(Chicago Sun-Times)   Chicago Cubs once again threatening to block view of Sheffield Ave. rooftop bleachers. As if an unobstructed view for the past 100 years wasn't punishment enough   (suntimes.com) divider line

Cute, but factually incorrect. Weegham Park which begame Wrigley Field did not open til 1914 for the Chicago Whales of the Federal League. So yes it has never seen a world championship.

Also factually incorrect is that the plan is just to block one building's view ... the building owned by the farkhead that is breaching his contract with the club and trying to ruin a good thing for everyone.

So... which fact are you correcting?

Marcus Aurelius: I blame greed.

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good.

Greed is right.

Greed works.

Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind.

And greed -- you mark my words -- will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.

Thank you very much

"100 years of an unobstructed view" ... presumably of Wrigley Field. Hasn't quite been 100 years.

Ah. I took that "100 years" line more as a generality, as in any unobstructed view. Works both ways, I guess.

weird thing is that it's all caused by the New Year's Blackhawks game. I think the LBC needs to STFU on this one. The Cubs didn't put the jumbotron up there...

Who, by the way, is well-qualified to represent the LBC?

I never got mess. I mean, just because those few building owners happen to have a view of the field doesn't mean they are forever entitled to continue stealing and profiting from that bit of happenstance. Screw them.

Three words. Domed Wrigley Field.

Actually, they pay now, 17 percent of the gross revenue. Wrigley Roof wiki (new window)

Anybody but me remember Schilling sitting up on the rooftop after a game?

The Cubs now endorse their "Official Rooftop Partners" on their team page at MLB.com.

Oh. The more you know, right?

It would have been more appropriate considering he pitched like a girl.

"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request: that I live long enough to watch the wrecking balls tear down Wrigley Field! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!"

I never got this whole you can't watch my stuff from your rooftop thing. Years ago I lived behind a drive-in theater and could see the screen from my backyard, no one ever came and threatened me with a lawsuit.

Hang a tarp up and be done with it if it's got your panties in such a knot.

Relocate the Cubs. They get a modern stadium with all the amenities along with faithful Cub fans. Wrigleyville becomes what it has longed to be... the worlds largest bar crawl.

Old Tiger Stadium was my favorite baseball venue. You could see players' facial expressions from the top row of the upper deck.

Tom Gramatis ultimately paid up, but only after the Cubs agreed to accept an undisclosed flat fee from his Ivy League Baseball Club to compensate for the bleacher expansion.

Just, uh, either that's twenty-seven flavors of farked up, or a copy editor is in need of a new job.

(Thought I posted this comment already, but as I see it neither in the thread nor in my list of most recent posts...)

This is all the work of the curse...the right field curse....the right field curse of Sammy Sosa's mysteriously disappearing testicles and brain cells!Wooooooooooooooooooooo!! Wooooooooooooooo!!!!!!(Next thing you know they'll lock up Ronnie Woo Woo for vagrancy.....Is there no shame????? Wait. Major league baseball in Tampa Bay. In Toronto. In St. Louis. There IS no shame). Weep. Sob.

moefuggenbrew: the clippers of baseball

Except that every game is sold out from Day 1 and that nearly the whole city follows them religiously, and that, despite the lack of a championship, they are considered one of the premier franchises in all of sports.

Other than that, yep, exactly like the Clippers.
