Fano: The_Sponge: vodka: What the hell does that mean? Africanized honey bees are not native to anywhere, they are not a natural species. They are just a farkup created by humans being dumbasses.

Why does everything bad come from Africa?

*Ducks*

Why do you think?

I don't...it was a trollish comment somebody said back in high school, and it just seemed fitting for this thread.

EviLincoln: I wonder if he will be pretty much immune to bee stings from now on?

I would expect that resistance would usually come from gradual low-level exposure over a very long period of time. Not a single massive nearly fatal exposure.

Last summer I had the opportunity for a hike around one of the lovelier parts of Oregon, and at the edge of a particularly large trailside flower I saw a big fluffy bumblebee. Mischievously, I poked the bee right in the butt as I greeted it (am I the only person in this thread who's cool with bees?).

The bee did not move. In fact, the whole flower bobbed from my touch--the bumblebee was in the grasp of a huge green spider.

The bee was already dead when I poked it in the butt.

Tickle Mittens: Bees are nice. The ones in my garden are exceptionally fat and fuzzy. Hornets and Wasps however, they should be tortured then killed.

No... they eat a lot of bugs that we hate (new window). Although considered beneficial to agriculture, (since northern or paper wasps feed abundantly on corn earworms, armyworms, tobacco hornworms, etc. and hornets on house flies, blow flies, harmful caterpillars, etc.), it is their painful stinging ability that causes alarm and fear.

Best killer bee story I ever read was the one about the tragic death of Frank the goat: http://articles.latimes.com/2000/jul/08/news/mn-49718 "They killed some goat, a powerful old goat," Downey said Friday. "I don't know how much more killer they got to be." (yes, this is old, 2000, but the guy involved was really a character).

2009-03-23 02:41:11 AM
Why do they call them "killer bees"? 2000 stings failed to get the job done on this guy. They should be called "pussy-ass bees who think they're tough".

Sure they farked him up pretty badly, but thousands of them died and their intended victim is going to live. We should re-name them "stupid bees".

Well for one thing he'd have to get stung by about 50 of them to even notice.

He'll probably be allergic now, and the next one will kill him.

FYI:
Liz Barta, an educator at the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center.

The average person can tolerate between four and 10 bee stings per 10 pounds of body weight unless he is allergic to the insects, Barta said. In a 150-pound person, that equates to about 100 stings.

We had a woman come into the ED after a bee attack including seven stings in her mouth. Apparently they flew in when she started screaming.

Aw, man. I'm hoping for a repeat of the watermelon story. Some Farker was eating watermelon when he was a kid, and a whole swarm of bees came and started walking all over him and licking him and stuff. Who was that guy?

The little swarm we had visit our front yard a couple of years back. That's just a solid mass of bees about the size of a football. Took off the next day.

driven to quit: This makes me think of an idea. We should create a "bee grenade." It would be like a normal frag grenade but put bees/wasps inside of them instead. Have about 200 or so in them. When in combat (Works best when your enemy is inside of a building) just run up and lob one at the enemy and run. When it opens after a few seconds then those bees will fly out and attack everyone in sight. Its like a pinpoint grenade. Instead of hoping your enemy is in kill distance the bees will fly right at them even if he is several feet away. Just make sure you keep your distance as well. Also would work great for clearing a room without damaging it or even hostage rescue. We should all get on this great idea.

Too late (new window) -- One of the stories in this book is about exactly what you propose; only it was done about 2,500 years ago, for sure, and probably earlier than that.

//goes off to read it again

Spiders freak me right the fark out but I've always liked bees for some reason. Wasps don't bother me either (but I treat them with a little more respect). I dunno why that is. Maybe because I like honey.

FTA: "The man accidentally disturbed a nest of Africanized honey bees, also known as "killer bees," when he overturned a boulder while operating a backhoe, Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison said Sunday."

If they were bees they most likely wouldn't be living in the ground... many dumbasses still don't know the difference between a bee and a hornet (yellowjacket) and I suspect this guy is one of them.
