who wore long robes, and who gave a message of love, forbidding the blood sacrifice, teaching of the One Supreme God, and giving the Toltecs many material things of their culture, such as the calendar. He left the Toltecs because of the enmity and persecution of powerful religious leaders, but promised one day to return, as he had left, from the East, over the ocean

1: Various Writings say Quetzalcoatl spoke of a new religion coming in the 13th era. He would return, bringing a reign of peace, and the "advent of a new spiritual order". He would return as he had left, from the East, across the sea. He would be bearded, Caucasian and wear long robes. He said he would come in the year of his birth, but the only date we are given is the year of his spiritual birth, which is the birth of the Toltec Era, as described by H.J. Spinden, or 1168 A.D. The return in the 13th Toltec Era, as foretold in the prophecies, would not be earlier than 1844 A.D.

It may be more than an amazing coincidence that 1844 was the year when millions of Christians all over the world were expecting the imminent return of Christ. The Millerites in American, for example, from whom are descended the present day 7th Day Adventists, were sure, because of the prophecies in Daniel 8:13-14 and in Matthew 24:15, that this event would happen in 1844. When nothing happened that year in the physically glorious form they imagined it would, they were much cast down and disappointed.

It is extraordinary that few or any people had the wisdom to look back into history and see that Jesus Christ had not come in the way the People of His time expected. The people in the Holy Land in 1 A.D. all expected a great Messiah, but they thought He would arrive with great glory. However, the Messiah came with spiritual glory to test them, not in the physical glory they expected. The First Century of the Christian Era was like the dawn when the first light reaches only the mountain top so that only a few see and recognize the Sun of Truth rising above the horizon. Let us look then carefully to the year 1844 and see if we cannot find that a great spiritual Being same to men in that year, but was not seen by most of them because He did not come with the Physical glory expected. If so, then He fulfilled both the Biblical prophecies and those of the Toltecs and Aztecs.

"And it shall come to pass that I, the Lord God, will send one mighty and strong, holding the scepter of power in his hand, clothed with light for a covering, whose mouth shall utter words, eternal words; while his bowels shall be a fountain of truth, to set in order the house of God...
While that man, who was called of God and appointed, that putteth forth his hand to steady the ark of God, shall fall by the shaft of death, like as a tree that is smitten by the vivid shaft of lightning."

-Doctrine & Covenants, section 85:7-8 (Book of Mormon)

2: Section 85 contains two significant prophecies:

The "man, who was called of God and appointed, that putteth forth his hand to steady the ark of God" was Joseph Smith. As prophesied in this passage, Joseph Smith actually did "fall by the shaft of death" "as a tree that is smitten by the vivid shaft of lightning..."

Joseph Smith was shot and killed on June 27, 1844.

The second half of this prophecy infers that when Joseph Smith is shot, the "one mighty and strong" will appear. Once again, Joseph Smith was shot in 1844. The prophecies of Joseph Smith foretell the coming of an Elijah figure.... a forerunner like John the Baptist. In other words, this prophecy predicts that a forerunner will appear in the year 1844.

"When the practices taught by the Vedas and the institutes of law shall nearly have ceased, and the close of the Kali age shall be nigh, a portion of that divine being who exists of his own spiritual nature in the character of Brahma, and who is the beginning and the end, and who comprehends all things, shall descend upon the earth. He will be born as Kalki in the family of an eminent brahmin of Sambhala village, endowed with the eight superhuman faculties. By his irresistible might he will destroy all the barbarians and thieves, and all whose minds are devoted to iniquity. He will then re-establish righteousness upon earth; and the minds of those who live at the end of the Kali age shall be awakened, and shall be as pellucid as crystal. The men who are thus changed by virtue of that peculiar time shall be as the seeds of human beings, and shall give birth to a race who shall follow the laws of the Krita age, the Age of Purity."

