Good.

2009-03-18 03:31:43 PM
God forbid she not be allowed to preach in staff meetings.

oops.

/I think the rule is inane and I think she's overreacting. The point wasn't to keep the chaplains from ever publicly saying 'God'. FTA: Alderson said it started after she asked a chaplain - not Signorelli - to say something "inspirational" and "thought-provoking" at a staff meeting. The remarks did not strike the secular tone she wanted, Alderson said. So, "I issued some guidelines."

It's their fault for asking for something inspirational and thought-provoking in a meeting without specifying. Even an atheist, drunk, video gaming geek will manage to find something inspirational that will offend other people if he/she isn't given some parameters

Well then he should use God's name ... GOD ISNT A NAME

I went in thinking "Well, that's just plain silly," and then I came out thinking "What a worthless human being."

To sum up TFA, the Chaplain is ticked off because she can't preach to the employees. She's still allowed, and encouraged, to preach and offer religious comfort to those being cared for by the hospice. Two problems here:

1) The Nancy employees who can't find the courage to tell the Chaplain "Don't preach to me, I don't care" and instead have an overarching ban placed on speech in their workplace.

2)The whining chaplain who quit her job helping people because she couldn't harass her fellow employees.

So much asinine.

That's crap. It's not utter bullshiat, since she's still allowed to talk to dying patients about God...but for a chaplain to be forbidden to talk about God in the presence of other staff is crap.

She's a chaplain. Talking about God is her job. If you ask a chaplain to speak, expect a speech about God. If you don't want a speech about God, don't ask a chaplain to speak.

Hospice = assisted suicide.

Asking a Chaplain to not use the word "God" is... sort of stupid. I don't care in what context or what "inspirational secular" meeting you're attending. You don't want to hear the G word, don't ask a Chaplain to speak, is it really THAT hard a concept?

Well, they do have a point if they are at a mandatory meeting and are basically forced to attend a sermon.

Chaplains still speak freely of the Almighty in private sessions with patients or families but, the Rev. Mirta Signorelli said: "I can't do chaplain's work if I can't say 'God' - if I'm scripted."

I thought the hospital chaplain was there to provide spiritual support and a good listening ear to patients and families. Am I missing something here?

A shocking abuse of his civil rights. But get used to this sort of thing. In Barry Obama's America, emboldened leftists will be demanding the purging of religious thought and influence from every conceivable walk of life. You'd better hope some Democrat-voting lesbian liberals don't hear you telling your kids about Noah's Ark on the bus, or you could be charged with child abuse (assuming they don't just beat you up on the spot).

From now on the chaplain is required to tell dying patients that there is no heaven or hell and that they should choose cremation unless they want to become worm food.

I've always wondered...Why when a form or something asks for "Religion" do folks who don't believe in God write "Atheist"? Why not just "none"?

It seems like labeling your lack of religion as some group you join makes it...not a religion but I dunno...a group...when the whole point is not to belong to a group when answering that category. Just seems stupid.

/would write none

So speak up at the sermon. This is avoiding personal responsibility for everyone involved in this mass of idiocy. The chaplain should be able to give inspirational speeches in a non-confrontational manner (I've yet to meet a religious authority who couldn't tailor his words to his audience), and those listening should either express their problem with the wording if they find it offensive and come to a compromise in a non-pathetic groveling manner.

Forcing everyone to either stop speaking or endure religious sermons is crap. There is plenty of middle ground.

I write "none". It's not like I really ever think about "being an atheist", I just sleep in on Sundays, and tip my brunch server with money instead of prayer cards.

Yeah, okay. Clearly god as a concept is as tangible as a medical tool. I think it's about time for this religious douchebaggery to end.
