The paper said the man, who had 32 grandchildren, had never been to see a doctor.

Yeah yeah, never seen a Dr, smoked 3 packs a day and drank a gallon of whisky every morning.

Just another unsubstantiated claim, I call bullsh t.

I read somewhere that if you can get past 80 you've already proven yourself resistant to all the regular problems that kill you at old age, from that point on you've won the battle with your genes and only have to face the environment and stupidity.

Did anyone see that really old korean woman on the news a few weeks back, it was brilliant, she stayed awaked for two days straight, and then slept for two days straight - unfortunately her birthday was on one of the sleep days, so the news guys just kinda propped her up and took pictures, and then left. it was great.

All the old paintings on the tombs,
They do the sand dance don't you know;
If they move too quick (oh whey oh),
They're falling down like a domino.

All the bazaar men by the Nile,
They got the money on a bet;
Gold crocodiles (oh whey oh),
They snap their teeth on your cigarette.

Foreign types with the hookah pipes say,
"Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh"
Walk like an Egyptian.

xane if only your theory was true
my grandpa was fine until about 88 still gardening and active in stocks & properties. He started to go senile after that and my step grandmother toook the oppurtunity to have everything of his signed over to her leaving my dad and his three siblings with practically no inheritence.He died shortly before christmas(had to travel on christmas to go to the funneral) at 91. Great grandma made about 98 and great aunt virginia supposedly 110.

from the link
The current holder of the record for the world's oldest living person is Japan's Kamato Hongo, who the Guinness World Records Web site says took the title last March at 114

if he was still alive in march, then why didn't he have that title?

Tombalom-

Not Korean, but JApanese... looked like yoda.

And just a side note: Just like the woman in South Africa, this guy said he was 122, but just like underage kids looking to buy booze, if you don't have something to back it up, people don't have to believe you.

"A South African woman who died in January, reportedly at the age of 122, had failed to claim the record for being the oldest person alive because she could not produce the necessary proof of her age, media reported. "

Also, because she was dead.

*cough*

This guy was old enough to be Strom's father!!! Yikes!!!

It doesn't sound like much when you say he's 122 and Strom is 100, but this guy was probably married with children when Strom was born.

It's kind of funny when you look at age inflation in certain cultures. Japan, for instance, is notorious for it. Researchers visited a tribe in Africa and found that their average lifespan was something like 80 or 90 years and the media ate it up. The researchers then went back 5 or 10 years later and found out everyone in the tribe claimed to be 30 years older than the last time they were there.

Basically, once you get old you can gain a lot of prestige in some cultures by being really, really old. Add in the fact that a lot of cultures haven't focused so much attention on schedules and the passing of time and suddenly people seem to live to miraculous ages.

If they DO prove that this guy was 122, holy crap! Who was the oldest person ever (proven) and how old?

Mattevil- I know your woes. My step-grandmother pulled that same shiat, except my grandfather was in a car wreck and dying, last year we had to pay her $10,000 just to get our family furniture back (which she then bashed the hell up and wrote on with magic marker before handing over) and then what family pictures we got back she had also damaged, and tried to sell at garage sale. jeebus step-grannies suck ass!

Walt...if I remember correctly the oldest substantiated persion was 117 or 118.

I admire the semicolon usage in the headline.

Guiness used to have the oldest person ever substantiated to be 120 and x days. It was some Japanese guy. Then recently I heard that was surpassed by a french lady who was 122. So the guy in this article is up there.

All I know is that if I live to be 121, I'll see the year 2100. Oops, enough talk, time to go exercise and then eat a big plate of veggies.