--- Vishnu Purana 4.24

3: All the Hindu scriptures are agreed that when conditions have reached this point, when things have deteriorated and mankind has sunk to the lowest depths of moral degradation, then the Lord will again manifest Himself as the Kalki Avatar... when Vedic religion and the dharma of the law books have nearly ceased and the Kalki Yuga is almost exhausted, then a part of the creator of the entire universe, the blessed Lord Vasudeva [Vishnu], will become incarnate here in the universe in the form of Kalki.

Scholars have demonstrated that the prophecies in the Manu Srmiti and other books indicate the exact date of the end of the kalki Yuga and the coming of the Kalki Avatar. This date, 1844, is also the year of the beginning of the Baha'i Faith. Therefore we believe that, faithful to the promises and prophecies recorded in the Hindu holy books, the Lord has now manifested Himself again in the form of the Kalki Avatar. Baha'is believe that, this is the Baha'u'llah.

[Buddha] made it clear that He was about to pass away, and when Ananda became disconsolate, Buddha consoled him and said:

"Have I not formerly declared to you that it is in the very nature of all things near and dear to us, to pass away? O Ananda, seeing that whatever is brought into being contains within itself the inherent necessity of dissolution, how can it be that such a being should not be dissolved?"

He informed Ananda that in another three months He would pass away. Ananda, suppressing his tears, said to the Blessed One:

"Who shall teach us when Thou art gone?"

And the Blessed One replied:

...'I am not the first Buddha Who came upon this earth, nor shall I be the last. In due time another Buddha will arise in the world, a Holy One, a supremely enlightened One, endowed with wisdom in conduct, auspicious knowing the universe, an incomparable leader of men, a Master of angels and mortals. He will reveal to you the same eternal truths which I have taught you. He will preach to you His religion, glorious in its origin, glorious at the climax and glorious at the goal, in spirit and in the letter. He will proclaim a religious life, wholly perfect and pure, such as I now proclaim.' His disciples will number many thousands, while Mine number many hundreds.'

Ananda said,

"How shall we know Him?"

The Blessed One replied:

"He will be known as Maitreya, which means He Whose name is "kindness.'"

4: The birth name of Baha'u'llah, founder of the Baha'i faith, was Husayn, which is Arabic for 'kindness'.

Now lets do, oh.. Shinto!

ninjakirby: Now lets do, oh.. Shinto!

In the Japanese spiritual/religious tradition of Kinmei Reigakkai, the great Onisaburo Deguchi successfully prophesied the outbreaks of the Russo-Japanese War, World War I and World War II, and the development of technology-oriented civilization in his poem collection Iroha Uta, Vol. 2.

A reknowned spiritual medium, Onisaburo has a laundry list of successful prophecies.

On Jan. 27, 1919, Onisaburo made the following proclamation:

"On National Foundation Day in the year of the bird"
(Feb. 11, 1921; government decision to persecute Omoto)
"the flowering spring of four fours are sixteen"
(1927; settlement of the First Omoto Incident)
"the Reconstruction of the world, the year of the chrysanthemum"
(1941; outbreak of the Pacific War)
"when even common mortals will hear, the working of September 8"
(Sep. 8, 1951; the San Francisco Peace Treaty).

Onisaburo made another pronouncement on December 22, 1918 to the effect that "three years from now if you are not very careful a terrible devil will bewitch you. In the year of the bird an unprecedented and not to be repeated misfortune will befall Henjo Nyoshi(= Onisaburo), so I am warning you in advance.

The "year of the bird" is 1921, "Henjo Nyoshi" is Onisaburo, and, on February 11 (National Foundation Day), 1921, Shohei Fujinuma, Chief of Kyoto Prefectural Police Headquarters, issued an emergency summons, assembled 110 policemen, and, in the early hours of the following morning led a combined force of approximately 250 policemen, with additional recruits from Ayabe and Fukuchiyama, in a raid on Omoto. This was the first suppresion of Omoto.

