Okay, I'm totally guilty of this. Everyone in my contact list has a different ringtone and my default is the Dr. Who theme. And I have to keep the ringer pretty loud so that I can hear my phone when it's buried in the bottom of my purse. I can only hope that my ringtones amuse more than annoy.

For my husband: Crazy by Seal
Anyone work-related: We have a specific soundbite in our commercials that I captured & recorded
My mother: Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult
My biker buddy: Dragula by Rob Zombie
My youngest brother: Marine Hymn (he was a Marine for 15 years)
My friend whom I've known since HS: 1985 by Bowling for Soup
And various other geeky friends have appropriately geeky tones, ranging from the Imperial March from Star Wars, Superman theme, Wonder Woman theme, X-Men cartoon theme, etc.

I only have two that I use. Le Regimont (The Ohio State script Ohio theme)as a general one, and Paralized(SP) by Finger Eleven for the GF.

They do not. The only person that ringtones amuse is the person who owns the phone. Everyone else hates them. Put it on vibrate.

ringback tones are much worse. I remember calling one a few years back and being completely perplexed as to what the hell was going on. Some carriers inform you that the music is going to be played, his didn't.

I have the gift of flatulence. I can control the exact timing, power, pitch, and odor of each fart. I use this abililty to punctuate conversations and the narrative in my thoughts. I can only hope that my farts amuse more than they annoy.

Actually, I'm pretty well used to everyone having a ringtone. I only find it annoying then said ringtone is blisteringly loud or a person has multiple different ringtones. So there's that.

FeedTheCollapse: ringback tones are much worse.

The person who thought that idea up should be shot.

The only time my phone actually rings is when it auto-switched off of vibrate while it was charging...and that is a bug with the damn Samsung phone.

Annoying? Oh, no, it's not annoying at all when a song that I already hear far to much off on every frakin' radio station in town is played at excessive volume through tinny cellphone speakers! I absolutely adore having another's bad musical taste inflicted upon me at random! I can only hope that someday the technology evolves to a level equal with car stereo speakers so that a vast throbbing bass line can vibrate an entire public transportation vehicle! Annoying! Psshaw! Can I see your phone for moment? Wow, that's really nice, I bet it cost a lot...(SMASH IT TO TINY SHARDS WITH A BALL-PEEN HAMMER)...there, thanks a lot, you have a good day now.

General ring tone: Old fashioned phone bell
1st Ex-wife: Beethoven's Fifth Symphony
2nd Ex-wife: Evil Woman, ELO
Son: Beautiful Boy, John Lennon

I have part of the "I'm on a boat" song that came out recently as my ringtone; specifically where T-Pain is singing about how he never thought he'd be on a boat. Suck it :)

My brother-in-law recorded himself saying "ring, ring, ring". It was funny the first time.

Other then that, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Sure some people have them turned up really loud, but its usually just for a few seconds. It's not like sitting next to a screaming baby on a long flight. Now that's something to get annoyed with. Stop your crying.

/the pussifacation of America strikes again
//default ring tone for everyone

TaVaMaN: It's not like sitting next to a screaming baby on a long flight. Now that's something to get annoyed with.

At least the crying baby is an involuntary and uncontrollable situation. A loud, obnoxious ring tone is just selfish.

You know what I hate more than ringtones ... the people who decide to have music play in your ear when you call them up. The first few times I ran into that I hung up on the person because I thought I'd gotten a wrong number and hit a computer that put me on hold instead. I don't want to listen to your crap-ass selection through my crap-ass phone speaker. It's annoying and a 1950s AM radio sounds better.

2009-02-12 12:22:03 PM
Ringtones I am used to, and MIDI versions of songs I don't mind. What I hate though is when the ringtone is an actual song snippet. Why would anyone want the actual song to play?

2009-02-12 12:33:12 PM
Vibrate only, kthxbai.

2009-02-12 12:34:06 PM
My 12 yr old daughter to me in front of my ex-wife

"Dad! Why do you have the most annoying ring tone for Mom's number???"

Kids are cute...

Ex-wives are not...

2009-02-12 12:34:42 PM
Girlfriend: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1
Everyone Else: Bixby Canyon Bridge

Good times.

When I was in the elevator some broads phone went off and the song by beyonce "all but no calves" knowles came on, "All the single ladies, all the singel ladies, all the single ladies!" I wanted to go chris brown on her!

/to soon?

TaVaMaN: My brother-in-law recorded himself saying "ring, ring, ring". It was funny the first time.

Had a co-worker who had his own voice with a fake Scottish accent saying "the phone's a-ringin', the phone's a-ringin', pick up please, pick up please".

Yeah, my phone uses a midi tune that is vaguely close to a ringing noise. If I ever went to the trouble to replace it, it'd probably be some oldschool gaming MIDI music or something.

2009-02-12 12:37:14 PM
My ring tone is the metal gear solid codec tone. If that annoys you then you need to relax

/hates overplaye shiatty radio songs as ring tones

2009-02-12 12:37:36 PM
My phone simply rings, but I'm ashamed to admit that, when the RickRoll was at its height of popularity, I almost considered putting it on my phone. Almost.

