Actually, since the British Airways - Boeing 777 flight that fell short of the runway due to fuel icing at Heathrow recently. But that's not funny because no one died.

Or the British Midlands flight after Lockerbie that crashed short of East Midlands airport at Kegworth where dozens of people died. But there was no fireball and no Yanks were involved, so it's not as well remembered and therefore not as funny.

Goddammit! I know I'm supposed to be offended by that, but I can't help but giggle. So wrong, so wrong, but so funny.

Didn't the Lockerbie bombing caused Pan Am to file for bankruptcy a few years later?

I blame the IRA on this one.

Pan Am was in trouble through the 1980's. (A lot of reaaaally bad managment decisions, weird aquisitions and a rep for lousy customer service) It really started to fall apart after Flight73 was hijacked in Pakistan 1986. Lockerbie just nailed the coffin shut.

I'm sorry, subby. I found your headline a bit distressing.

Mostly from the groan that welled up inside of me.
