I hope Jeb's actions don't tarnish the stellar and up-standing Bush family name.

"Bush, who has saidpromotion ofreading is a top priority"

Proof reading is important as well.

Second order of business, beating people who pronounce it "lie-barry".

2003-02-04 03:33:22 PM
What a shame. Half those books weren't even colored in yet.

2003-02-04 03:33:47 PM
what the hell? how can you close down a library on a major university?

2003-02-04 03:34:32 PM
Told last week that the flap doesn't seem to be going away, Bush answered, "So, stop writing about it."

The bush family motto.

2003-02-04 03:35:20 PM
Why do the Bushes hate America???

Told last week that the flap doesn't seem to be going away, Bush answered, "So, stop writing about it."

Well. That's scary. I off to live in Canada now, where there is no Bush family to Fark things up.

Honestly, did Bush have ancestors from the Ozarks or something?

Holding programs hostage is a tried-and-true way of demanding more tax dollars.

He isn't shutting down the university library, Pico... He's shutting down the state library and trucking the stacks to FSU's library... Without giving them the resources to handle the new collections.

Once upon a time I thought that Jed might actually be the brains of the family, but this is such a stupid move that I must have been mistaken... Either that, or he's been spending way too much time talking to "Dubya"...

2003-02-04 03:38:31 PM
I don't think any of the bushes really know what is going on. They just live in their little worlds where they are in charge and you do what they say. Otherwise, you are a terrorist and will be hung by your genitals until dead.

So now the University will have to spend money to deal with all of this, money that could have been used to educate.

Congrats Jeb, you've brought the educational level of Florida down a notch and screwed the already educated in fell swoop.

2003-02-04 03:45:13 PM
*ahem* 'one' fell swoop.

Slinks off in shame.

Florida has libraries!?

/obvious

2003-02-04 03:48:18 PM
Jeb Bush's dream is to find enough money in the budget so that he could build a new library on Farenheit 451 Avenue.

2003-02-04 03:48:47 PM
That's almost as good as President George W. Bush's response to this question at the Blair-Bush press conference:

Q: One question for you both: Do you believe that there is a link between Saddam Hussein, a direct link, and the men who attacked on Sept. 11?

BUSH: (OFF-MIKE) make that claim.

BLAIR: I think that answers your question.

Yes, that was our President's response to the direct question of whether there is a tie between Iraq and Sept. 11th. Here's the transcript.

Maybe next time he'll just say, "Stop asking that."

2003-02-04 03:49:21 PM
a library in florida is a WMD, after all think of what that hijacker could have done if he could've read all that mail he stole.

2003-02-04 03:49:37 PM
This boob keeps putting his farking foot in his mouth, and people still reelected him. I just don't get it.

He's stated he's got "fiendish plans" to derail legislation he couldn't veto. During a huge child welfare crisis, he's calling DCF workers lesbians and alludes to "juicy gossip" in front of the press.

At least many of the other filthy politicians know when to keep their mouths shut. This guy just unabashedly plods his way through governing without regard to anyone else's opinions, needs, or relevant facts about the state.

2003-02-04 03:50:16 PM
None of the Bush family is fit to run anything.

2003-02-04 03:50:38 PM
So now the University will have to spend money to deal with all of this, money that could have been used to educate.

I hope this doesn't mean FSU has to close down the Circus program they have on campus. I don't know what that school will do if their Circus program terminates.

At least their Department of Anthropology will still be housed in a Strip Mall, right next to Snooker's Pool Hall.

Oh how that University cracked me up when I briefly lived in Tallahassee.

Fark all of Florida and their tag (Except the Panthers go Panthers!!) WE WANT A CANADA TAG!

2003-02-04 03:53:08 PM
Florida libraries suck. All books for old people with titles like, "God's Waiting Room", and "How to Drive
Ever So Slowly", or, "I Know What You Did Last Century".

2003-02-04 03:54:39 PM
Let's face it, it's daddy's money that got these two into office.

Maybe we could start an ad campaign about this.

"If you buy oil from Texas, you are supporting the Bush Families Stupidity and lies"

2003-02-04 03:57:06 PM
OK, this is shocking people why? Jeb Bush is about as sharp as a marble. The closest thing he'd get to a book is the new edition of Playboy or maybe How To Get Ahead With Daddy's Money.

2003-02-04 03:58:11 PM
Apparently, if he were speaking into the microphone, this is what we would have heard:

But Bush, whose government has sought to link Iraq to the September 11, 2001, attacks on America, said he could not draw a direct link between Saddam and the September 11 hijackers. "Can't make that claim," he said, in response to a question.

Source: Yahoo!

So there you have it. According to President George W. Bush, there is no link between the Sept. 11th hijackings and Saddam Hussein. What will be the next card revealed in his bluff?

2003-02-04 04:02:18 PM
CanuckGuy: Bullseye! "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain." These weasels will do anything and everything to get their way, regardless of anyone or anything.

