Mmmmmmmmmessage for you Sir...!

2009-02-21 07:43:01 PM
StoneColdAtheist To be perfectly pedantic, if the brother doing the killing stabbed the victim with the bolt I could agree with you. The killer shot the victim, using a projectile weapon, namely, a crossbow. The man was killed with a crossbow

you can be pedantic next time, though.

2009-02-21 07:54:39 PM
No sir! TFA states that the killer shot the victim with a crossbow, therefore it was the bolt that killed the victim dead. It would have been the crossbow that killed him had the perp struck him with the device itself.

/was it a European Swift or an African Swift? ;)

I thought a quarrel was the number of people required to have an argument.

Oye stop rubbing each other's pedantae, its disgusting.

/killed by crossbow sounds better
//killed by bumper or car?
///killed by common cold due to useless immune system or aids?

StoneColdAtheist, well I suppose it is best that Subby is not employed by an Australian newspaper.

Considering the force with which the bolt struck the victim, the murder was achieved in precisely this fashion because of the cross-bow, not because of the bolt.

Really, this amounts to roughly fark-all, but I guess that's why we're here. That, and the noble pursuit of Fun-Bags.

Those do look like fun, Silicon is fine for the right kind of photo, and this happens to be the right kind of photo

This headline would have been just as good with the key words reversed.

"Man killed with quarrel after crossbow."

It's tits like this that were the reason Amazon women allegedly removed the right one so it wouldn't get in the way of their archery.

Hmm... From teh wiki:
amazon was given a naive etymology as from a- (privative) + mazos, "without breast", connected with an etiological tradition that Amazons had their right breast cut off or burnt out, so they would be able to use a bow more freely and throw spears without the physical limitation and obstruction[2]; there is no indication of such a practice in works of art, in which the Amazons are always represented with both breasts, although the right is frequently covered.

Maybe if you see it for the first time, every time. I've seen it twice, and it's old.

I remember reading about this town in England that still has this arcane law on the books that says it is legal to kill someone with a crossbow, provided it happens within city limits and is at night.

That's what I get for playing Trivial Pursuit...
one of the questions in the original version asks something like "What would a woman with the condition amazia (have, suffer from)?
...don't remember exact wording for the question, but the answer was that she'd be lacking one breast.

Amazia is indeed the absence of the mammary gland, but the nipple and aureola are still there. So the game isn't wrong.

So are you saying that Amazon women really lopped of their breasts or that it was myth only--the quoted passage from Wiki points out that it might be myth. Did you read it? So, which of the two is the basic tenth grade knowledge to which you refer in your catty little comment?

clipperbox: Was it a fourteenth century Hungarian cross-bow, that killed a king, and changed the history of Europe?

I don't know about a crossbow changing history, but you might be thinking of King Harold II of England, who died of an arrow to the head in the Battle of Hastings in southern England on 14 October 1066. Harold was the last Anglo-Saxon King of England. The winning King was William the Conqueror, of Normandy, who also happened to be Harold's cousin.

Good lord, that's a boatload of fail right there...
