'It is not nice to look back on Facebook and report something that is personal. It should not be allowed.'

So, people still think what they post on a publicly accessible forum is somehow private?

WANTED: One strong troll to argue that this was a First Amendment violation, without regard as to which country this occurred or that the First Amendment doesn't actually protect you from anyone other than the government.

I learned a long time ago never to make something like public.

That is some serious butthurt on the part of the management.

Most people find their jobs boring. If they come in and do their work well, it doesn't matter to rational bosses.

SchlingFocker: If they come in and do their work well, it doesn't matter to rational bosses.

If management thought this girl was already being a distraction to her co-workers after three weeks, why shouldn't they just start clean with someone new? It's not like a 16 year old girl would be tough to replace.

I'd sack her

She has the "right" to post what she wants on Facebook. She exercised that right.

They have the "right" to fire her for it. They exercised that right.

All is well in the universe.

Actually, I retract my comments.

I didn't read that far into the article. Yes, they were correct in firing her.

Never once did I say that they didn't have the right to fire her.

Please, show me where I contested their right to fire her.

You can't. So don't put words in my mouth.

Just because snooping on personal conversations is possible these days, it doesn't make it healthy.

That's true, there's no good reason for an employer to read anything that doesn't directly impact on your work or their business.

Miss Swan made comments about...the company...and then invited other staff members to read her comments.

Oh...

Try to make sure your co-workers do not friend you on Facebook, people! I have a few but they are drunker than I usually am so it's not a big deal.

Fire someone for saying their job is boring? While its indeed legitimate that he read the page and fired her, what kinda jerk do you have to be to fire someone for thinking their job is boring (or even posting about it.) News flash employers of the world, menial jobs are boring! You gotta have a pretty big ego to think YOUR companies menial office jobs are exciting.

2009-02-26 12:42:37 PM
I just ignored a Facebook request from the owner of my company. I just can't let that happen.

Her Facebook profile picture looks like every profile picture of a 16 year old girl on Facebook. They all make that face.

FTA: 'He called me into the office and said "I have seen your comments on Facebook and I don't want my company being in the news." They said it was not good for the company,'

So, yeah, that plan worked out really well.

What's next genius?

2009-02-26 12:44:36 PM
I'd sack her in every way concievable.

2009-02-26 12:44:49 PM
Someone should ask her former boss what he is doing surfing Facebook while at work (yes I realize she was too).
She should have said "so you search for 16-year-olds on Facebook often?

2009-02-26 12:44:52 PM
I was told when I was hired my job was boring. That's why I took it. I love my boring job.

Hahahahahahaha. Welcome to the news, buddy! You're an idiot. That girl you fired is an idiot. She's obviously a great match for the collection of idiots you've got going.

Maybe he fired her because he was worried about her being able to do things like alphabetizing files, what with her obvious illiteracy.

/how does i shred holepunch?

"I have seen your comments on Facebook and I don't want my company being in the news."

Whoops.

2009-02-26 12:47:10 PM
She had every right to post it, and the boss had every right to fire her.

That being said, her boss really ought to STFU and mind his own business. Talk about being sensitive and having thin skin. It's a wonder this fellow is in business if he can't take a comment about the work atmosphere at his business from a 16 year-old ditz.

It's shiat like that this which makes me glad I don't work in the private sector for morans like this guy- type A brain, no personality, probably low profit margins, and can't take criticism from one of his employees.

And good on the girl. She expresses her opinion, gets fired from a shiatty job, brings attention to the owner, and learns that a minimum wage job (or close to it), much like any other job, IS NOT serious business.

One more marginally literate textspeak fluff gets bit on the ass telling 30 million internet users stuff she should keep to herself.

She's a dipwad, her boss is a schmuck and I hope they both end up trading food coupons for smokes.