Sep. 8, 1931
"Erecting three stone monuments, prepared some time previously, on the summit of the hill, Honguyama, in Ayabe, Onisaburo warned that, "Ten days from now a great incident will occur and develop on a world scale."

On Sept 18, 1931, the bombing of the Manchurian railway by the Japanese Kwantung Army occurred. It is known as the Mukden Incident, solidifying Japans imperialistic presence in the world order.

"This year is 1931 according to the Western calendar, and is therefore the beginning of war (in Japanese the numerals 1, 9 and 3 can be read i-ku-sa, which means war, and the final 1 can be read hajime, which means beginning), and this year is also the 2591st year after the accession of the first Japanese Emperor, and therefore is the beginning of Hell (the numerals 2, 5 and 9 can be read ji-go-ku, which means Hell)."

In the same year, Onisaburo republished his book of prophecies Mizu no Shinka, which had caused such a commotion in the Taisho period.

This book contained highly provocative material such as "The Land of the Gods... unassailable by other lands, the land of plenty created by the Gods, this has become a dream of the past."

Triggered off by the bombing of the Manchurian Railway, connected to the "Siberian route" which according to Mizu no Shinka the "perverted spirits" would take, war with America and a world war were imminent. ("And presently Japan will be hit by a rain of American bombs without number. The people will ford a river of blood....")

Not surprisingly, the highly sensitive authorities were indignant. As early as February 1932, the book was banned.

Six years later, Japan entered into combat with America, signifying their involvement in the second World War.

Oh god the end of times! Woohoo!

You mean like the prophesy that the second coming would be before all the original apostles/deciples would "pass"?
Matthew 24
33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Oh, and for the record. I would be willing to venture a reasoned guess that most of the members of the permanently evolving riot club are as or more familiar with the bible than you are, dude. So if you want to get into a "I can beat you with bible quotes" discussion, you will be sorely out matched. Stick with our lack of knowledge about science. At least you'll get spanked on the oppositions home field, which is less embarrassing than getting toasted on your own turf. Even the Bevbot stays away from that.

Matthew 24
33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Matthew 23:36; the form of 'generation' that is used in that passage is 'genean' and is only used in four places in Scriptures, compared to 17 for the dominant genea, and 13 for geneas.

Who is this generation? Briefly stated, the tradition more or less equates the word genea with English 'generation'. This does not seem to agree with the meaning of the Greek word and it does not make good sense in most places where the word occurs in the New Testament. Rather, genea means 'a class of people bound together through a common origin or with a common bond.' In certain contexts genea does have the very restricted sense of the English "generation," but in most contexts it does not have this narrow sense. I suspect that the word "generation" has undergone a semantic shift in English so that the meaning today is very much narrowed down as compared to the Greek genea.

Even the Vulgate translation used four different Latin words to translate genea, one of which is generatio. But the word generatio is used to translate other Greek words as well, for example, Matt 1:1 genesis (GNB: family record) and Luke 12:18 genema (fruit). In Danish we have the word "generation" as a modern adopted word. It has the same area of meaning as the corresponding English word, but it is never used to translate genea in the New Testament. In English there is some evidence that the area of meaning of "generation" has narrowed down considerably since the time of the KJV translation. The evidence is that the word gennjma 'brood' in Matt 3:7 is translated by "generation" in KJV as well as the word genos 'race, people' in 1 Pet 2:9. The Oxford English dictionary gives the following, now obsolete (latest attested use 1727) sense of "generation": "class, kind or set of persons."

The purpose of the above remarks was to show that the meaning of the Greek word genea is not at all equivalent to the modern English word "generation." We shall now proceed to discuss what genea actually means.

2.1 The primary sense is 'descendants, family, clan, that is, a group of people with a common ancestor' (see for instance: New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology, 2.35).

