Elevator ride takes 55 seconds plus the three hour wait in line. Ick.

Damn, 9 mins. & 33 secs. I'm 33, and would most likely die by the 30th floor. That's a hell of a feat, if you think about it.

But when he got to the top, the bathroom was closed for repairs...

"...covering 86 floors and 1,576 steps up the stairwells in taking the long way to the top of New York's tallest building."

That's the first time I've seen that in print. My God, that's sad.

If i knew him, i'd send him this message

Ooooh. But he rode the elevator down right?

(waaaa waaaa waaaaa waaaaaaaaaaa)

Does anyone else feel just a little icky about watching a bunch of New Yorkers rushing to a skyscraper stairwell (even if it is in the other direction this time)?

Well, I'm impressed. Makes more sense than trying to amass the world's largest toothpaste collection.

Pretty sad that a 91 year old beat a 28 year old. He says he was nursing an injury though... if got beaten by a 91 year old I would say that I was just getting used to my new prosthetic legs.

Let's face it, everyone can do that, we just need to focus on one thing, a couple of very hot lesbians waiting for you at the top and willing to do everything you want if you get there in less than 9 minutes 34 seconds.... O yeah... everything....

2003-02-04 11:20:43 PM
Uh, didn't the elevator beat him up to the top?

Pretty sad that a 91 year old beat a 28 year old. He says he was nursing an injury though...

Then again, the old guy had an edge. Someone told him he'd get a can of strained peas at the finish line and after that the adrenaline REALLY kicked in.

It's 2.75 steps per second (if anyone cared). So all you have to do is take the steps two at a time, and walk fast. No literal running involved, unless you've got too short of legs to take them two steps at a time.

2003-02-04 11:22:30 PM
DUH, c'mon man, just even think about a way to get there before a freakin elevator, it's fast you know!

Ludicrusly fast!

2003-02-04 11:23:38 PM

Would it be ironic if the guy reached the top, and was immediately grabbed by King Kong and crushed to death in his hairy palm ?

I just walked up and down my stairs, and realized that's a fairly slow pace. I can easily do 4 steps a second, though maybe I'd slow down after a few flights. Makes me wish I was there though. Might be fun to try.

freshman year of college i used to run up the 27 stories of my dorm. Used to be able to make it the 20th floor without slowing down...got hard after that though.

Hey, at age 91 I want to be able to walk up the Empire State building, even if it takes 40 hours instead of 40 minutes. Someone give these guys' cardiovascular systems the HERO tag.

2003-02-04 11:56:43 PM
Superman could do it faster...

2003-02-05 12:06:43 AM
Yes Homeless_need_help, it's shocking to read that again after so long.

2003-02-05 12:17:08 AM
For the guy who mentioned the 3 hour elevator wait.....if you ever want to get around it, tell them you dont want to wait and will take the stairs. Rather than deal with it they will let you go ahead.....

2003-02-05 01:33:21 AM
Everybody doing straight division to get the stairs per second rate he must maintain is off because of the time it would take to make a complete 180 degree change in direction and travel around the semicircular path connecting the adjoining stairways. I'm sure it would be much easier if the building consisted of one continuous flight of stairs...but seriously...

2003-02-05 01:59:17 AM
This guy is obviously Satan... it took him 6.66 seconds per floor....

2003-02-05 05:48:11 AM
What the fark is this shiat. Four hours later.

I climbed Mount Monadnock last year and it took me over an hour to go only 50% more vertical distance. And I had to stop to rest.

Maybe it sounds less impressive if you say his equivalent power output was only half a horsepower.

Superman could do it faster... Yeah, but i bet it'll be hell getting that wheelchair up those stairs

CNN said he was running 50 times the speed of light.

2003-02-05 03:47:21 PM
That makes me look kinda pathetic...my dorm is 5 floors, and I (of course) live at the top...i'm winded by the 3rd floor...and I'm in decent shape!!!
