I'll never forget not seeing him in DIE HARD.

Good night, sir, and godspeed.

2009-03-15 10:51:32 PM
Nice, Atticus.

I'm not sure Ron Silver is a 'That Guy'. I mean, I always thought of him as Ron Silver.

2009-03-15 10:52:02 PM
Maybe I am missing something here..

Ron Silver @ IMDB (new window) - No mention of Die Hard.

Alan Rickman @ IMDB (new window) Die Hard mentioned.

Perhaps people are confusing the two?

2009-03-15 10:55:01 PM
Oh no! Now only Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer will be left to biatch and moan about being on a Hollywood blacklist for their politics!

2009-03-15 10:56:18 PM
Actor Ron Silver, who won a Tony Award as a take-no-prisoners Hollywood producer in David Mamet's "Speed-the-Plow" and did a political about-face from loyal Democrat to Republican activist after the Sept. 11 attacks, died Sunday at the age of 62.

A "TINY AWARD".

Good for you Ron.

2009-03-15 10:57:09 PM
He was an excellent actor. I'll miss him.

2009-03-15 10:58:05 PM
Met him once with Tony LoBianco, was a real nice guy. Damn shame.

2009-03-15 11:04:22 PM
Sorely underused as Angelo Dundee in Ali. Solid actor, aye.

Sorry to hear this.

I always thought he played the slick coke-head "I make multi-million dollar deals for breakfast" guy. Apparently I was wrong.

/not submitter of the "Die Hard" headline.

2009-03-15 11:05:57 PM
He was the bad guy alien in The Arrival. Great movie!

RIP

2009-03-15 11:07:26 PM
He was great on the West Wing

No, apparently just one person who posted a news flash thread regarding Ron Silver's death, with a Die Hard reference in the headline. We've been setting the submitter straight on both Ron Silver & Alan Rickman.

I figured that was whom it was, and figured if I put it to rest now, early in the thread, perhaps it will die, but somethings just die hard.

/haha! I made a punny.

HIS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!!

2009-03-15 11:14:19 PM
As a note, people need to rent and watch Blue Steel. Not only is it the last time you get to see the fabulous boobies of Jamie Lee Curtis in all their glory, but Ron Silver does an amazing job of being completely batshiat insane in it.

TikiAndTorch: HIS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!!

This is the only thing that ever made me hate baseball which was not Joe Buck.

2009-03-15 11:15:31 PM
He looked kind of like Ahmed Ahmadinedjaj that dude from Iran.

2009-03-15 11:16:13 PM
"Ron, they're OUR planes now."

Probably his most famous anecdote.

2009-03-15 11:19:56 PM
By Grapthar's Hammer, he wasn't in Galaxy Quest, either.

2009-03-15 11:31:47 PM
If you haven't seen "Heat Vision & Jack," find it and watch it. He plays himself as a shadowy government agent.

DarthBrooks: By Grapthar's Hammer, he wasn't in Galaxy Quest, either.

True. But if he was..That would have been awesome.

2009-03-15 11:51:11 PM
hated his politics, but he was a damn fine actor. great on the west wing.

and as was said earlier, he was hilarious in Heat Vision & Jack.

Yes, I feel the same. Ron Silver was a great actor who was having fun and go rent or buy Blue Steel.

/rip, Mr. Silver.

2009-03-15 11:54:52 PM
Maybe the same matter occupied the same space.

2009-03-15 11:55:00 PM
I just loved him in Star Wars!

2009-03-15 11:55:19 PM
He wasn't in a lot of movies I like.

2009-03-15 11:55:24 PM
I loved him in that deleted scene from Iron Man.

/actually dug his work
//sad now

2009-03-15 11:55:37 PM
He was great in TimeCop, The Arrival and my favorite, Garbo Talks.

2009-03-15 11:55:43 PM

I always liked him in Glengarry Glen Ross and Carlito's Way.

....

Damn. Oh well, actually I'm still trying to sort out the whole Bill Pullman/Bill Paxton issue.

2009-03-15 11:56:35 PM
Very good actor, I'll miss him. Can't wrap my head around the idea of a Democrat becoming a Republican because of 9/11, but whatever. See ya around, Ron.

2009-03-15 11:56:38 PM
So Alan Rickman's smarmier clone has passed?

2009-03-15 11:56:47 PM
isn't he in that new NBC "Kings" thingy?

Ha Ha Ha, you beat me to it!!!

Because he wanted to get on that hip Dennis Miller bandwagon and Victoria Jackson was too much to resist.

2009-03-16 12:00:20 AM
He was GREAT in Timecop!

Jean-Claude Van Damme? Not so much...

/RIP, Mr. Silver

2009-03-16 12:03:31 AM
Never that impressed by him as an actor - always struck me as a
scenery chewer but also always seemed like a decent guy in interviews.

Having said that, Timecop, The Arrival and Blue Steel et al ftw.

RIP, Mr. Scenery Chewer! God's Speed and condolances to your family.

2009-03-16 12:03:59 AM
That sucks. I've just been watching (and enjoying) him in the West Wing; I had no idea he was sick.

I also had no idea that he was one of those people who lost their farking minds eight years ago.

2009-03-16 12:04:27 AM
That's a shame.

He was great in the West Wing. RIP.

Mr. Silver is joining up with a man he worked with once.

Ron Silver: You can't run forever, Jack. Not from death, not from your shadow, not from Ron Silver.

"Silver spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention, began referring to himself as a "9/11 Republican" and reregistered as an independent."

"9/11 Republican" translates to coward, if your ideas and principals can't stand in the light of day including the morning of 9/11 then they aren't the proper ideas and principals.

2009-03-16 12:07:22 AM
...and he never lived to see Scooter Libby go free.

Good night hardcore Jewish nationalist man!

2009-03-16 12:14:16 AM
I worked with both him and Jerry Lewis on Wiseguy (filmed in Vancouver). Both are extraordinary actors - Ron especially so.

I'll never forget listening to him having to do the same impassioned lines over and over and all the takes were just as good as the first one. It struck me then what it means to be a professional actor.

Jerry was remarkably good too. Not kidding.

Long time ago.

2009-03-16 12:14:16 AM
I dunno, but was that whole obit nothing more than a defense of why he was republican?

"Oooh, poor me, I was a republican in Hollywood. My friends suddenly didn't like me."

0/10

Some people change their minds after a tragic event.

There's this word called "epiphany". Maybe you should look it up(granted 9/11 wasn't commonplace or mundane, it's the point that counts)?

2009-03-16 12:19:01 AM
I liked his work, and remember him mostly as the lawyer in Reversal of Fortune. GOOD movie.

"you are either with us or against us"

While I didn't agree with his endorsement of Bush, the ability to re-evaluate based on new situations is a good thing, not bad.

"this community is not very pluralistic"

Or am I interupting your fishing expidition?
