The scariest thing I can think of are old people (particularly women) be-bopping to rap music. That or old people porn.

Old people scare me period.

These folks were in their late teens and twenties when rock and roll was off and running, so perhaps things don't shock them as much as you'd expect for someone who looks old? My parents-in-law and my grandparents are in this generation. Both are online, can watch fully gory/provocative movies, and my Grandma even listens to some music her parents surely thought was delivered directly from Satan himself. Makes sense...She's about the age of Grace Slick!

One thing that amazed me a few years ago was when the planning took place for our 50th high school reunion that over half our graduating class was on the internet. We Qtips are so cool.

Of course 70's are going to be the fastest growing age group, most other age groups will have plateaued as they get near saturation point.

I remember reading something about a bill being introduced to allow illegal immigrants to collect Social Security benefits. One of my first thoughts was how we could use some more Peters to rob to pay Paul. I for one am sick of paying into a shiatty system that I have no hopes of collecting from when I get old.

Every idiot who uses the forward button for unimportant crap deserves to be cockpunched. No, I don't care if you think Obama's a secret Muslim babby killer, I don't care about your useless gas boycott, fark your "we need more time for Gawd" messages, and fark you and the pictures you send me of your fugly kids.

One of my clients is a woman in her early 70s who got her first computer about a year ago. It became necessary because her "Grannies Group" was doing most of their communicating via email, and she felt left out!

The biggest challenge was that she had never typed, so we had to start from NOTHING. (OK, the @ in the email address, hold the shift key and press 2). In the end, rewarding. She won't be a hardcore online presence, but it gets her information, so it's all good.

I just wish they would stop sending me membership applications all the time. It's not like I'm old enough to get "senior discounts" anywhere. All they want is my money at this point.

This. Last week I got the one about the $5k payout Bill Gates is giving for forwarding the email.

My mom's nearly 80. When she visits this year she says she wants me to set her up on Facebook.

torch: Those farking left-wing AARP lobby creeps have been sending me "join up" letters for 3 years.

I began getting the AARP letters in my late 40s. I tossed them in the garbage. Then I checked out their insurance rates and signed up. My kids benefit from it; I own their cars and get a better rate for them then they would if they had to get their own insurance.

I'm, kinda jealous of all of your emailing and tech-savvy grandparents. My grandma refused to even press the Stop button on the VCR when her "story" was finished. She'd sit there and watch the static til one of us young whippersnappers came to switch it off.

My mom is 74 and suffers from withdrawal if she's away from her computer too long. She didn't even want one at first; a typewriter had always been good enough for her. But when she discovered email and the Internet...fahgedaboutit. She was recently hospitalized for a few days, and as the aide (who was probably in her early 60s) was wheeling her out, my Mom said "I can't wait to get home and check my email! I feel so out of the loop!" The aide was amazed - "You know how to 'do' email?!"

Just try not paying.

Basically: Pay and shut up.

And if everyone simultaneously stopped paying, what exactly is it that you fear would happen?

Cyborg77: HELLO OLD PEOPLE!! CAN YOU HEAR ME??

This is why my father lived on the computer. After 50 years of working on big diesels, he was pretty much deaf. When I was notifying people he was gone, I found 6 different chat rooms where he was an active member. Probably missed a couple.

/he designed computers for fun
//also did assembly language programming for fun

My parents are 74 and 76, and got their first computer in 1994 (Macintosh Performa 630CD). They've only gotten one new computer since then, in 2000 (Power Mac G4). I'm pretty impressed with how well it's holding up, considering that they're now running OS X "Tiger" on it and have the latest or next-to-latest versions of all of their software. I maxed out the RAM on it a few years ago and did a processor upgrade, but it's still just a 1.5 GHz G4 w/ 2 GB of RAM.

The Performa is still hooked up, because mom loves "Lemmings", and I don't think anyone's ever ported it over to OS X.

I finally talked them away from dial-up and into a DSL connection last year, and you'd think they died and went to heaven.

My 86 year-old grandfather just got a MacBook Pro and cellular internet connection. I thought it was pretty cool introducing a newbie to Wikipedia and Google.
