Good luck everyone!!
2003-01-29 06:06:08 PM
Good trade.
2003-01-29 06:06:51 PM
I think a toy gun drive is pretty cool. lots more squirt guns for everyone.

I can see why they city wants to try this. Their cops are pretty quick to shoot first, ask questions later. Gunning down a kid with a toy gun that LOOKS like a real gun is a real bummer.
2003-01-29 06:07:40 PM
I had toy guns as a kid and have yet to kill anyone.
Maybe my aim is off.
2003-01-29 06:07:51 PM
Remember kids, you're not allowed to buy a toy that looks like an uzi, but you can get the real thing
2003-01-29 06:09:00 PM
Why don't these ass rags go to Somalia and get the fvck out of my country.
2003-01-29 06:09:03 PM
I think they actually did that a few years ago Ralph.
2003-01-29 06:09:41 PM
I'm proud to be a Libertarian. :)
2003-01-29 06:10:01 PM
What do a bunch a wealthy white guys care if some poor inner city kids learn to shoot one another.
2003-01-29 06:10:48 PM
Anyone remember when they had to change the original Nintendo controller from grey to bright orange because some asshat cop shot a kid who was playing with one? What kind of moron thinks a nintendo gun looks remotely like a real one?
I think they should ban the real guns from the cops before they ban the play ones from the kids.
2003-01-29 06:10:55 PM
did i miss something? why is the window labled march 2003?
2003-01-29 06:11:38 PM
I think they should ban toy vaccuums because they create the illusion that domesticity is "fun."
2003-01-29 06:11:39 PM
Ya know how people will pick up things in the supermarket and decide later they don't want something? You know how it is. You find a can of RAID mixed in with the whipped cream. I was walking down a row one time and saw a gun magazine in with the kids books. Kind of an amusing non-sequiter. Well, I guess you had to be there.

I'm in Metairie and about to head down to Burbon fer dinner. Anybody wanna join me?
2003-01-29 06:12:22 PM

The cops in NY have gunned down a number of younger people caring real gun look-alikes.

that said, they've also gunned down a bunch of people with other things resembling real live guns, like:

1) wallet

2) empty hand

3) hand in pocket

4) screwdriver

and so on.
2003-01-29 06:12:51 PM
They're right.
2003-01-29 06:13:57 PM
I'll join you in dinner for some burbon... oh wait... you meant IN burbon...
2003-01-29 06:14:24 PM
Funny Note: In Texas, its common for most rural kids to own real guns at a very young age. My Friend got one at age 8. For her birthday.

How scary is that?
2003-01-29 06:14:45 PM
I read that as "librarian" several times... it's really long past time to go home...
2003-01-29 06:15:38 PM
It's probably not just the cops, either. John Q. Public, walking on a dimly-lit street faced by somebody holding a realistic toy, may have difficulty knowing whether or not it's real (since, despite legislation against the real ones, NYC criminals /do/ have access to real firearms).
2003-01-29 06:15:41 PM

I would think like a handle like that you would have subgenii trying to kill you constantly.
2003-01-29 06:16:24 PM
If i went on a shooting rampage, I would paint all my toy guns blaze orange. I would be unstoppable as the cops would think I'm holding a toy gun.
2003-01-29 06:16:43 PM
Thats the way I feel about groin kneeing, its a my God given right.
2003-01-29 06:17:05 PM
I would paint all my toy guns blaze orange
should be:
I would paint all my REAL guns blaze orange
2003-01-29 06:17:30 PM

Why would they? I'm one myself...

Praise Bob!
2003-01-29 06:17:45 PM
I have no idea how many kids get capped by other regular armed citizens mistaking their toy gun for the real thing.
2003-01-29 06:17:53 PM
I was looking for Nerf Guns this Chirstmas. Couldn't find anything. I blame politicians.
2003-01-29 06:18:57 PM
ahaha good stuff i love libertarians .. err wait I am one. I guess im guilty of narcism.
2003-01-29 06:19:18 PM

because it is the duty of every subgenii to attempt to murder Bob Dobbs at every opportunity. He commands us to do this.
2003-01-29 06:19:56 PM
Go libertarians!
2003-01-29 06:20:53 PM
And maybe the ones pushing the ban might argue either that (a) realistic toy guns may encourage children to play with REAL guns (not that the brats should have access to your Glock semiauto...) or that (b) it all encourages violence. *shrug* If so, they should probably present rigorous studies supporting their arguments.

How scary is that?

in texas young single women need protection.....;)
2003-01-29 06:22:01 PM
Stupid people who rob your childhood and make you angry encourage violence.
2003-01-29 06:22:32 PM
JrBobDobbs: Well, I am certain we can find some burbon someplace on Burbon street. Or a hand grenade.
2003-01-29 06:22:36 PM
Toys 'R Us doesn't carry any cap guns. They are afraid I might shoot my eye out.
2003-01-29 06:23:26 PM

If she was trained how to properly handle it. Used it only with adult supervision till she was old enough to use it by herself. Then I would say "Not very scary."

But hey that's just me. I started off early as well.
2003-01-29 06:23:30 PM
When did squirt guns start looking anything like real guns? Nothing I ever played with as a kid ever did. They looked more like iMacs.
2003-01-29 06:23:44 PM

2003-01-29 06:24:56 PM
Antimatter - Sounds about right. I got my first rifle when I was seven or eight. Use to spend Sunday afternoons reloading bullets for my dad, too. :)
2003-01-29 06:25:02 PM
I doubt this has an "anti-gun" or "anti-violence" spin to the legislation, as the city council is fine with toy guns that look like something else.

I think it has most to do with protecting their police from more law suits and embarrasment.
2003-01-29 06:25:13 PM
Here's an idea: Paint your real guns bright orange and see who has the last laugh.
2003-01-29 06:25:32 PM
The Dollar Store sells cap guns. They're bright orange...I guess to match the cartidges.
2003-01-29 06:25:36 PM
MsPentyuth -- In, hm, probably the early 80s, I had a (Larami?) automatic watergun that rather strongly resembled an Uzi machine pistol, complete with sights. That sort of design may have become less acceptable since then.
2003-01-29 06:25:47 PM
If toy guns cause teenage violence in boys, do toy baby dolls promote teenage pregnancy in girls?

Discuss. No, seriously.
2003-01-29 06:27:05 PM
Next thing you know they'll have pipes that you can blow bubbles from!
2003-01-29 06:27:17 PM
The Libertarians are, by far, the coolest political party in this country.
2003-01-29 06:28:48 PM
Impaler: That's what I get for skipping half of the posts before I post, I make myself look dumb. Anyways.
2003-01-29 06:28:56 PM
oh wait. It is legislation that has the word "gun" in it

time to circle the wagons and start bringing up anecdotes about how safe guns are.

"I got my first gun....."

"It's a lack of training and respect....."

ok , ok, fine, I believe it all. And it isn't relevant. How's that ?
2003-01-29 06:29:07 PM
I don't own a gun. But I have no problem with responsibile people owning them. Toy guns don't kill people. Assholes kill people.
2003-01-29 06:30:22 PM
When toy guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have toy guns. Or something else equally nonsensical.

Good ol' NY cops and their shoot first, ask questions later.
2003-01-29 06:32:18 PM
But, aren't guns supposed to be evil? If we don't demonize these guns now while our kids are young and impressionable we'll never be able to sue the gun manufactures into submission with widespread public support later.

I think I'm going to cry, can someone please send an emotional trauma technician?
