The headline is longer than the actual article.

2009-03-23 12:01:09 PM
Ahh... shiat. A combination of skill and luck have kept him clear of most racing accidents during his career. Hope he's okay.

Velo News story - First indications are of a serious shoulder injury with possibly broken collarbone.

Are we going to try and create a thread out of just a headline, or are we hoping that the story will be expanded a little?

Not that we CAN'T go on from just one sentence, but usually we try for a little more detail.

This is the entire article. Lance Armstrong falls during race in Spain and is taken to a hospital.

What kind of moron would greenlight this link?

That is nut.

He'll be back in time for the Giro d'Italia, no problem. Certainly back in time for the TdF.

2009-03-23 01:59:02 PM
Breaking your collar bone sure sounds like it'd be a ball.

2009-03-23 02:13:04 PM
Reports indicated he was kind of testy before the race, however I guess he wasn't on the ball today and is no longer a cancer to the competition.

Figures that'd he take his ball and go home.

I hope he doesn't get the Spanish Inquisition while he's there.
Nobody expects that.

Am I in before the jokes about how he only has a single testicle?

Because those just never get old.

dillenger69: get the Spanish Inquisition

The French actually did that, and blamed it on Spain. It should have been called the French Inquisition.

2009-03-23 04:26:40 PM
It probably happened because he has a balance problem.

/subtle?

2009-03-23 04:28:05 PM
Maybe he was spooked by this unrelated bit of news and decided to "fall" it a career...

bigbadideasinaction: Maybe he was spooked by this unrelated bit of news and decided to "fall" it a career...

yeah, because doing it afterwards would make so much sense, even though they would strip him of his wins anyways... so stupid.

TMZ says broken collarbone, could keep him out of Tour de France.

2009-03-23 04:34:52 PM
he didn't have Hincapie to land on this time!

come on, Tyler Hamilton finished the TdF with a broken collar bone -- maybe the extra red blood cells helped.

//cycling fan, really.

Take illegal steroids like you do Lance and he'll be better in one month.

Dumb-Ass-Monkey: TMZ says broken collarbone, could keep him out of Tour de France.

That type of injury is common in cycling and is usually 6 to 8 weeks to recover. So a Giro attempt may be out, but TDF is likely still a go.

HOW CONVENIENT!

Saw this earlier on Leipheimers twitter. Wonder if he's crazy enough to go Tyler Hamilton and roll with it anyway. He's certainly tough enough to do it.

2009-03-23 05:53:24 PM
Huh, last week he had a hair sample taken for a drug test, this week he is out of the Tour with an injury. How about that.

I wonder if the jig was up and the last place he wants to be when the shait hits the fan is in France. Instead he will be keeping a low profile somewhere out of reach of the press.

I guess we will find out sometime this week...who is right, and who is dead.

Begin!

So, you're saying he broke his collarbone on purpose?

Allrighty then.

Yup no one could take a dive and fake an injury...nope, no way. Never been done.

this is also the 1st thing i thought of. And, probably until I see the video or an x-ray, I will think there is more to this than just what it seems.

He's joining A-rod on the 'totally not suspended for steroids island' somewhere.

But without being able to ride prep races to get into form, he would be so off the ball that he would have to be nut to think he has a chance.

American indian rodeo riders would blow a broken collar bone off and get ready for their next event.

Though in bike fall (a moderate to high velocity injury) getting a fractured clavicle can also mean plexus stretch or NV bundle injury.

World's greatest athlete, who's overcome a lot of shiat. A broken collarbone sucks.

Are you guys on crack? So he's secretly on steroids, and to cover it up he's now secretly not broken his collarbone?

armstrong is...

A. Juicer

B. narcissistic egomaniac

C. Arrogant douchebag who dumped the kids on his wife after she started to sag a bit - so he could chase 20-something poontang without the encumbrance of a 'mom' hanging around

D. All of the above

If only there were some mysterious liquid injection that helped him hear quicker. Oh wait there is, and he is very familiar with it.

You know why this completely sucks if you're a cycling fan in the US? It means that there is now zero chance that the Giro gets shown on American television.

/the rest of you can now go back to your glorified lotter...er, basketball tournament

Lance Armstrong did seem to be pretty perturbed after his drug test was taken. All too often famous athletes disappear from public eye with an injury when they are being grilled about steroid use.

Yeah, but at least Versus covers TdF and Tour of California....so it could be worse!