2003-02-04 04:02:39 PM
What, does any stupid-arse story taking place in FL get posted?

I bet if that story I submitted about President Bush suffering the long-term effects of drug abuse was actually about Jeb Bush, it would have gotten posted hours ago.

2003-02-04 04:04:56 PM
jimf, you must be new, florida is the worst part of the gene pool there for we must moniter its actions to determine when it needs to be destroyed.

2003-02-04 04:05:17 PM
"Congrats Jeb, you've brought the educational level of Florida down a notch and screwed the already educated in fell swoop."

No, the voters in Florida did this when voting for the smaller class size amendment. This amendment will cost over $23 billion, and the Governor has to make cuts in order to keep the budget balanced. This is something that his brother should take a look into.

2003-02-04 04:06:07 PM
Hey!!! How can this not be a wonderful decision?!?! Here we are as a species felling all these trees under the guise of "knowlege". Here comes our great leader Jeb who wants to help the environment. We're hacking down all these forests for these menial things called 'books', that IS NOT RIGHT!!! Get rid of the books and you help the environment!

See? The Bushes are the ecosystem's greatest friend!

(side note, I want to kill myself after typing that)

2003-02-04 04:06:44 PM
Well, lets be honest here. It's not like anybody used it or anything.

/runs, hides....

Pretty much every state is making budget cuts these days, because of bad spending descisions. Why they have to is irrelevant.

Aw Fark it. I blame the evil subliminal messages from Disney.

2003-02-04 04:13:14 PM
The FSU anthropology department is *stuck* out there in the strip mall because the university is overcrowded and underfunded to the point that they can't find a place for us on campus. On the upside, the parking's better.

As to the library issue, the new FSU president gave Bush the unusually (in this "Bush-yes-man age") ballsy answer of "No." They're looking for another sucker as we speak...

2003-02-04 04:13:32 PM
Fortheloveof, not that new. And I thought Arkansas was the worst part of the gene pool...

2003-02-04 04:18:04 PM
StrikitRich: So the answer is to do double the harm to education? Fund one side of education by burdening another?

Yes - it was inevitable that the class size amendment was going to make budgeting difficult. But surely we can accomplish with without completely destroying state education completely. How about charging developers their fair share of property taxes, instead of letting them claim farmland exemptions for their future resorts and golf courses? Just a thought....

2003-02-04 04:19:26 PM
jimf
they would be but they are to busy killing themselves. saves us the trouble.

2003-02-04 04:26:27 PM
Good Christ, even Dubya's smacking himself in the forehead over that one...

2003-02-04 04:30:53 PM
To my roomate upon reading this article
"Hey josh the FSU library is getting a million extra books"
"We have a library?"

2003-02-04 04:35:28 PM
If the state hase an anual budget somewhere in the $40 billion range, and the class size amendment is going to cost over $20 billion, taxes are going to have to go up, and services are going to get cut. That's all there is to it. Remember, this is a governmental library, not a school library.

2003-02-04 04:38:14 PM
It's a school library now.

Florida Leader Ironically Manufactures Flordia Library Appreciation Month.

Acronym: FLIMFLAM

2003-02-04 04:56:38 PM
StrikitRich hit the nail on the head. The main issue here is that the voters voted for the class size amendment and they did not vote for McBride. (the democrat who would have been the right man to implement the class size amendment)
So instead we've got Jeb who is going to make some drastic and stupid cuts all over the already bankrupt state budget (and leave his pet projects untouched) which will ultimately hurt education far more than doing nothing.

2003-02-04 05:02:01 PM
a similar thing happened in minnesota, which is currently the only state in the nation that doess not have a state library (woo whoo! we beat floida!). because of massive budget shortfalls, the state library was closed, all of the staff was fired, and the collection was boxed up and stored.

what they failed to realize, however, is that the staff at the state library were in charge of all of the grant writing and funding dispersal for every public and academic library in the state. this caused a major outcry from librarians accross the state because they no longer knew how they were going to be funded. what's worse is that the state government didn't have an answer. that, and they found out that there is a law in minnesota that declares that there must be a state library to disperse library funds.

now, while the entire state library collection is still boxed up and unavailable to the public, many of the state librarians that were fired were rehired because the state government realized that they didn't have the knowledge or resourses to disperse funds.

2003-02-04 05:21:07 PM
Otoscope: That much I'll agree to. Jeb got saddled with legislation he didn't support. But, he's the Governor and it's the law. If something is enacted in Florida through ballot initiatives, the Governor cannot veto it. So instead he's doing everything in his power to make it fail (recall his "devious plans to derail it"?).

But all in all, the results of the recent election defy all reasonable sense.

2003-02-04 05:33:40 PM
Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll declare a Government Appreciation Month.

2003-02-04 06:09:05 PM
Ahh, the good ol' O-town Sentinel. Blurring the line between news and opinion until they seem one and the same.

Journalism is dead. Long live Journalism.
