Will it take place in Shermer, IL?

2009-03-02 05:46:28 PM
Yeah, except Ghostbusters was produced and directed by Ivan Reitman.

2009-03-02 05:55:27 PM
No, John Hughes mostly liked doing movies about people in their teens. Apatow likes doing movies about his own generation. And as a member of that generation, I think he does a good job.

Ghostbusters 1 was one of the best sci-fi movies of the 80's. Ghostbusters 2 was pretty good for a sequel. I only hope Akroyd and Ramis put some elbow grease into the GB3 script.

I think there's one thing we can all agree upon.
This sequel will have Slimer in it.
And god willing Ecto-cooler and Ghostbusters cereal will be sold
long enough to obtain a lifetime supply.

Forgiving the fact that we have ten months to go in 2009, I'm calling that the post of the year.

Congratulations, you magnificent bastard.

Judd farking Apatow, this generation's "John Hughes?!" John Hughes wrote Ferris Bueller in like a week, and wrote, produced and directed mostly all of his movies.

He had a FOURTEEN movie streak of funny movies till "Home Alone," and pretty much defined humor for a whole generation.

Judd Apatow has only written THREE movies worth half a crap, and the ONLY thing that gives he ANY street cred in my book was that he produced "The Ben Stiller Show."

Oh my god, I'm getting nostalgic.

I love Ecto Cooler. Jesus christ, Hi-C was awesome in the first place, and they don't even sell it in stores anymore. The only damn juice boxes I see are Gatorade, and who the hell wants to buy Gatorade in a box?

When Apatow writes something as funny as Mr. Mom or the first Vacation movie or directs something as well as Hughes did Planes, Trains and Automobiles or Ferris Beuller, we'll talk about comparing the two.

I like Apatow's films thus far, but there's no comparison between the two.

It's hard to imagine just how hard that movie would suck.

Seriously. I just don't get the Apatow love. Knocked up was mediocre. Same with Superbad (it pains me to say that too, because I like Michael Cera). At least 40 year old virgin was good.

From the list you gave he hasn't written a movie with humor in it has he? Just dick and fart jokes?

come on now... I don't even consider John Hughes a comic director. When i think of him, the first thing i think of is pained Judd Nelson and pained Allie Sheedy being all pained out back before Goth came into vogue. Yes, there's humor there, but i much more attribute my humor sensibilites to the Zuckers.

Surely a Zucker fan could appreciate the balls-out absurdist humor of Weird Science.

(Hughes did a wide range of things)

Director:

1. Curly Sue (1991)

2. Uncle Buck (1989)
3. She's Having a Baby (1988)
4. Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
5. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
6. Weird Science (1985)
7. The Breakfast Club (1985)
8. Sixteen Candles (1984)

It is, but I highlighted these because they are the films he had the most creative control of. I'd watch any of them again. And Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller and Weird Science are all **** comedies in my book.

I guess that's fair since he fought in a hybrid of all styles. Not exclusively kung fu. Back to Ghostbusters.

All of you are sad Ghostbusters fans. Ivan Reitman did not direct Ghostbusters. It was David Crane. Jeffrey Tunnell did the second one. It doesn't even matter. As long as Harold Ramis (one of the best directors of any time period) is writing the script along with Akroyd and hopefully Murray, the film will be great.

Can't believe the fail in this thread. Ghostbusters fans you are not!
