Jim Carrey as Curly Howard

Pack it up, folks. The world's over.

Sean Penn as Larry?

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Mariah Carey stars as the wife of a diplomat engaged in an affair with Chris Penn, which they try to hide from Franco's police in Civil War-era Spain. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro.

Jack Black seems so obvious.

When I read Carey, I thought they meant Drew Carey, you know as Curly. I read the article and, well Facepalm.

To be fair, you have to act very stupid to play a Stooge, and Penn has already gone FR.

Holy shiat. How much of a massive failure can this be. It's not like will it fail. It's like is there a finite limit to the amount of suckitude that can possibly exist.
There are certain hallowed acts that should never be remade. The Three Stooges is one of them.

/the suck will be epic.

I don't care who you are...Drew Carey could so pull off Curly. Penn Jillette not so sure but I find Drew Carey hilarious.

Penn and del Toro (and begrudgingly, Carey) are good enough actors to do slapstick well, I believe, but with the Farrelly brothers involved, all I can say is: DO NOT WANT.

I cant say I am surprised, disgusted yes, but not surprised.

That is the worst set of casting decisions that I have ever heard of.
What would your choices be? I am sure that we could come up with a better list than that.

2009-03-25 03:47:41 PM
My (significant other, computer, band, favorite actor, city, martial art) is better than your (significant other, computer, band, favorite actor, city, martial art).

/that should cover it.

Can I just mention that this is a horrible farking idea and it's now even more horribler with this horrible farking casting?

If you want some Stooges, buy the DVD sets that have been coming out recently. Columbia finally had the sense to clean up the master prints and release them in chronological order. These are far funnier than anything this horrible farking movie is going to bring forth.

/horribler is a word

I'm genuinely surprised to hear that they didnt' shoehorn Seth Rogan onto the list somehow.

cehlen -- the biopic that Mel Gibson produced a few years ago had a pretty good cast. Michael Chiklis did an awesome job as Curly.

The Farrelly Brothers are the great-great-great-great-grandparents of the creators of Ow, My Balls! Sub-kindergarten humor for emotionally arrested morons.

I have never heard of that movie. Looking at his picture on Wikipedia, he reminds me of Jason from Ghost Hunters.

Maybe I fail at reading, but it does not appear any of the 3 actors have signed on. In fact, it just looks like a studio wishlist and they are just now talking to them.

H_is_for_Heretic: Jack Black seems so obvious.

Maybe if it were a good idea to redo the three stooges at all, but it's just not a good idea. Some ideas can be redone, even if they were well done the first time around. As good as Anthony Hopkins was in Silence of the Lambs, I could still see a talented actor redoing the role and making it his own (hannibal rising doesn't count). But there are some roles that are almost, if not completely, inseperatable from the people who played them. This could be because that particular person's take on the character was so masterful, that it becomes THE definitive version, and any attempts to redo it would simply be a step down, no matter how well done. Or it could be because that person created the character (like in the case of the three stooges). The Stooges, IMHO, are simply not fair game for reinvention.

Sean Penn established himself as a stooge years ago. His classic comedy routine trying to restart his little fishing boat in Newawleens was ROFLMAO material.

I don't how this film would be good with ANY actors, but I am encouraged by the fact that they want actors, not goofy comics, to play the stooges. Sean Penn as Larry is too goofy a mix to fail.

I would not want Jack Black, as I would be seeing Jack Black and not Curly. Jim Carrey has proved he can become another comic already and will probably be great but gee he's kinda tall and thin.

/ available to play ron asheton if the producers want to call.

Hm.
Are they going to surgically implant a funny bone in Penn first?

/have you seen his 'comedies'?

in defense of the project - they said this isn't going to be a Stooges biopic, more of a re-imagining...

Gonna have to own up to not reading the complete article It's not a biopic? Jesus.

Also Jack Black has given some hints he might be an ok dramatic actor (Margot at the Wedding)but actually being a stooge? This is gonna be awful. The only slightly silver lining is getting to see Jim Carrey get fat.

You and anyone associated with this project can DIAF. Then the ashes get encased in concrete, and blasted into a nearby black hole. And after that, things get violent...

/don't need to be reimagined
