I thought the headline was snark. But, no, it's accurate. And hilarious.

thyocyan: Crime fighting advice in Philly?

Yeah, compared to that, finding out where the good donuts are is actually pretty good.

The article doesn't make sense. It says they took them to get the best donuts but the picture shows them outside Dunkin Donuts.

2009-03-04 06:32:28 AM
Wouldn't that be fairly useless once they return back to England where they lack the same stores?

zez: Dunkin Donuts.

Must have been the "compare and contrast" portion of the lesson.

Next lesson, how to get killed on duty.

They have Dunkin Donuts in the uk (as far as I remember) though it's naturally called Dunking Doughnuts, peasants!

Yea right subby. I'll only believe your headline when pigs fly.

How *dare* cops start their day off with coffee!

Good to see that fark doesn't perpetrate stereotypes.

I would think the Brits would be the ones giving us advice.

I never understood why we use "donut" and not "doughnut". For some damn reason, I always want to pronounce it "doo-nut." English is a screwy language!

/Dönuts?

Off topic from donuts, but....

Visiting cops in Philly and they didn't go to Geno's steaks? Oh, wait, they wouldn't have been served because they don't speak American.

/hate that nasty SOB, his weird cop fetish, and his crappy cheese steaks.

I just read this as though Clarkson was saying it himself. It sounds hilarious in my head.

Also, whose idea was it to start the Brits in Philly? Bringing back a few bad memories, no?

No Philly Cop Jokes. 6 have been killed in the line of duty in the past year. The last one being two weeks ago, 25 with a pregnant wife.

Why would anyone *choose* to go to Geno's? Tony Luke's and Jim's are far superior.

/lives near Pat's and Geno's, sick of tourists who can't drive.

Well, I've certainly never felt unsafe in 30th St Station, and I'm through there quite a bit. Recently, I saw an obviously homeless and demented man (rare to see inside the station) try to walk down a stairwell past an armed guard. The guard was pretty nice to the guy, but I supposed when you're armed to the teeth, you can be nice and still get your way. It took some discussion, but the guard finally got the skeevy guy to go back up the stairs and away from the tracks.

I'm not aware of any actual bomb or terroristic threats against that station, but I did notice the armed guards appearing a while back. They're a relatively new thing.

I know it's an old Dennis Leary joke, but all the Dunkin Donuts around where I'm at barely even serve donuts at all any more. The coffee was always a big thing, granted. But now the donuts are being pushed off to the side bit by bit, in favor of egg-white-sawdust-flatbread sandwiches, and mocha-hazelnut-tibetan-yak's-milk-lattes or other such nonsense. Most Dunkin's don't even make their own donuts on premises any more. They get a delivery in the morning, then (if they're lucky it seems) a delivery in the afternoon. Once they're out of donuts, they're out! Fini! Threadbare! Shiny at the elbows!

Oh well... I will admit, though, that their waffle & egg sandwiches do look good. But there's still no substitute for a glazed chocolate and a cup of mud... Mmmmmmmm...

(Don't get me started about Newbury Comics)

Gen. Apathy: I would think the Brits would be the ones giving us advice.

Thats what I was thinking.

It's not a snark or anything, it's just that the British Transport Police have been doing anti-terror activities in train stations and the like since the 80's or earlier due to the IRA.

For instance, there have been no opaque bins on railway concourses for about 15 years in the UK, clear plastic sacks suspended from a simple metal ring only. That way no one can drop a "device" into them without it being noticed.

I met a guy recently who was a cop in Toronto. When he was first being trained he was sent to Niagara Falls for some sort of exchange program that was part of his training.

He said all the cop he was partnered with did was go around to each local coffee shop or pizza joint and shake them down for free food all day.

My uncle is a retired Philly cop and that is the only reason he was a cop. Utterly disgusting.

philly cops raided the club down the street from my north philly apartment last weekend. we noticed the first cop lights while playing poker. then 2, 3 more cars arrived, and we decided to adjourn to the roof to see if we could see anything going on. On short order, 3 swat vans and about 15-20 more squad cars arrived, including temple university cops.

moral of the story is, philly cops are tired of being shot while on duty and are NOT MESSING AROUND anymore

/why yes I do live in the ghetto
