(ABC)   Remember when Obama said "that if Congress passes our plan, this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off". Well, not so much...they will probably have more layoffs. Change you can believe in   (blogs.abcnews.com) divider line 243

Owens supports the stimulus plan, but said it would take some time to have an impact on his industry and "is a little light on the heavy construction."

Take some time ? F*ck it then, I want immediate satisfaction or else we can just forget the whole thing and just see what happens.

I find it hard to believe that Obama would make that kind of specific statement without first running it by the CEO. This sounds sketchy to me.

Subby "accidentally" omitted a very important part of the quote^:

"Today, the chairman and CEO of Caterpillar said that if the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan passes, his company would be able to rehire some of those employees."

In other words Owens made the statement that you just attributed to Obama.

Later, Owens said: "we're going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again"

That's because the stimulus isn't going to magically go back in time six months and undo the ripple effects that are hitting Caterpillar now.

Dumbass.

What's truly amazing is that the very same people who predicted this horrible, horrible national nightmare are now here objectively and honestly showing us how they were right... despite the accidental omission of certain elements of the story.

truly inspiring.

Ah, I heard what Obama said and what he said was that if the bill passes an they [Caterpillar] get more business, perhaps they can hire some of the laid off employees back.

That's quite different than what is being said in the article.

2009-02-12 07:38:18 PM
If sales are down, hiring people when you have no work for them would be a waste of money, both theirs and the taxpayers.

So let me get this straight:

The President of Catapillar misspoke or lied about the reality of the company's situation. President Obama relayed that message to the public. The President of Catapillar then clarifies what he meant, or corrects himself; and Obama is supposed to take the hit?

Death in a fire would be more than you should ask for trolls.

But Obama told him to say those things, so it's all Obama's fault.

Please Obama's error was a simple human error. It gives him the opportunity to apologize again this week.

Simple errors, like not paying all your taxes for several years like Geithner or Rangel or Solis.

Simple errors like saying no pork in the stimulus.

Too bad I am a participant in this rather than a participant.

Yep and that meeting resulted in a trillion dollar rape of taxpayers. Oh wait that is the Obama 'Stimulate America Tour' Stimulus.

You know a piece of legislation sucks when they need the One to go on tour to sell it to union members.

Yeah, it sucks SO MUCH that it got past the feeble Republican filibuster. It sucks so much that it is supported by over 60% of the American people. it sucks so much that you are upping your heart meds.

Oh sorry, that last one is because the Republican party sucks.

You mean like the One and Pelosi and Reid do on a regular basis.

Truthfully, the economy is not great, but we are all (well all not elected to anything) pushing in our own way to make things better. If people keep saying things are terrible and this is a catastrophe, it will become one.

If people at work keep telling you that you look like crap soon you will feel like crap.

Why are they hiding the stimulus bill? Why is it not on the web as they promised. What crap do they have hidden in it they don't want us to see.

Do stuff is not spend one trillion dollars on crap like dog parks and doorbells retrofitting for government housing for the poor.

Do stuff is not throw good money after bad.

Do stuff is like, work, produce, and contribute to the GDP.

There are jobs, I see signs every day, but some people just don't want to work at MickeyD's or the car wash even temporarily. They want to suck at the government teat because that is what they feel entitled to, or because they have been their entire life.

clearly obama has given a self serving summary of how the bill will affect hiring, but it will create jobs. and on balance, obama has been very forthright about how this is a long term problem.