2009-02-12 12:37:38 PM
Ring tones are gay, plus they sound like total garbage out of those crappy speakers.

Now, a Mr. T voice saying "I pity da foo' that don't answer his phone" would be funny once or twice.

2009-02-12 12:37:54 PM
vibrate at work and other necessry times, otherwise... tone loc is the only way to go.

Who actually thinks CNN is a respectable source of news?

2009-02-12 12:39:00 PM
It's not really the ringtones that annoy me too much, it's the people that are aware that their phone is ringing, and take their sweet time to answer it as if they somehow think that everyone within earshot is saying, "whoa! that's a cool ringtone".

My next ringtone is going to be some home made splooshing noise and if anyone asks what it is, I'll tell them that it's the sound of me jamming someones phone up their ass, who took their sweet time to answer their phone while it played sonme stupid song.

2009-02-12 12:39:21 PM
Ringtones: The last gasp of a powerless person to express some form of control over their life.

It's a goddamn phone, not a karaoke machine. farkin assholes.

2009-02-12 12:39:23 PM
My ring for everything:
Beep beep beep.
...
Beep beep beep.

2009-02-12 12:39:35 PM
Mine plays the Bad Horse ringtone Dr. Horrible had. Before that, it was a classic phone ring. I've always been against musical ringtones but I couldn't resist.

2009-02-12 12:40:26 PM
Is it really that hard to have your phone on vibe?
Really -- You are *not* that important. And if you are, strap the f*****g phone to your belt, and TURN ON VIBE.

Every now and again, I think I want to change it to David Cross and his knock, knock, knock "answer the telephone."

Then I remember I hate other people's ring tones, and leave it as a regular ring that I keep on low, and rely mainly on vibrate.

2009-02-12 12:41:55 PM
Jack Bauer's ring from "24".

boop-boop-beeeep-boop

2009-02-12 12:42:21 PM
brigid_fitch: My mother in-law: Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult

FTFY.

\wouldn't work for my best friend, my best friend actually likes Godzilla.

2009-02-12 12:43:29 PM
I have a donkey braying sound effect as my incoming text message tone, and I've actually got several chuckles from other people in stores and stuff. It's a pretty aggressive-sounding donkey, too, and the added benefit is that it demonstrates my hardcoredness.

Regular calls are an old-timey telephone, and that's the way I likes it.

2009-02-12 12:44:21 PM
i have monty python snippets for my ringtones.... the bring out your dead skit always gets me strange looks...

2009-02-12 12:44:33 PM
I have different ringtones for different people, but due to my job requiring I be near-silent for decent stretches of time it's on vibrate almost 24/7.

I miss a lot of calls.

2009-02-12 12:44:40 PM
My phone makes a ringing noise.

There's one ringtone I REALLY REALLY want, though, but I only heard it once while I was walking around on campus, and I doubt my Motorola phone would even be able to use it if I could find it:

The Codec noise for Metal Gear Solid.

2009-02-12 12:45:13 PM
Mine's always on vibrate.

Always.

If for some reason it's not, or if it rings while it's charging, it's the Super Mario Bros. theme.

2009-02-12 12:45:20 PM
"If you use a ringtone, you're probably a Redneck"

2009-02-12 12:45:32 PM
My ringtone is the Ziltoid theme song by Devin Townsend if anyone knows it. I have my phone on vibrate unless I'm driving (Don't worry, my GPS has bluetooth handsfree, and I rarely get called). That scream in the beginning cracks me up every time.

2009-02-12 12:45:47 PM
I have three rings set up on my phone. The main one is the standard riiiiing, riiiiing.

For members of my family, it's the same ring, but shorter tones.

ring, ring, ring, [pause], ring, ring, ring.

For my wife, it's an old-fashioned bell-sounding ring.

I can't imagine any of those are all that annoying.

Also, whenever I hear "please enjoy the music while your party is reached," I hang up the phone. Doesn't matter if I'm making a work-related call or a personal call.

2009-02-12 12:47:00 PM
Mine plays 2815 A.D. from Wall-E. Nice instrumental, and anyone who gets what it's from likes it. Unintrusive for the most part. The rest of the time it's on vibrate, like it should be.

2009-02-12 12:47:04 PM

Jack Bauer's ring from "24".

boop-boop-beeeep-boop

That was my text message alert for a while.

2009-02-12 12:47:38 PM
I'm in agreement for the snippets of overplayed songs being used as ringtones being insanely annoying. The instrumental versions of certain songs I can deal with. (I remember a version of Coldplay's "Clocks" sounding really good as a ringtone.. back when MuchMusic had proper instrumental ringtones, not this snippet BS that's going on now.)

But really .... I want to have Green Hill Zone or the Super Mario Bros. theme as a default ringtone.

/but Telus is lame

2009-02-12 12:47:53 PM
Shoot all cellphones that don't have a normal ringtone immediatly. The world will be a better place. Trust me.

2009-02-12 12:48:07 PM
The Final Countdown

/that is all.

One of my good guy friends has that (He's a total Snake Fanboy) and it trips me up everytime. It's awesome. XD