This primary sense occurs rarely in the New Testament. With the word in singular it occurs in Acts 8:33, "Who can describe his genea? For his life is taken up from the earth." Both GNB, JB and NIV translate genea here by 'descendants.' The word occurs in plural in Matt 1:17 with a closely related sense of 'succeeding sets of descendants, stages in a genealogy' and is probably best translated generations: Matt 1:17 "So all the geneai from Abraham to David were fourteen geneai."

2.2 The secondary sense is a natural extension of the first sense and can be stated thus: 'a group of people with a common bond or characteristic; a certain class or type of people'. This sense is common in the New Testament. The GNB often translates it simply as "people." The characteristic feature of the people referred to is in all cases drawn out from the context. I shall go through all New Testament occurrences of genea below (references in parentheses are to parallel passages).

Luke 16:8: "The sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own genea than the sons of light." The important contextual clue to the characteristic of the group of people referred to is the word "own" which qualifies genea. Therefore, NIV, NEB and JB have translated it as "dealing with [people of] their own kind." The sense is "people like themselves in their worldliness" and not as Phillips puts it: "contemporaries."

Acts 2:40: "For he [Peter] testified with many other words and exhorted them, saying, "'Save yourselves from this crooked genea'." Here the contextual clue is "crooked." GNB translates it reasonably well as "save yourselves from this wicked people." The demonstrative "this" is anaphoric, referring back to the preceding context about the people who rejected the Messiah and nailed him to the cross (v. 36). A more meaning-based (idiomatic) translation of this verse might be: "Disassociate yourselves from those wicked people" or "Turn away from that kind of people, and be saved."

Phil 2:15: "that you may be...without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse genea." The contextual clue to the characteristic feature of the group of people referred to is "crooked and perverse." GNB translates: "in a world of corrupt and sinful people." NLT has "a dark world full of crooked and perverse people."

Matt 17:17: (Mark 9:19; Luke 9:41) "O, faithless and perverse genea how long shall I stay with you?" Again the characteristic feature of the people referred to is shown by the qualifiers: faithless and perverse. Many commentators claim that the word genea has a pejorative character. This sounds like reading the meaning of the contexts into the meaning of the word. This is what James Barr called "illegitimate totality transfer" (1961:218). Rather, the word genea in itself is neutral. The pejorative part of the overall meaning is supplied solely by the connotations of the context.
GNB translates this verse as "How unbelieving and wrong you people are." Phillips has "You really are an unbelieving and difficult people." NLT has "You stubborn, faithless people!" The actual reference is to the disciples.

Matt 12:39: (Mark 8:12; Matt 16:4; Luke 11:29) "Some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, 'Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.' But he answered them [scribes and Pharisees], 'An evil and adulterous genea seeks for a sign...' " As usual, the characteristics of the people referred to is shown by the qualifiers: "evil and (spiritually) adulterous." The actual reference is to those scribes and Pharisees who demanded signs but did not want to accept Jesus.
In translating this passage, the GNB deviates from the pattern set by the examples quoted above. It says: "How evil and godless are the people of this day." Nothing in the Greek text can justify the addition of the words "of this day." Maybe the GNB translators had not realised at this point that genea is not the same as "generation"? Or maybe they were influenced by Matt 23:36 discussed below? In any case, it is rather unfortunate that I cannot quote a single English translation which renders this verse in a manner which is consistent with the overall meaning of the word genea.

Matt 23:36: (Luke 11:50) "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! (v. 23,25,27,29)...Truly, I say to you, all this will come upon this genea." Having seen the pattern from the examples above where genea in itself refers to a class or type of people and the qualifying word(s) and the context describe the characteristic feature of the people, it is natural to expect the qualifying word "this" to point to the characteristics of the group of people referred to. The first instance of "this" refers back to the punishment mentioned in verses 33 and 35 (judgment of hell and the blood of all the righteous). It seems most likely that the phrase "this genea" refers back to the group of people he has just been speaking about.

Isn't literacy grand?
