No, but I just started this kick ass jujitsu class. In fact my first class was yesterday, and my sinse told me about the Mate-leao. I know I would've used it on this burglar.

Ummm...judo has no strikes in it. There are plenty of holds, so I am guessing that's where the judo came in, but if you strike in judo, you are really doing jujutsu.

Well, technically there are strikes in judo, classified as Atemi Waza. Strikes are listed in the Kodokan under that designation. Strikes are also a part of the Nage No Kata, the formalized "ritual" demonstration of judo techniques. One of the requirements of Black Belt, in fact.

Atemi waza as a waza in-and-of-itself is not recognized by the Kodokan as an official Judo waza. Some schools include it regardless. Nage No Kata does contain strike moves, now that I recall, so I'll withdraw my comment. I'll amend it and say that judoka are not effective strikers until they start putting dans on their belt (pun intended). We spent a lot of time on strike techniques in Jujustu, but not in judo. Brown belt, so yeah, I should shut up :)

There are no strikes in shot him in the back of the head. There are strikes in certain forms of pistol-whip him in the back of the head, although I don't think it's officially recognized even though it's taught.

If anything, yoga just tightens up your core and makes you an even more appealing target for a gang rape.

I mean, you could bring a fat friend... maybe some of the low-level gang members will be assigned to her, but all of the hard-core thugs will be on your yoga-toned ass.

When i was about 10, I took wado-ryu for several years. Once the last living student of the founder of wado-ryu was in the states, and he was stopping at a dojo about 50 miles from us. We show up to meet him, he was like 4'11 but a complete badass. He used everyone's weight against them, it was really impressive to watch this guy take someone down with (practically) a flick of the wrist.

Atemi waza as a waza in-and-of-itself is not recognized by the Kodokan as an official Judo waza.

Oh? So why is it in Kodokan Judo:

CHAPTER XIII EXPLANATION OF THE FORMS OF SELF DEFENCE page 192

DORI
1. Ryote-dori (Both Hands Seizure) 194
2. Tsukikake or Tsukkake (Stomach Punch) 195
3. Suri-age (Thrust at the Forehead) 196
4. Yoko-uchi (Blow at the Temple) 197
5. Ushiro-dori (Shoulder Seizure from Behind) 197
6. Tsukikomi or Tsukkomi (Dagger Thrust at the Stomach) 198
7. Kiri-komi (Direct Down Cut at the Head with a Dagger) 199
8. Yoko-tsuki (Side Thrust or Strike with a Dagger) 199

Kodokan Judo is the Bible of judo. Striking techniques are an official part of the curriculum.

As a technique allowed in competitive, SPORT judo, no. As a technique in self defense judo, yes.

There is a big reason why. Lower hara. Easier Kuzushi and Tsukuri for a shorter person against a taller person for most throws.

/but he's the one with the black belt (2nd dan)

The rest of the reason. Kake.

Being 6'4 puts you are a bit of a disadvantage in judo. Got to get your hara under the ukes hara.

FarkinHostile: Oh? So why is it in Kodokan Judo:

The Kodokan does not list it on their website in the list of Judo waza (^).

Yeah... I hear you. A lot of people think sashimi is the best way to take down a larger opponent, but I believe chirashi is a better way to go.

Sometimes, when I'm fighting gangmembers in L.A. to prove my martial arts supremacy, I begin with a modest Temaki stance, but when they start pulling out the weapons, I up the intensity and switch to a Gunkan Nigiri.

I HATED working with tall dudes, because you really had to throw properly. I used to practice against this big scary dude just so I could not suck as much. One of my senseis was able to basically not budge until you did the move properly (and was 6'3", I am 5'7"). It was like trying to throw a brick wall.

Yes, I discovered height is not an advantage, especially if the opposing side has a greater skill level than you. With people my skill level (just above nothing), I can at least use my weight to more or less dictate the rondori(I'm sure I misspelled that). Not true with someone that has the technique to overcome that. Also, in rereading my Boobies, my typing/grammar skills seem to have disappeared.

The only advantage height gives you in a real fight is the ability to (theoreticaly) keep your opponent from closing for a grapple.
