Oh no. They might chew the leaf for 3 hours and get the buzz equivalent to a cup of coffee.

Guess the government is just afraid the Black Hawks might get shot down.

Please everyone, don't mention the other legal stuff we use the cops don't know about. Loose lips sink ships, men.

Did anyone else notice that they had less than 200 kilograms? That sounds like enforcement of import taxes to me.

From what I've read about qat, describing it as a 'narcotic' is way off the mark.

/it's a stimulant!
//never tried it, seems intriguing

Tried it. Boring.

Stick to strong coffee or decongestants. Similar buzz, less hassle.

That bothered me too -- it seems like "narcotics" is used by law enforcement and the media interchangeably with "drugs", which is really inaccurate. Kind of like how "machine gun" is used to describe Uzis and AK's.

Yes, but there's always the allure of doing something "illegal".
I swear if they made laundry detergent illegal people would try lines of it.

OMG WTF. I read about qat first in national Geographic in the late 1990s. The article said it has no potential as a narcotic and nobody can be addicted to it. The chewing of qat is entirely cultural, according to that article, and even a bit of a mystery to westerners who can never discern what is good and bad qat. It made for quite an interesting article on culture and daily rituals, actually.

Either National Geographic was wrong, or this racist BS war on terror is racist BS.

If it's effect is less than strong coffee or decongestants then why go to the trouble of bringing it in?

It would seem to me that the folks doing this are not very smart. You have a legal drug in caffeine that has greater effect than your illegal drug yet you are going to the trouble and risk to import it.
