SchlingFocker: Bored Horde: It's Texas. They'd execute a brain dead inmate.

Hell, if they could get the heart beating again, they'd execute a corpse.

This is true. I wonder if anyone knows the last time a Texas court found someone not to be competent to be executed.

Here in Texas, we love 'em while they're in the womb, but we can't wait to kill 'em once they're out.

What do both have in common?

Imposing your will on others. DING DING DING!

That's all this b.s. religious activism is about when you boil it down. They want to impose their will on you as a means of getting off.

And it's hardly limited to Texas (or the issue of pro-life/pro-death penalty)

This guy stabbed his family to death, ripped their hearts out and then went and told the police that God told him to do it.

What, we're supposed to keep him around for farking posterity or something? I believe that those who commit heinous crimes and don't realize it are far more dangerous than those who would calculate the same act but I firmly believe that both should be swiftly and surely excised from society like a tumor from healthy flesh.

No one is too crazy to execute.

FTFA: Thing is, it wasn't the only time Thomas had plucked out an eye. While in the Grayson County Jail five days after his arrest, Thomas plucked out his right eye. A judge subsequently ruled he was competent to stand trial.

If it didnt work the first time he did it, why did he think it would work the second time?

I bet if 'they' didn't murder some one, ya know like mutilation... riping hearts out and such, the 'they' would not be in a texas capital punishment queue.
Just a guess.

"...and said God told him to commit them."

I wonder if the south's insistance on the sanity of religious conviction has anything to do with this denial of fact...

It sucks that Texas is so gung ho about the death penalty in the first place, but I think the distinction between mentally competent and incompetent is ridiculous and probably only helps them to rationalize their killing by allowing them to say they are particular about which murderers they kill. But I find it even worse that would maintain this mental capacity rule only to circumvent it whenever they feel like it highlighting just how much of a farce the distinction really is.

/Can we please get a TEXAS tag already?

Meanwhile hospice patients who wants to die are being denied that right.

Texas is really a messed up state. It's ok to kill the insane guy, but the sane person who wants to die a few weeks early to escape the pain of illness has no choice become some politicians feel that violates their own religion.

Can we kick it out of the union please? It was on it's own at one point. I don't see why can't revert back to that.

I dunno... I think in this case it'd be an act of mercy. Christ. Some people are just going to lead tortured existences. Would you rather spend fifty years blind in a 8x8 room?

If I'm ever executed, I hope someone shoots me in the back of the head a month before my date. I'd rather just go than think about it until it made me sick and weirdly philosophical.

2009-03-20 10:11:13 AM
If the death penalty was a deterrent to crime, why are there so many on death row?

"Ma'am, we're glad to inform you that DNA evidence has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that your husband, the father of your children, is innocent. We'll revive his corpse and bring him to you directly. You might want to advise him to be rich enough to afford a good lawyer before being falsely accused again. Oh, and tell him to be white, that will help him avoid this whole execution mess in the future."

How do we know he isn't telling the truth. It wouldn't be the first time God made a request like that. Who are we to question his faith?
