I hate to fill up a thread with praise for submitter, but that was awesome.

If Daddy was still alive he probably would just be another guy near the top. Instead I see the #3 reach as far up as New Hampshire.

Excellent headline.

I dunno, Dale Sr. handled the right turns just fine two weeks before at the Rolex 24 in that Corvette...

2009-02-23 06:31:50 PM
Not counting the number of right turns Sr caused other drivers to unwillingly take

I wish this "sport" would make a right turn.

+1 Internets to youse!

Also - NASCAR needs to die. Bring back ASCAR. Bring back the Trans-American. Something that makes me a fan of American racing.

Until then - there's a reason I watch GT.

It's what NASCAR used to be.

Very nice, submitter.

/But a top-shelf major league starter makes about four grand a pitch.

Rednecks Turning Left. I never watched NASCAR much, until yesterday, I got a full 1080p set. It is pretty fun in HD. You can see the tire beads and pubic hair on the track.
I have no idea why I just said that....

/Still a bigger F1 fan.

It's fun to go up to them and say "you know that he isn't going to win this week, right?".

I recall Dale Sr., Elliot, and Martin taking some laps in SCCA cars and running times commensurate with the road course boys.

But who am I to kill old hatreds.

If F1 was HD, I'd be so close to heaven the difference wouldn't matter.

When Dale Sr. wrecked I worked at a place with a lot of racing fans. I never cared about racing one way or another. The next day almost everyone was walking around like their dad just died. There was a Coke machine right in the middle of the lobby with a life sized picture of Dale Sr. on the front. I couldn't help but giggle when I saw that less than 24 hrs after the wreck someone had taken a black magic marker and drew two giant X's over his eyes.

/wasn't me!

I love sport/not a sport debates! Let the games begin!

RocketRod: Sr. made history.
Jr. makes excuses.

Amen.

Earnhardt Sr. was one of the best Cup drivers to ever zip up the Nomex. I was a huge fan growing up- my father raced against him more than once in the early 70s in SCCA, so the black #3 was part of family folklore. It's doubtful that a 7-time champion will ever be crowned again, though Jimmie Johnson may get close. He has the right mentality for it.

Jr. is overrated and underskilled. He's had every advantage coming through the ranks- particularly as far as R&D are concerned- but hasn't done much of anything with it. If he wasn't an Earnhardt, he'd be an also-ran at best. Drivers with 20ish wins grow on trees in NASCAR.

If by "best drivers" you mean "most notorious dickheads" then I agree. Causing the guy in front of you to spin out, then zooming by and waiting for everyone else to crash should not make you a hero of racing.
