My company has a psychologist come in to our SoCal offices twice a week. She's a PHD and a very nice lady. I help facilitate her presentations. Anyway, we've become workplace friends over the years. One day we are talking about work experiences and she went on to tell me about her 9 month at a the largest PD in our area. Most of these guys were wrecks according to her. Many of them were forced in to counseling in order to keep their jobs do to behavoural and conduct issues. Among the less haneous things she was willing to tell me about was the constant theft. According to her a large percentage of these 'officers' would steel anything that wasn't nailed down; from the locker-rooms (other officers); the evidence rooms; from civilians and criminal property alike. She couldn't take it and left after less than a year. I could see the look in her eyes and her breathing change when she went on about it. I really had no idea what it's like with these guys. I mean I have a retired PD uncle whoes a bit cracked, but damn - she seemed traumatized herself.

Just remember - you want to be courteous to police, but don't trust them - do not. The reason you want to be courteous is that they are less likely to take a big shiat on you - and get away with it.

I live in a town with low crime rate, I see the officers around town when they are off duty from time to time, and most seem friendly enough. But then, I've not been one of their customers in over 20 years so...

My condolences.

Hardly surprises me... It's not like you have to be a moral citizen to become a police officer. From my view, the vast majority of police officers (this doesn't include those who actually fight crime) are a bunch of scum bags on a power trip that think they are beyond the law.

I totally understand why some people who weren't blessed with intellect decide to become police officers, but couldn't you atleast try to make an honest living? (sorry, writing speeding tickets and busting people for pot crimes doesn't count)

As a resident of the general area, I can say that this happening in Conroe isn't surprising. Most of the stories you here from the F the police crowd on fark could easily come from that town.

One thing everyone in Houston knows, is that you don't F with cops. I moved here from Ohio and learned my lesson the hard way. Got thrown in jail with wife-beaters and thieves for not changing the address on my license. I kid you not!

There was an incident in Bellaire (inner city white suburb) where a cop shot this black guy in front of his house. The guy was an ex-MLB player and was basically sticking up for his mom after the cop shoved her up against their own garage! Thank god the kid lived, but I doubt they're going to seriously penalize the cop.
