The Dutch MP also called Koran a 'fascist book' and said it should be banned.

I can't decide if that's cognitive dissonance or irony.

There is no war between Christianity and Islam. There is a battle between rational people and religious crazies, and there are many Muslims on the side against the crazies.

Bullshiat like this movie doesn't help. It makes things for the Muslims trying to clean house on the inside that much harder.

Wrong. He didn't even make the top ten list over the last 20 elections. Only the thirteenth widest popular margin in the last 20 elections.

2009-02-24 09:35:14 AM
My recollection said he was voted for by more Americans, the widest popular margin. The facts say something different. But more *people* voted for him than anyone in history, partly cause there's just more people now. But still, a close 2nd to Mr. Morning in America.

pcd.dreamhosters.com

Not sure where 13th comes from. Were there a bunch of landslides in the 1840s? Thought those were typically 3 way, 4 way splits.

That is misleading though and you know it. Here is a breakdown of the actual percentage of votes garnered in each of the last 20 elections and the difference. I think you will agree that this is a far more accurate picture of popular margin.

1 Roosevelt Landon 60.80 36.54 24.26
2 Nixon McGovern 60.67 37.52 23.15
3 Johnson Goldwater 61.05 38.47 22.58
4 Regan Mondail 58.87 40.56 18.31
5 Roosevelt Hoover 57.41 39.65 17.76
6 Eisenhower Stevenson 57.37 41.97 15.40
7 Eisenhower Stevenson 55.18 41.33 13.85
8 Roosevelt Willike 54.74 44.78 9.96
9 Regan Carter 50.75 41.01 9.74
10 Clinton Dole 49.23 40.72 8.51
11 Bush Dukakis 53.37 45.65 7.72
12 Roosevelt Dewey 53.39 45.89 7.50
13 Obama McCain 52.87 45.62 7.25
14 Clinton Bush 43.01 37.45 5.56
15 Truman Dewey 49.55 45.07 4.48
16 Bush Kerry 50.73 48.27 2.46
17 Carter Ford 50.08 48.02 2.06
18 Nixon Humphry 43.42 42.72 0.70
19 Kennedy Nixon 49.72 49.55 0.17
20 Bush Gore 47.87 48.38 (0.51)

Ugh, that came out a proper mess. In case you cannot figure it our the order is Winner, Loser, Winner percentage of total votes, loser percentage of total votes and the difference between them.

Actually even by your definition he did not win "by the widest popular margin in history", he was second. He did get more votes than any winner in history, but that happens nearly every time anyhow.

Right, why would you count people who don't vote? There are way to many factors that influence voter turnout to make those numbers an accurate gauge of anything. If you go by your numbers then last election McCain got 19.75% of the popular vote, that number looks pretty good on your list.

Not sure I see the point, other than you want to downplay Obama.

I am not trying to downplay or build up anyone, but the dishonesty of your statement bothers me. Obama did not win by a historical margin anymore than GWB had a mandate from the people in 2000 and 2004.

And honestly, what is it with you people that anyone who breaks down a dishonest stat about Obama must be a GWB cheerleader? No, I was not marching in the streets with a banner saying George was a minority pres in 2000, but I did call out people like you who tried to turn a win into something bigger than it was.

Isn't it enough that he won? Why do you feel the need to exaggerate it?

By my numbers in the last 47 elections (going back to 1824) Obama has the 26th highest margin and Bush holds the 37th and 44th spots. Oh yes, I'm such a partisan hack, I don't know how I can sleep at night.

To get on topic and not quibble about goddamn stupid farking voting shiat and tiny details that meant nothing at all in the scheme of things: Thank you for posting that.

Honestly, you people want to argue about voting? Okay. You do that, I guess it's easier than to think about anything more compelling.

The movie calls for destroying Islam, you can't. Look what happened to Christianity when the Romans tried it; it just got stronger. The change has to come from within the religion itself just as the Catholics were made to no longer destroy everything they saw fit. Hopefully it will be soon, but I doubt it.

Islam was once the peak of knowledge and learning. It should focus on that again instead of acting like retarded monkeys fighting over the last scraps of food.

Bah. This whole thing pisses me off. Religion is a good thing when used properly, just like any tool.

Tell me, muslims (christians, whatever), if your god does not change, then why the hell has your religion? If your answer is people, then what are you really worshiping?

Bah.

The movie calls for destroying Islam, you can't. Look what happened to Christianity when the Romans tried it; it just got stronger.

Hell, for that matter look what happened to Islam when Christianity tried to destroy it.

The only way for Islam to get out of the mess it currently finds itself in is for the moderates and the learned to take it back. That cannot happen as long as most of the population of Islamic nations are kept in poverty while a few sheiks, kings and religious leaders keep the vast majority of the money.

As long as the poor are kept ignorant and angry Islam will continue to be used for violence and subjugation.

I would love to see a day where people of all faiths can share scientific, philosophic, and theological ideas and opinions without having to resort to violence. A world where diverse ideas are not tolerated, the are celebrated.

WhoGAS:

I am not sure that the retarded monkey minority is quite as small as you think it is. The bigger problem is that they are ignorant, well armed and have nothing to lose.

FTA:
The Dutch MP also called Koran a 'fascist book' and said it should be banned.

This was only in response to calls for HIM and the movie to be banned. Hate speech in the Koran is far worse than he's presented.

Letting him speak in parliament is somewhat akin to allowing Rush Limbaugh for a special senate session. Disallowing speech for a discussion confronting hard topics because one asshole threatened to have 10,000 Islamic protesters is pathetic and a spit in the eye to free speech.

Like it or not, you need to pay attention because it is coming our way. There was an article within the last week about a former FBI agent warning of Islamic incursion on US culture and laws. The comments thread basically 'laughed him off the stage'. Ignore at your own risk.
