Agreed.

Weird thing about "the scream" - given the rage I was feeling at the time, I found it too subdued.

It was funny four years ago perhaps.

They wrote a good comic (new window) about it though.

Dear America,

I worked for the Mainstream Media in 2004, when Governor Dean was running for President. He made a rousing speech with an inspiring ending. We severely edited it and only played a brief clip, not from the podium microphones, but from a single reporter in the crowd with a small, overloaded, handheld recorder. Further, we messed around with the audio, normalizing it and then compressing it, in such a way as to clip the signal such that the Governor sounded distorted and inhuman. Then we lampooned him for it.
We then shorted our stock.
You're welcome.

Sincerely,
-Sipping Margaritas from your Mom's Bellybutton

The funny thing about the scream is that nobody in the room heard it. His mistake was screaming into a noise-canceling mic that made the recorded scream disproportionate to the noise in the room.

/still funny

I never understood why the Scream was such a big deal. The guy was excited to be in the race, he showed enthusiasm. How did it make him look bad and why did the MSM tear him down for it?

FTFA: CNN medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta Thursday withdrew his name from consideration for the post to focus more on his family and career as a surgeon.

This is a joke, right?

He lost in the Iowa caucus that night, he had been expected to trounce all others IIRC.

Why? Gupta would have been the most recognizable and effective S.G. since C. Everett Coop. Remember, S.G. is a communications and advocacy position more than anything else.

Aside from his bias against universal health coverage, he'd be perfect for the job. Sadly, he's more interested in money than helping the country. It was pretty well spelled out that he declined because he didn't want the pay cut.

The scream is an example of the media casually destroying someone because they could. It was a miracle it didn't happen to Obama. Both Obama and Dean, and Ron Paul for that matter, went outside the normal bounds of fundraising and I think the media punished them. Obama less than the other two.

The Dean Scream, if you don't isolate his microphone, is almost drowned out by the crowd. He was literally having to scream over his audience to be heard. Cutting down the crowd noise makes it sound weird.

HHS has plenty of doctors. What they need is a bureaucrat who can navigate the political arena and be an advocate for increased funding as well as provide incentive for positive results. Sibelius should be great.

Full disclosure: As a federal contractor, my paycheck (i.e., the contract) is ultimately controlled by the head of HHS. I love you, Governor Sibelius!

Well, snark aside, head of the DNC is a "real" job. And Dean did it really well. The Republicans should be so lucky to have a guy like this right now. Instead they have Jindal... and Limbaugh... and bears OH MY!

He's okay. Not overly charismatic, but Dean's shoes are pretty big to fill. I think the last few years have shown that a strong and calculating leader can do more for the DNC than a "people person".

You don't have to hate the 2nd Amendment to be DNC chair. I like all of the Amendments, personally.

If that isn't what you're talking about, I'm not sure what you mean by DINO.

Do you mean Kaine or Dean? I don't want to have to write two responses. If it is Kaine he is truly only a Dem in name only. Dean is a Dem with some conservative views.

Dean. I mean, I know why you think Kaine has conservative tendencies - I get that. I agree with many of Kaine's conservative views to be honest, except he's probably only for civil partnerships, while I support full marriage rights.

But Dean? He's a liberal through and through, or so I thought. I'm interested in your thoughts.

And why the issue with "writing two responses"? Is Fark Lite charging by the word now?

They have to be. Obama owns the mailing list for those millions of voters, and he isn't giving it up to the Party. Good for him, I say.

I may be unfair to Dean. He is a typical plains state dem. Not liberal at all. Perhaps not Republican, either. Kaine is a Republican.

That's a pretty good, if short, description of the man. The only people who ever characterized him as a left coast liberal were the goddam batshiat insane Republicans. He's pretty much in the middle and true to Democratic party ideals.

There isn't. If there were, Obama would have had Dean replaced around the time of the Democratic Convention, as usual. Instead, Dean stayed on until the Election. Then I would imagine he probably relaxed a bit since he'd been pretty damn busy for the past several years.

Cheney/Rove/Skull&Bones/Bilderbergers/Illuminati were afraid that Dean might actually beat Bush, so the word went out to the media pukes to humiliate Dean and put the compliant puppet Kerry in his place.

(Tin foil or truth? We report, you decide.)
