I am extremely biased in either the liberal or conservative direction, and would like to express my moral outrage at either President Obama's statement or one side or the other of the fallout.

Oh, and I must use large letters so you can understand the level of my outrage.

I agree with you: I think "da pres" will be apologizing quite often in the next 4 years, if he makes it that long. Farkin' around out in the public like he has been lately and he might not make a full pull to the end.....just sayin

Am I doing it right?

Messiah and lib in the same sentence is a little too strong.

depends on how long happy hour is.......Obama is failing hard. it's like he's on a Real World interview.

This statement is a sort of litmus test for the media. We see how outraged people are over a talk radio host saying he wants Obama to fail, compared to the constant anti-Bush drum beat which occupied the media for the last eight years.

Now we see Obama make an extremely insensitive comment about one of the truly great institutions in the world and in fact insult handicapped people and instead of going after him with both barrels, the media is going to spend the next week justifying, dismissing and trying to get as far away from this misstatement as possible. Anyone who can say that Bush would have been be treated with the deference with a straight face is a very good actor or an idiot.

so you are happy that the repubs don't have plans???

What he's saying is that its' fortunate the republican's don't have a plan because the plans they have come up with over the last 30+ years are sh*t. Some things are better left alone.

Who cares?

If you honestly can't find anything else worthy of rage right now... just... wow. Everything in this country is broken, and you want to sit around talking about whether or not Obama offended someone while on Jay Leno?

Seriously?

I heard the guy who played violin in the string quartet on the Titanic missed a note during their last set, as the ship was breaking apart.

That motherfarker!

I voted against him, I think his economic plans are doomed to fail, but COME ON! I hate mandatory political correctness far more that I hate liberal ideology (though I thought they were inexorably entwined). I'd love to see him publicly say, "I'm sorry if I offended anybody, but it was just a joke." Our society really needs to rediscover it's sense of humor; you'd be hard pressed to find any ordinary citizen who hasn't made or laughed at a joke far more distasteful.

What ? Are you saying you can't compete with the libs at the outrage game ? See, this kind of surrender is just another of the many things that are wrong with modern "conservatives".

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get to work screaming and swooning over this. Go, now. go !!

I have no idea what point you're trying to make. If it's sarcasm, it's the most subtle I've ever seen. If you're trying to insult me, try again.

Well then, I'll make it simpler for you. Stop whining about what would have happened to poor old Bush and get to work ripping on Obama over this. We all feel sorry for you that you had to endure 8 years of persecution just because you were a good conservative... but it's over now. Move on with your life.

I wish I had started watching sooner to count the "err" "uhh" "umms" among the many other misspeaks. Even with the scripted questions, not as gifted of a speaker as with the pre-written teleprompted speeches. Not going to get in a flame war with any libtards, not doubting his intelligence, but this is the very reason Presidents aren't supposed to do this (attention whoring media exposure). You've already won Mr. President, now please stop campaigning and get to work.

Vangor:
Bush, I never spited until the stupidity he uttered became a reflection of the stupidity of his actions. Now, phrases such as "watch this drive," and "is our children learning," represent him not as an ineloquent speaker but a terrible leader and "decider".

That's the difference between being an idiot and a dangerous idiot. If Bush hadn't done as much damage as he did while stumbling and thrashing about through two (!) terms as president, most of us wouldn't have minded that he had the common sense of a cheese grater.

This is a thread about the President of the United States saying something really, really inappropriate. The other thread is about innocent people being detained for up to seven years at Guantanamo Bay.

Jesus Christ.

bulldg4life: I mean, even in your constant trolling, you must see the difference between talking about terrorism and ending it with a flippant comment as opposed to making a stupid ill-thought out joke about his bowling abilities.

I said this in another thread, but I'll repeat it - even a copy clerk in Kinkos or a fry cook in BK knows by his second day that it's not OK to make jokes about retarded people in front of the public. How does one get to an executive position in middle age without realizing that? Did he not think, "Hey, maybe I shouldn't say that?"

To do that on national TV, in the age of YouTube, on an appearance literally publicized around the world, strikes me as astonishingly, incredibly ... well, the pejoratives escape me.

But yeah, I'm the troll, you're the voice of gentle reason by pointing out that what the guy says when he hasn't got a Teleprompter in his face or a script to read from is irrelevant.

Most of them are funny.

The Cheney thing, who thinks that doesn't get said fairly frequently in politics.

The NYT asshole "gaffe" is funny too.

The Special Olympics thing is funny.

The reducing complex foreign policy issues to "get them to stop doing this schnit" is not funny.

Rob Anybody: Why does this thread have more posts than the Gitmo thread?

How would someone who is looking for a reason to be outraged post in a thread about detaining innocent people for an indeterminate period of time under false pretenses?

It is far far easier to make fun of the President about something that, in the end, is insignificant than it is to go in to a thread and defend the idea of imprisoning "terrorists" for years.
