There's a joke here....

...something about "when your ideas are written about and championed by a 13-year-old, maybe they need some tweaking."

2009-02-27 06:00:40 PM
Humorous story moment: Back when I was doing door to door campaigning for Obama, I hit upon a nice home with a big red truck with a Jesus Fish bumper sticker and American Flag decal in the back window, but figured, eh, gotta hit every house.

So I knock, this kid answers the door - probably 10 years old, looks exactly like that dude in the video - sees my clipboard and DNC tshirt, looks up at my and says "Sorry, this is a Republican household, you're not welcome here" and closes the door.

So basically I just want to say to the parents of that kid, and the parents of the one in this video: WHAT THE fark?

2009-02-27 06:06:46 PM
My 13-year-old brother is probably like this kid. I can't watch the video as I'm at work, but here's an example that still angers me to think of it:

Timeframe: 2004 Elections
Him: Who are you voting for?
Me: I guess Kerry
Him: Kerry's Catholic
Me: *pause* ...so?
Him: And Bush is a Christian
Me: *pause again as I decide which way to take this conversation: "So's the KKK" and "What does that have to do with anything?" I decide on the latter.
Him: Well Christian's are better than Catholics
Me: *facepalm* Okay you know what? You're in elementary school and have absolutely no grasp on politics or how the political system even works, so I'm going to just end this conversation now. Here, look, Spongebob is on.

The only thing I can say in his defense is I remember being a little kid and espousing the greatness of whoever our president was at the time without knowing wtf I was talking about. I guess it's good for a kid to care, but at the same time... you're a damn kid! Shut up!

2009-02-27 06:14:52 PM
Wow. I hate that kid. Notice how he threw in the principle of 'respect for life' as a pillar of conservatism? That's basically in there to justify a single policy position against abortion. It has no other bearing on their political philosophy.

This is a joke ... right?

Besides all of that Catholics are Christians too. Why is this so difficult?
At least your brother has an excuse: He's 13. What about the thousands who argue similarly who are much much older?

2009-02-27 06:23:55 PM
Look, kid, you can preach to me about how to live my life when you have actually lived some of yours. Maybe after you have actually had sex. Get back to me in 7-10 years when you finally break down and buy a hooker.

Catholics are the original christians (well, that and the Eastern Orthodox). If you think "Catholicism isn't christianity", then somewhere, JC is laughing at you.

So..this kid wrote a book on politics at age 13?

It's probably a step up from Coulter's latest Whrrgrblll.

2009-02-27 06:47:43 PM
I actually like three of his four points there. Now if only the "Conservative" party would actually embody those points, we might have something.

I'm not holding my breath.

Which point did you not like?

O'Reilly has a kids book.

And besides, I've seen worse. I met my best friend's SO's family (yeah, I know) and the guy's ~12 year old brother reads Drudge like it is the AP and treats it as gospel. Wanted to hurt him so very bad.

That is awfully hilarious.

DamnYankees: Which point did you not like?

I didn't like the 'respect for life' thing. Gets the right to lifers and fundies all riled up . I don't think that there are nearly enough abortions performed.

2009-02-27 07:04:25 PM
I don't trust kids in suits.

2009-02-27 07:14:20 PM
Yeah... on second thought, when I was in college I was an asshole with stupid political views and an absolute surety that I was correct.

That's how teenagers are. I actually give this kid credit for being involved in politics at such a young age.

/it's not so cute in your twenties.

2009-02-27 07:16:11 PM
So, we're picking on a thirteen-year-old kid now. Classy, guys, real classy.

Kid chooses to give a speech at a national political conference. We're not supposed to comment? He's not a prop.

At least we know what one looks like and that they're actually 13.

Here at Fark, it's harder to tell.

Brainwashing your kids:

It's not just for Religion anymore....

More like the "respect for life" bullshiat.

They sure "respect" the lives of all the people killed or displaced in Afghanistan/Iraq.

It's really going to be hard for him when he comes to terms with his sexuality.

Reminds me of Jesus Camp. That's the scariest horror film I've ever seen.

Interesting that liberals are targeting a 13 year old child. If any of you want to debate with the rest of the adults, just let us know.

Heh. Whatever helps you feel like a man about it. I mean, I always considered this the short bus of intellectual political discourse, but this is a new low, even for the politics thread troglodytes around here. Meh. I'm going to order Chinese and watch "Top Chef." Maybe I'll come back later and we can pick on some paraplegics.

He's a kid who's just parroting what his parents tell him. There are Lib kids who would do the same thing. Leave him be.

Their fake legs are not props.

2009-02-27 07:29:01 PM
Yes, but can he make grown men slobber all over themselves praising a guy who obviously is in over his head so far its laughable. The kid made sense, but the slobbering sheep want free cars and homes paid for in magical unicorn dollars.

2009-02-27 07:29:05 PM
I was a lot like that kid. I campaigned for Nixon at about his age.

Then I grew up.

Nabb1: So, we're picking on a thirteen-year-old kid now. Classy, guys, real classy.

A kid speaking at the same convention as another speaker advocating the beating of Congressmen. A kid speaking at the same convention as others throwing around epithets and bigoted statements. A kid speaking at the same convention as a Congresswoman telling the head of the RNC, "You Be Da Man!"

It's not our fault that the Republican party is doing these things. If the kid doesn't want to be judged, then he shouldn't be put in the position to do so. We're not responsible for his actions.

These people are willingly associating with this bullshiat. They should be noted for doing so.

It's like Joe the Plumber all over again, the media just goes and hunts down private citizens who are minding their own business and not even trying to be in the public eye.

Politics is like religion; you shouldn't be committing to a "side" until you're at the age of reason. 13 years old ain't it. He might as well be wearing a baseball cap that says "GOP". The tragedy here is that, at such a young age, he's aligning himself to this group and all its sometimes arbitrary, contradictory and hypocritical principles, assembled by various political party marketers over the years who just wanted to attract more voters. Example: what does abortion have to do with fiscal responsibility? Why are these necessarily grouped together under one party heading? Isn't environmental protection "conservative" policy? Doesn't capital punishment and gun control contradictory to the tenets of Christianity? Isn't freedom to smoke pot, like the freedom to drink alcohol, a personal freedom that the government should stay out of? Etc. A lot of Americans seem duped at a young age that they have to agree to one "side" and convince themselves that all these tenets belong under one heading and they should abide by them all. Ergo, he's been played by professional marketers, is talking to the public like he understands what's best for country, and should be laughed at.
