Good gravy- cut the man some slack. I don't care for him or his politics but if I routinely traveled to 3 or 4 states a day a couple days a week I don't think I could keep track of where the hell I'd been either.
Fleischer said Tuesday that after further review, Bush's staff could find no record of the visit.

End of the story. Dog a politician for fuzzy memories related to his politics, etc. but we didn't elect him as the idiot-savant in chief.

"To the president's recollection, he thinks he has been there, but was strung out on Coke at the time." his spokesman said, adding that Bush's staff from Texas also thought they recalled such a visit but were all drunk at the time themselves.

The question came up (you know, asshat reporters and all) that the President, when he was governor of Tejas, had never gone to the Space Center in Houston. (which, if you didn't know, has only been a HUGE part of Houston since the sixties, and is commonly visited by schoolkids, tourists, etc.) Oh, yeah, Bush's pop lives in Houston now, and Bush's ranch is about an hour by air if you've got your own helicopter and/or jet, which I hear he has.

Ari insisted he had gone "in 95 or 96" but nobody at Johnson ever saw him visit. The fact that the folks at the space center say "he didn't visit" is called "murky" by Ari is asinine at best.

The spokesman said Bush has never seen a NASA launch or landing, in part because there are so many other beautiful things to see in the country that he has yet to explore.

What rubbish! He found time to visit a warehouse a couple of weeks ago, but never thought "gee, we're spending billions if not trillions on space exploration, maybe it would be worth a peek."

When i lived in Seattle i never went to the space needle, there are some things that all the tourists do in your city that you never seem to do. I didn't rta but i'm sure its pointless

2003-02-04 03:30:33 PM
So he didn't care about space exploration or the shuttle before it exploded but now he's sharing his sympathies with the families and the employees in the program. What's the big deal?

Mole hill.

2003-02-04 03:31:56 PM
Bush asked the reporter to clarify the question by asking "Is that the space center with the mountain and the mouse?"

2003-02-04 03:32:21 PM
You know, his Murky period could last longer than Reagans.

And my "can't close tags" pariod is over!

I don't know why this annoys me so much, other than it is just politics and stupid (but then I'm being redundant).

Chinese President Jiang Zeminvisited Space Center Houston (right before going to see Dubya at his ranch).

He was only in the US for four days and is a freakin' communist dictator, but hey, at least they're interested in space travel over there.

Again: Ari / Dubya should never have said that he went somewhere he didn't go. That's just stupid, and the only reason to say it (and then to say it is "murky" when you can't back up your own statement) is politics.

2003-02-04 03:36:56 PM
Didn't vote for the man, wouldn't vote for in another election to save my life. Making an issue out of this is just asinine however.

You have to forgive chimpboy. Years of cocaine and alcohol abuse does terrible things to your memory and your cognitive abilities in general.

If I were President, I'd get the best gal durn seats in the house for at least one of those a year.

Hell I'd spend half my time poking my head into super off limits high security shoot-you-dead areas, just because I could. I'd stand at the sidelines of the superbowl, in the dugout for the world series, and on the bench at the Stanley Cup.

You're the president! Most of the nation is going to hate you no matter what you do, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Johnc98- you're partially right. We didn't elect him.

Dubya -> I am absolumpfy sure I visitated the Space Center.

2003-02-04 04:20:11 PM
One word comes to mind. Dumbass.

2003-02-04 04:20:44 PM
This is great reporting.

The spokesman said Bush has never seen a NASA launch or landing, in part because there are so many other beautiful things to see in the country that he has yet to explore.

Now, does he have yet to explore many of the beautiful things in this country, or is this a country that he has yet to explore, that happens to contain many beautiful things?

Makes my head hurt.

2003-02-04 04:21:00 PM
That would be the 99 thousandth thing he unnecessarily lied about since being selected.

what a coont.

2003-02-04 04:21:18 PM
This would be a completely nothing story if the response from Bush and his aides wasn't so... well... high? I mean, jeeze, go get Ari Fleisher. Sure, his answers are clear as mud, but he's coherent.

As for the space center, when I went there a few years ago, it was pretty dull. The science center in St. Loo has more to do.

Numberz - c'mon dude. I guarantee if you travel 1/10 as many places as this guy went to, you'd start forgetting or mixing them up. Do you know how many govt buildings we have in our country, or even how many buildings NASA has?

