Doctors could always be roused from a theater by an usher, etc...
Yes, because if you've been to a theater lately you know they have a knowledgable and professional staff of lovely red-suited ushers, and all your plan would entail would be doctors calling anyone who might need them before they go to a movie and telling them the theater name and screen number.

(ahem).

As my uncle is the town priest of Qatar, I must say that this has grieved both of us.

B0rg9: The manufacturer recommends targeting the cell phone and not the user, unless the user is attempting to use said cell phone while driving, in which case you may go to town, starting with the extremities.

"Q. I am a hotel proprietor. I may be interested in installing Wave-Shield in each of the rooms in my hotel as I would like to get my guests to use the normal phone service we provide. How many Wave-Shields do I need to use per room?

A. One Wave-Shield per room is usually more than adequate. However, depending on the building work you may need two if there is an en-suite bathroom. We are supplying an increasing number of Wave-Shields to hotels all over the world because they are a clever way for the hotel to boost extra telephone usage revenue. Also, because our hotel orders are usually in bulk we can offer very good discounts"
From the Faq on the UK jammer...thats farking annoying.

I would use it to bonk jack booted fascists like TotallyFarkedDude in the head.

Rutir - that's really farked up!

While I was there, I also noticed this gem in the FAQ.
"Q. If Wave-Shield uses 12V, why do you supply a 9V adapter?

A. Wave-Shield's AC adapter is rated 9V and 300mA. This adapter actually sends 12V into Wave-Shield because the jammer works on only 200 mA. "
For non-technical types: this is so wrong that it's laughable.

Now if they can only do the same for EVERY. SINGLE. ROAD. ON. THE. PLANET.

When I mentioned "dual use" I didn't know they had such short range.

But I do believe there are enough people (Americans, in particular) that depend on cell phones that this type of thing could be harmful if used against them. Who's to say that the range can be increased by the flip of a switch or a new antenna or something? And why wouldn't it work on other radio communications? (I'm not very technical so pardon me if there is an obvious answer to that one).

Remember the little boat that took out the Cole? Before that incident they weren't such a big deal. And that was in a "friendly" port, too.

i want one of these to stick in my mothers car... the cell phone was the worst thing she has ever gotten... scared to be in the same car... she kind of should have one, as she is a doctor... but not in the car!

It's moments like this that I fret about the fate of American freedom. Everyone here wishes they could control the habits of everyone around them to create this wonderful little convenience bubble. "Oh, don't inconvenience me with your existence, I'm on my way home to watch American Idol."
Hey, listen. If I have to put up with your bad fashion sense, your bad driving, your constant shallow drivel that passes for conversation, your gratuitous exploitative use of the stars and stripes all over your bad choice in automobiles, your whining, your sense of playah/diva entitlement, your f*cking loud, annoying brat spawn, and your jesus fish being eaten by a darwin fish being eaten by a jesus fish ad f*cking nauseum...

Then God damn it, YOU CAN PUT UP WITH MY CIGARETTE SMOKE!!!

Wait, what were we talking about again?

2003-01-30 09:11:36 PM
And they also imported a 100' diameter dish for, um, giant mosque block parties.

2003-01-30 09:13:02 PM
dingdong, that's a post suitable for framing.

2003-01-30 09:17:50 PM
i must admit, i'd rather put up with a cell phone ring, then an idiot smoker who is killing me

2003-01-30 09:20:37 PM
let them be legal in the states!
all you whiners out there saying "oh my god! what about an emergency" WTF did we do before the cell phone? it was dealt with as it came. i see no reason to ban jammers from some public and private establishments.

can you hear me now

2003-01-30 09:20:52 PM
let the miscreant who recieves a phone call during prayers or at the mosque have the hand which hold the cellphone cut off as well as the ear which it is held to.

praise be to allah.

WTF did we do before the cell phone?
If I hear this lame argument one more time, I'm going to club this baby seal.

Cars do more than just annoy people, they kill them. And we did fine before them, right? So lets just ban them.

We also did fine before television, penicillin, the printing press, and wired phones for that matter. It's called progress.

"Well, considering that we have all those troops nearby, most of which, have cell phones, and the entire population of Qatar probably has a sum total of 5, I think the "primary use" is obvious."

Qatar probably has more cellphones than in America. America has the oldest and crappiest models of cell phones (they're so TWO years ago). And your cellular services cost too much compared to service in the Middle East and Asia. Cell phone service is cheaper than land line service overseas. Rich-a$s Qatari oil execs. If only we had oil in Lebanon :)

hey Micah this thread is about cell phones and their annoyance in regards to unwanted social disruption. cars, t.v., penicillin, the printing press, and wired phones are either irrelevant or so engrained into our culture that they are neccesary for productivity. cell phone comminication has not reached that level. jamming cell phones under certain guidelines would not in general distract from someones standard of living.

Oh my this was a shameful attempt at justifying yourself. Oh my how television has harmed me! And that penicillin, it didnt do shiat for anybody in the early part of this past century now did it? Printing press? Oh my god, are you farking serious? Wired Phones? In your own home biatch.

Cell phones do serve a useful purpose but not in all instances. I can bet you my life that more trouble has come out of cell phones than out of penicillin, tv, or the freaking printing press. A cell phone being commonplace just further serves a drive thru society.

