In North Korea, if you say so much as one negative word about Kim Jong-Il, Kim Il-Sung, or the government, you go to a labor camp for the rest of your life. Without going into too much detail, some of what goes on in these camps makes Auschwitz look like a child's birthday party in comparison.

I sort of doubt anybody is going to vote against him.

heard about this election this morning (which is a friggin piss-poor indictment of US media in general, but that is prolly another thread). I said to the missus that I expected a 99.9% result. Guess Kim needed to step it up just that little extra.

Meanwhile, this undemocratic hereditary dictatorship actually has nukes.

And we invaded Iraq? Yeah, good one, Bush, you freaking dispshiat.

Really, the people who voted for Kim had more sense than you moran pricks that voted for Bush.

When I was a kid, my dad had a rule. We'd vote on everything. He just had one more vote than everyone else put together.

2009-03-09 06:49:14 AM
I'm surprised he only got 100% of the vote.

2009-03-09 07:47:49 AM
Something about telling us he was hardcore...

Archie Goodwin: I'm surprised he only got 100% of the vote.

Yeah he's slipping, last election he had 128%. He is barely hanging on to his majority now.

Vote or Die.

2009-03-09 07:49:53 AM
In an unsurprising result Kim was re-elected by voters in Constituency 333 with 100 per cent support, the official KCNA news agency said on Monday.

Demographic of the demidevil?

Well, that or he's just a very popular candidate. Why such are you such a negative nelly?

Ok, Bush is gone guys....let it go.....
This is like when a movie comes out and they play the theme song on the radio every 30 minutes for about 6 months. It's old, it's done, your comments are only annoying. There is no more change that they will do.
Thank you, that is all.

Ah yes, I was thinking of submitting this on fark as well, but I thought fark never really covered real news so I didn't. The other article where north korea would declare war on the US seemed more interesting.

Too_much_fail

To forget the past is to condemn ourselves to repeating it.

Not saying "you freakin' dipshiat" is the best of comments, even though I agree with it. But I hear a lot of people talking about how Bush is gone, and now we need to look to the future. Our future as a country is determined by Bush's actions now, and to forget him or block him out of our minds is stupid and self-ignorant.

Reminding ourselves may not change anything, and it might be annoying to some, but it would be very wise to remember past mistakes, so that we may avoid them in the future.

/sorry about the rant.

Not only did he just get 100% of the vote, he also shot 18 on his last round of golf!

Nice display of ignorance of the Korean war and North Korean oppression.
You'd be crying that Gore didn't invade Saddam in Iraq if you got your wish.

None of the recent developments w/ Kim Jong-il are anything new. Their tactical missile and nuclear capabilities are, while far from revolutionary, old news. They have had these capabilities but have known better then to let it be known. Only now that America is led by Barack Obama is the political climate safe enough to flat out display their power with no fear of reprise.

2009-03-09 08:23:15 AM
Little is known about Jong-un's background or experience, although he is thought to have been named as a candidate in Sunday's election.

Ah. So...two shots to the dome for him then?

You're talking to a history buff, so your lesson is not needed. But you might as well say we should be constantly reminding ourselves of all the mistakes of our past, including sending as many Native Americans to Oklahoma, starting the War of 1812 with about as much foresight as Vietnam or Iraq II, therefore having the first of the "pointless" wars as some keep calling them.
It's one thing to remember the past. It's another to carry on about it like your biatching will actually change anything, or expecting anyone to care anymore.
President Bush was once my President. He's obviously not well liked. But I took orders from him, just like I do from President Obama now. I'm sure Obama will have his moments too, I'm just hoping there are fewer of them.

/ok, now MY rant is over, carry on.

Kim Jong Il once used a live rattle snake as a condom.

Kim Jong Il drives an ice cream truck covered in human skulls.

Kim Jong Il's poop is considered currency in Argentina.

Kim Jong Il sleeps eight hours a night. Well, I guess that's pretty normal...

President Reagan once joked that even if the Soviet Union permitted an opposition party to form, it would still be a one-party system. Because everyone would join the other party. I think the same logic applies here. It's shameful that pockets of totalitarianism still exist, and scary that North Korea has starving people who live under an external information blackout and nuclear weapons capabilities.

Plus: everyone that has ever been put in jail, or has been committed, has found themselves under lock and key for something that did in the past.

Considering that voting against Kim Jong-Il is a death sentence but voting for Bush in the 2004 election wasn't coerced but was an amazingly bad decision, I'd be tempted to support And-1 in his assertion that the North Korean voters had more sense than half the US voters in 2004. They, at least, voted for self preservation.

Is he still alive? He can win as many elections as he wants but when he sheds his mortal coil, he's done.

According to TFA this is all to prepare for his son to take over. I wonder if he's going to suffer from the same amount of megalomania as his father...

And-1: Meanwhile, this undemocratic hereditary dictatorship actually has nukes.

Barely. We have conventional explosive more powerful than their "nukes". Honestly, I was talking to my cousin's husband who works with nuclear reactors for the navy, and apparently it's generally considered a fluke that they even got a detonation out of that thing. Not to mention the fact that it wasn't even the first try.

Still, they have a demonstrable nuclear program and a history of making threats against their neighbors. I think if anyone would be at the top of the list for "spreading democracy" it would have been N Korea. But then they don't have oil and didn't figure heavily in the PNAC policy for regime change back in the 90s.