2003-02-04 04:22:34 PM
Uh oh - Rumsfeld and Cheney must've dozed off while working his strings. How embarrassing!

2003-02-04 04:22:43 PM
Johnc98

The point here really isn't that Bush's drug-addled brain can't quite recall his travel itinery over the years. Instead it's his craven political smarm attempt to bask in the pity-glow that now surrounds NASA and Columbia. Instead of admitting that the space stuff is too hard for him to understand, he made up an association with NASA to say that he too understands their loss.

I forgot where I live, and the work day is almost over. Can anyone help me out?

2003-02-04 04:23:31 PM
Probably too busy visiting gay bath houses.

jackass

2003-02-04 04:24:29 PM
Holy crap! He can't remember 5-6 years ago?!! Who said cut him some slack? Sweet Jesus, so in that respect 5-6 years down the road he is apt to say "We went to war with Iraq? Who won?" Then again he is a great model for abstinence from too much alcohol...........

2003-02-04 04:25:04 PM
That sweat dumb fark, never ceases to amaze me. sigh.

"Fleischer dismissed suggestions that Bush had not been interested in the NASA program before the Columbia crash"

If oil is discovered on Mars, I'm sure the Bush administration would quickly become a lot more interested in NASA.

2003-02-04 04:25:50 PM

Now, I don't give a damn about bush or politics, but I love it when he says funny stuff. The poster, and most of the people in this thread didn't read the article, did they. There was no funny inside.

Seems to me that it's the White House Spokesman that said Bush visited, not Bush himself. Post something FUNNY next time, or maybe amusing, or boobies.

"A day after telling reporters that Bush had visited Johnson Space Center while serving as governor of Texas in the 1990s, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer backpedaled from that assertion"

2003-02-04 04:26:37 PM
I bet he'd remember if he had boned an intern or two...

2003-02-04 04:27:06 PM
Bush's speech today was pretty disgraceful. He didn't know those people, and yet he tried to make it sound as if they were his good friends. All their real friends and family there, who had actually known them, had to listen to his stolen recollections. It's kind of like having your secretary write a eulogy.

2003-02-04 04:28:17 PM
my friend said this earlier this week...

Bush is like Kermit the frog.. he's got a bunch of hands up his ass...

or something like that.

vote for ME!!!!

2003-02-04 04:28:42 PM
He does have a lot of engagements but I'd have thought he'd have remembered this one; however sometimes people just forget stuff. Doesn't make him a moron.

Sadly it also does not take away the plethora of other pieces of evidence that he's a moron.

2003-02-04 04:29:00 PM
As long as he's sure of the definition of "is" is, he's alright with me.

2003-02-04 04:29:12 PM
Whether he was there or not, he's still a space cadet.

2003-02-04 04:30:28 PM
If I'm not mistaken, nobody gave a shiat until Columbia exploded

2003-02-04 04:30:33 PM
I think Bush's brain is murky.

But we all know that getting a blowjob is a lot worse than ruining the country, like Bush is.

I swear, you people need to get laid.

2003-02-04 04:30:57 PM
Hey, I live in Houston and I still haven't been there.

No, wait, I think I have. Sheesh, I can't remember exactly, it's somewhat murky.

That's called a eulogy. And the leader of the nation SHOULD deliver the speech. Who would you have recommended, one of their moms? You are disgraceful, not the speech. Disgraceful for poiticizing a speech that I guarantee was very well received by their families and friends.

2003-02-04 04:31:19 PM
I'm proud to say, I've been in London for a year and a half, and have drunkenly vomitted on buildings older than the United States.
What has this to do with G Dubya not only not knowing where he is, but where he's been?

Not much, I guess.

2003-02-04 04:32:06 PM
Tigger: Yes - we all forget stuff. But don't you think he should get his facts straight before opening his mouth? He knew he was going to have to come and deliver a speech. What the hell are his handlers doing, anyway?

2003-02-04 04:32:30 PM
will have to let the left have their fun with this one. the right wing jumped all over al gore during the election when al said he had been somewhere when he had not (i think it had to do with something with FEMA). payback's a hillary.

2003-02-04 04:33:06 PM
"somewhat murky"

Who's writing Fleischer's shtick now, Magic 8-ball?

Saying "d'oh" a lot?

It must be so easy to be you.