Remember when they were actually CALLED "Car phones?" Werid. Anyway, I was in the smoking section of a local chinese food restaurant. I finished my meal and was about to light up but I noticed that the family sitting next to me just looked like the type of people who didn't like smoke. I politely asked the people if they would mind if I smoked and they said "Of course not, but it was very nice of you to ask! If it gets too bad we can move." My response was "well if it gets too bad, just let me know and I will put it out." In the back of my head I was thinking "I just gave smokers everywhere a good name!" Then my cell phone rang and they got all upset and started talking about how annoying it is to have to listen to cell phones ring (amongst themselves, not to me) and I just thought...man...the cigarette smoke supposedly KILLS you. I have a two year old who hits a button on his Baby Tad (leap frog) that makes the same noise over and over and over and over....I felt really sorry for the 16ish kid sitting with them. He gave me a look as if to say "I wasn't allowed to tap my fingers or walk too loud, but mom and dad will let me shoot heroin cuz it's not "annoying"." I understand the theater and the churches and mosques and stuff. That would be annoying to people with a low tolerance for that kind of stuff. Personally I can't stand it in a theater. But you used to be able to smoke in movie theaters also....

Yes, but we have rules for the use of cars. You can't drive your car wherever you want. Likewise, you shouldn't use your phone just anywhere and anytime you want. They shouldn't have to be banned. People should be able to control themselves.

Pornstarrunner:

I feel for ya. My wife and I were in a restaurant the other night and sat in the smoking section. After the meal I was about to light up and noticed a family of six near us. I noticed they weren't smoking. I asked them if they minded if I smoked and they said "if it isn't too much trouble for me, they would prefer I wouldn't." I asked them, in a non-fight provoking way as I could, why they sat in the smoking area. They replied it was the only table large enough to seat a six person family. I replied "good point" and did not light up. The other two tables near them put out their cigs after hearing this and didn't light up until they left.

Point: Not all smokers are bad, some of us prefer to kill just ourselves, not everyone around us. If my smoking upsets or offends you, I don't smoke around you. This policy applies to my house too. If I have a guest over, I don't smoke if they don't. Doesn't phase me in the least to walk out onto the deck outside to satisfy my urge for a cold, soothing Dr. Pep... errr, light up.

2003-01-31 12:35:13 AM
Apparently, non smokers who sit in the smoking section are not bothered by the smoke or are not too bright. I hate cigarette smoke and if a restaruant permits smoking (with one or two exceptions of very large places with separate rooms and good ventilation) I just don't go there. Fortunately, I live in an area where smoke free restraurants are fairly common.
You would have to pay me a nice sum of money to sit in a smoking area, let alone try to eat in one.

Yea, its still there. Starting to look a little run down though.

For all those becrying the good of cell phones, try riding public transportation. Thrill to hearing everyones annoying cell ring tones. Listen to their one-sided conversations as the whole farking bus/train can hear it. Gasp as they wonder why you have a sudden urge to implant that phone in their annoying rectum.

Before anyone starts a counter rant, notice I don't want them banned, but like driving, a course in ettique and respect should be standard. Else, those like me who are sick of it may feel that the punishment is worth the crime and get one anyway, tweek the range, and send a frequency to give you a feedback that'll put a permanent ringtone in yer ears.

2003-01-31 02:44:08 AM
The Thames would be awash with blood if they extended cell coverage to the London Underground. Apparently there was an idea floated that they could put repeaters in the stations so you could get coverage down there. Sunk like a lead balloon. Mind you, there were also plans by a drink company to install devices in various tube stations that made the smell of their drink the prevalent smell (for any that care, the Underground doesn't smell bad) right about the time that Scotland Yard and MI5 were arresting North Africans for terrorism apparently aimed at the Underground.

It's only cheaper in comparison to you backwards bastards who can't maintain an infrustructure. My phone bill is less than 1% of My income. What is your's like? My cell phone is "soooo" two years ago? My phone sends video, does yours? Who do you think invents all this crap? People who spend 5 hours a day on their knees praying for the death of rival religions? PISS FREAK! I'll be back at this thread at 11;00 am EST(yeah, that's right YOU operate on MY time schedule, if you're finished beating your wife by then). If only you had oil? Hey, if only you could use female moustaches as power, you would rule the world.

Personally, I believe all cell phones should have only the vibration 'ring tone', and all cell phone owners should be required to talk quietly.

That's how I have my cell phone, and how I talk, and it works just fine for me.

Sadly some people don't understand that in lesser developed nations almost everyone has a cell phone since they rapidly became cheaper than laying land lines.

How cool would it be to set a bunch of these jamming devices on, say, Wall Street?

2003-01-31 01:50:51 PM
Cineplex snuck in one of those jammers -- Fire inspector discovered it also wiped out their radios. Offered to pull the occupancy permit & create 1400 empty seats at the 8pm show.
Ooops.

The ragheads must have been tipped off about my diabolical plot to use remote-operated drone planes to carpetbomb Mecca with bacon bits and Jimmy Dean breakfast links during the most hectic period of Ramadan. CURSES! FOILED AGAIN!

This might sound a little stupid. Ok. ALOT stupid. But, wouldn't it be fun to "crop dust" them with bacon grease?
